expired ING Direct Refer-A-Friend $40 Bonus for Opening a New Savings Maximiser
This was posted 2 years 3 months 16 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal
Mod — Please use this forum thread to discuss whether you have received the bonus.
A new ING Direct promotion has just commenced. It is similar to http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/29920. The Savings maximiser is a fee-free high interest online account with no minimum balance (currently 6.35% for the first 4 months and 5.00% thereafter)
edit: There might be a problem for existing customers without a savings maximiser account. They are eligible but there is nowhere to enter the promotion code. ING are investigating.
Only people who don't have an existing Savings Maximiser account are eligible for the opening bonus. Only existing members who have the offer (check your My Offers | Register section - it appears to be for existing Savings Maximiser account holders only) are eligible for the referral bonus. To get the bonus, the referral code needs to be entered at the bottom of step 4 of the application.
Opening a Savings Maximiser account can be done completely online (you need a phone number, TFN and an existing transaction account with any bank). To active your new account, a small transfer (say $1) is required from your nominated linked transaction account.
Be rewarded for referring your friends and family
Get $40 in bonus interest for every friend you refer (up to 5) who opens a Savings Maximiser and makes their first deposit by 14 April 2011. Plus, your friend will also receive $40 in bonus interest and enjoy our current great variable welcome rate offer. You need to refer your family and friends by 31 March 2011.
Terms and Conditions
Bonus interest (up to a maximum of $200) will be credited to your account by 30 April 2011. A tax liability may exist with the payment of the bonus interest. This offer is only applicable on the first Savings Maximiser that your friend(s) open (including joint accounts).

jacklynhydejr on 03/03/2011 - 10:57 ¶Where did you find this info on their website? Can you provide the direct link?

jacklynhydejr on 03/03/2011 - 12:37 ¶Yeah, I have a savings maximizer… just signed up for it though a few weeks ago to get that $40 sign up bonus, so maybe I'm too new a customer. Perhaps I'll give them a call.

crazyanand on 03/03/2011 - 11:58 ¶I can only find 'participating' and 'register' under 'My Offers' :-(

I wish they would look after their current customers. Consider Rabobank account after the bonus interest rates run out as they have higher interest rates on their savings accounts….its a pain in the a$$ to transfer money though. You have to enter like 8 different codes to do anything.

Another one to add to the list, Citibank
(doesn't require savings plans and has higher $maximum restriction)Citibank
Variable introductory rate, currently 6.40% p.a
6 months from the date of account opening
At the end of the 6 month offer period you will automatically receive the standard variable rate, currently 5.25% p.aIng
6.35% p.a. variable welcome rate
4 months from account opening
Revert to the Savings Maximiser standard variable rate applicable at the time, which is currently 5.00% p.a

no, it is a promotional code. the referrer is supposed to enter the email into the website and ing will send the referrer's promotional code to the email. however, in the last promo the email system appeared to be broken. but the bottom line is that all you need is a promotional code which you enter at the bottom of step 4 of the application. just contact one of the people offering referrals.

PLEASE help me out!
I'm in Step 2 of the application (Summary)
I have to hit Submit button and still there is no option to put the promo codeI guess it will come later? (i.e. step 4?)
Bit confused because it is a "Submit" button which seems end of the application process

Guys, I am seeing a submit button at step 2 as well. Just thinking out aloud, does it show only two steps if you link an ING Orange Everyday account to this as opposed to four steps if you link an account with another bank.
Can anyone who has linked it to their ING everyday account confirm that they see 4 steps?
Edit: No, changed the account to an external account, still see a submit at step 2. So the question now is, would there be two more steps after the submit button to enter the promotional code?
+1 votei just rang up ing and the terms and conditions are correctly described. if you are an existing member but do not have a savings maximiser account then you are eligible for the opening bonus.
they asked affected people to take a screen shot of the last page before actually submitting the application and send it to cc.faults@ingdirect.com.au so they can fix it. just mention you have a promotional code from a referral but no where to enter it. i also mentioned that people weren't receiving emails and they will look into it.
+3 votesOK Guys
Now I can confirm, this is for a brand new ING customer only
If you are an existing ING customer, you won't be eligible (Doesn't matter if you never had a Saving maximiser account)
i.e. if you are an exisitn customer, you will apply through the Online Banking (from my application)
And there is no Step 3/4 - it ends in Step2 (with the submit button)
If you follow the provided link and Lie about your status (i.e. you are NOT and ING customer) - then you will only have the promo code field in step 4
Not sure if this will work for an existing account holderPlease correct me if I'm wrong (hope I'm wrong!)
+1 votechaosmaster on 03/03/2011 - 13:21 ¶Ubank have a way better normal rate if you actually want to earn interest long term. 6% normal rate vs ING 5% and 6.51% if you deposit $200 each month. Couldn't refer my friends to a savings account with a lower rate for a measly $40.

Exactly. How can you possibly refer a genuine friend to a savings account that is so much worse in interest rate than other options. Unless your friend doesn't care about genuinely putting money in, and just wants the $40 like you.
Having said that, if anyone wants a referral, please feel free to contact me :)
chaosmaster on 04/03/2011 - 08:48 ¶Still looking like effort to setup account, then transfer money out etc. Maybe worth $40 to some people.

Anyone else who needs a referral can PM me too.

Jean-Baptiste on 03/03/2011 - 15:29 ¶Can somebody PLEASE explain to me how this works? If somebody gives me a referral link, I then sign up for an account and both of us get $40? And then I can refer other people using their email addresses and if they sign up I get an additional $40?
Or am I way off the mark here?
