Logitech Squeezebox Duet - network audio player
Squeezebox Duet consists of a multi-room Squeezebox Controller & charging stand, and a Squeezebox Receiver.

The multi-room controller with 2.4-inch color display makes it easy to browse playlists, albums, artists, and more. Even search by name. Convenient scrollwheel, simple menus, and intuitive buttons make navigation a breeze.

Expert engineering and sophisticated audio rendering technology provide sound clarity to please even the most demanding audiophile.

Advanced 802.11g wireless technology eliminates the need to string wires everywhere just to listen to the music from your computer. And setting up an additional room is simple as pushing a button - even on secure networks.

Access millions of songs, thousands of Internet radio stations, and music service providers such as Pandora, Rhapsody and Slacker, without ever turning on your computer using SqueezeNetwork, the unique Internet service. Even your personal music collection can be stored online in an MP3tunes music locker and played through your Squeezebox.

Connect the Squeezebox Receiver to your stereo or powered speakers and create a musical oasis. Add additional Squeezebox Receivers and listen to a different song in each room, or synchronize them and hear the same music everywhere.

Least logitech is putting their eggs in more than one basket !

  • Does anybody have one of these or heard anything about them? I want to know if they go good when dealing with large music libraries. I was thinking about getting one from the logitech site the other day

    • +2

I don't have this but I have a Squeezebox Boom, and it's AWESOME!
The only downside is you have to have your desktop on all the time if you want to stream music from it, otherwise if you're just using internet stations then you can connect it direct to the online server.
My desktop is on 24/7 anyway so doesn't bother me at all.

I want one of these to compliment my living room setup, but I don't want the remote which makes up most of the cost - they sell the receiver on its own in the US and UK but not here, I don't know why.

You can get a cheap app for Android called Squeeze Control and use that instead of the remote.

I might order the receiver on its own from o/seas now that we're above parity again.

And I have a music collection of approx 25GB, totalling somewhere around 3,000 to 5,000 songs, handles the library fine, you just need to scan for new music when you add new stuff.

      • Thanks. would you please tell me where can I get the solo receiver ?

I guess try searching google.co.uk for squeezebox receiver.
A UK one would be better than a US one as UK uses the same power as us, so you'd just need to get a powerpoint adapter or a new power cable for it.

Was $240 a few weeks ago from Logitech Shop with free shipping…

  • This unit is awesome!!!
    Bought one a year ago.
Works great as my networked music player playing my large music library from my NAS drive with over 100 gigs of music files.
The remote is like the iPod click wheel! love the screen display & it's extremely user friendly.
Going to grab another one for my mate.
Rather get one from HT knowing that the stock is from Aust.

    • 100 gigs of music files

      And all legal of course!!

250 CDs converted to FLAC will take up about 100 gigs of space. :)

I have a Duet and a Classic. Missed out on a similar special at HT last year so ended up buying the Duet for a little bit more from the usual suspects for Logitech stuff.

The best place to look for technical info is the user forums: forums.slimdevices.com but many people with large libraries do use Squeezeboxes.

The Duet has its quirks, not least of which the occasional unwillingness to connect to the library (but this can be a problem with all Squeezeboxes) and that the handset can take a long time to wake up if out of its cradle for a while. I wouldn't recommend a Squeezebox for people who like stuff that "just works", because you will end up needing the forums at some point.

  • I just hope they sell the solo player itself, 'cause I don't need the remote of duet. My iPhone app ipeng is much better.

    • Agreed. Ipeng is fantastic. Squeezebox boom is brilliant! Not sure about this one as I haven't looked into it but will look at expanding in the future.

  • Wait a few days and no doubt logitechshop will have these for $240 with free shipping again.

  • nice price, i have a squeezebox duet and its awesome when hooked up to a decent HT

for those that don't have an receiver and speakers then get the BOOM instead. I have both and they're both very good

    • I have both too and would agree. It totally changes how and when you listen to your music. Thoroughly recommend it. Also Ipeng is very cool. Get the squeezeplayer for your PC too, it's free. The ability to sync the same song between your PC, in the kitchen and in the lounge room all via either an Iphone app, or via the duet remote, is awesome.

Love this thing! As soon as the boom goes down in price I'll probably buy another.

  • I think when bargaincrypt sees this post, we might have a real bargain on our hands.

    • after we wait 10 hours at 1 bargain an hour.

      • Or not?

  • The SB Touch is a better buy. Logitech shop had a sale recently. Think it was $260 or 290 shipped. Supports higher-res too.

  • The price's just dropped. It's now $249.

OP, can you amend the title please?

They are getting very close to a sale. Free postage would do it for me.

  • How is this unit different or better than the WD TV Live Media streamer than can be bought for $99

    • you don't need to have a tv connected….

    1. connect iphone/itouch to a set of speakers
2a. play songs stored in your iphone/ipod
2b. run an app on your iphone/ipod, then you have thousands of internet radio station and music service providers.

as long as you have a iphone/ipod, or other similar smart phone.

  • I have a Sonos S5 and it's honestly the best gadget purchase I have ever made (and I buy lots of gadgets).

I come home, turn it on my iPhone (or iPad) and just let it play.

Unsure how this thing is, can it do Last.fm, Rhapsody, etc? If so go for it.

  • I purchased my first Squeezebox when they were designed by Slim Devices before Logitech bought them out. I've upgraded to newer models along the way and I've always been very happy with their products - they are awesome in terms of functionality and quality, and can easily handle huge music collections without any problems.
If you are not fussy about sound quality, alwayseric's comment may provide a cheap option, but if you want excellent quality sound, then convert your music CDs to FLAC and play them through a squeezebox connected to an amp/speakers. I highly recommend them.
