  • Will a standard SSD work in a Lenovo ThinkPad E470? Looking at upgrading.

  • I paid $221 for the MX500 1tb last deal.

Using it as my game drive.

    • Does it work well?

      • -1

Yea mate not too bad. Currently 50% capacity.

My OS drive is an 256gb Samsung 960 NVME. Now that's quick.

Not the best prices that these have been… but if they are currently the best prices for this product then it's still a good deal for those looking to buy right now

    I assume these are M2 sata ?

    • +2

      yes

  • 10TB when?

    • +1

Same, I'm waiting for 10tb to replace my 10tb HDD, its soooo slow

  • Wow $221 good price I think I can hold off for a better deal too.

  • Shopping Express Ebay has the 500Gb for around $6 cheaper. The 10% is applied in the checkout and use PENNY5 code to get the $126 price.

  • Prices for SSDs creeping closer to true affordability

    • +2

These are actually more expensive than the previous deals :P

      • Previous deals were the result of a very rare 25% off, unlikely to be repeated.

  • Do you guys think pcie will feel much faster to sata? Recently got a mobo with m.2 and thinking about going pcie.

    • Based on this https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/crucial-mx500-1tb-m-2-…, I would say its the same speed.

    • it depends on what you'd be doing, using the M.2 makes for a cleaner install e.g no cables, etc, question though is M.2 sata or PCIE, Crucial tend to drive prices down hence M.2 sata, they don't do a M.2 PCIE hence Samsung are keeping their prices high as there isn't much competition in the M.2 PCIE market yet.

real world speed differences eg booting up, load a game open or save a document ….doubt you'd notice much.

If you have a laptop with lots of RAM, hibernate/revive will be a lot quicker on a good NVME drive. 600MB/sec vs 2000MB/sec does make a difference when shunting the whole running state to/from SSD.

I have 32GB in my work laptop and a Samsung 960 Pro NVME M.2 system drive. When I pack up going to/from customer sites, I prefer to have the laptop hibernated at that time - really happy with how fast that goes.

  • Anyone know if these M.2 will go well with DS918+ as cache and have you encounter any problems?

  • Hey guys, I'm looking to add a SSD. I'm relatively new with computers and I was wondering if anyone knows whether I can install the M.2 SSD? My motherboard spec is https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-H97M-HD3-rev-10#sp

    Thanks a lot!

    • Not directly no you don’t have an M2 slot on the motherboard according to that page

If you get some sort of adapter you could maybe via pcie slot but I have no idea how that goes with being recognised as a boot device
