ING Direct Refer-A-Friend $40 Bonus for Opening a New Savings Maximiser

560

Mod — Please use this forum thread to discuss whether you have received the bonus.

A new ING Direct promotion has just commenced. It is similar to http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/29920. The Savings maximiser is a fee-free high interest online account with no minimum balance (currently 6.35% for the first 4 months and 5.00% thereafter)

edit: There might be a problem for existing customers without a savings maximiser account. They are eligible but there is nowhere to enter the promotion code. ING are investigating.

Only people who don't have an existing Savings Maximiser account are eligible for the opening bonus. Only existing members who have the offer (check your My Offers | Register section - it appears to be for existing Savings Maximiser account holders only) are eligible for the referral bonus. To get the bonus, the referral code needs to be entered at the bottom of step 4 of the application.

Opening a Savings Maximiser account can be done completely online (you need a phone number, TFN and an existing transaction account with any bank). To active your new account, a small transfer (say $1) is required from your nominated linked transaction account.

Be rewarded for referring your friends and family

Get $40 in bonus interest for every friend you refer (up to 5) who opens a Savings Maximiser and makes their first deposit by 14 April 2011. Plus, your friend will also receive $40 in bonus interest and enjoy our current great variable welcome rate offer. You need to refer your family and friends by 31 March 2011.

Terms and Conditions

Bonus interest (up to a maximum of $200) will be credited to your account by 30 April 2011. A tax liability may exist with the payment of the bonus interest. This offer is only applicable on the first Savings Maximiser that your friend(s) open (including joint accounts).

  • Contact me if you need a referral code.

  • Where did you find this info on their website? Can you provide the direct link?

    • the promotion just commenced a day or two ago. i've already rung up and tried to get a direct campaigns.indirect.com.au link but they didn't know. i'll update the deal link once i get it.

      • cool. thanks!

      • it is a kosher promotion. i opened my maximiser account in the previous promotion (see deal post) and got the opening bonus without any hassles. also read the product information and make sure that you are eligible and the account suits your needs.

        • Nothing in my "my offers" section…

        • i don't know. maybe it is for existing savings maximiser account holders only? do you have a maximiser account?

        • Yeah, I have a savings maximizer… just signed up for it though a few weeks ago to get that $40 sign up bonus, so maybe I'm too new a customer. Perhaps I'll give them a call.

        • Ok. I'm a dope and only have an orange everyday account!

        • so the offer must be for existing savings maximiser account holders only. you are still eligible for the opening bonus, but if the offer doesn't appear under My Offers then you won't be able to refer people :(

  • I can't find referral link under My Offers- Register?

    • look under my offers | promotional | sm-refer-a-friend-march

      • I can only find 'participating' and 'register' under 'My Offers' :-(

        • if you don't have the offer under My offers | Register then you won't be able to refer people but you are still eligible for opening a savings maximiser account if you don't already have one. maybe it is for savings maximiser account holders only?

        • Just "register". That's how I did it.

  • I wish they would look after their current customers. Consider Rabobank account after the bonus interest rates run out as they have higher interest rates on their savings accounts….its a pain in the a$$ to transfer money though. You have to enter like 8 different codes to do anything.

    • imo, you can just shift from bank to bank when the introductory period expires. there are lots of offerings available nowadays.

  • Consider Virgin money and Ubank…

    • virgin money also have a $50 promotion going on at the moment but you need $1k spare.

    • Another one to add to the list, Citibank
(doesn't require savings plans and has higher $maximum restriction)

      Citibank
Variable introductory rate, currently 6.40% p.a
6 months from the date of account opening
At the end of the 6 month offer period you will automatically receive the standard variable rate, currently 5.25% p.a

      Ing
      6.35% p.a. variable welcome rate
      4 months from account opening
Revert to the Savings Maximiser standard variable rate applicable at the time, which is currently 5.00% p.a

$40? back in the days they gave out like $123 to just open an account!

    • Mind you, refer 5 people and this one totals up to $200 - not too bad i'd say.

Specially when the bonuses were actually $20 previously for making a purchase or a direct debit etc. IMHO this is better.

  • Thanks mattgal, I have contacted you for the code
    Cheers

  • I want to get a referral code. Is it just a email address?

    • Contact me if you need a referral code too. first 5 only. PM me.

    • I sent one to you earlier seecloud. did you get it ?

    • no, it is a promotional code. the referrer is supposed to enter the email into the website and ing will send the referrer's promotional code to the email. however, in the last promo the email system appeared to be broken. but the bottom line is that all you need is a promotional code which you enter at the bottom of step 4 of the application. just contact one of the people offering referrals.

  • PM me should you need referral

  • PLEASE help me out!

I'm in Step 2 of the application (Summary)
I have to hit Submit button and still there is no option to put the promo code

I guess it will come later? (i.e. step 4?)

Bit confused because it is a "Submit" button which seems end of the application process

    • Bappy, mattgals last comment above seems to indicate it will ask for it at step 4 - so i think all is fine.

      • Yeah I have seen that, but confused because its saying after I hit the submit button - the application will be completed (without step 4 or step 3?)

So just want to double check with anybody who successfully completed this application

        Thanks

    • you need to follow the link and steps in the email i sent you and enter in the special code.

    • Guys, I am seeing a submit button at step 2 as well. Just thinking out aloud, does it show only two steps if you link an ING Orange Everyday account to this as opposed to four steps if you link an account with another bank.

Can anyone who has linked it to their ING everyday account confirm that they see 4 steps?

Edit: No, changed the account to an external account, still see a submit at step 2. So the question now is, would there be two more steps after the submit button to enter the promotional code?

i just rang up ing and the terms and conditions are correctly described. if you are an existing member but do not have a savings maximiser account then you are eligible for the opening bonus.

they asked affected people to take a screen shot of the last page before actually submitting the application and send it to [email protected] so they can fix it. just mention you have a promotional code from a referral but no where to enter it. i also mentioned that people weren't receiving emails and they will look into it.

      • This isn't the first time. I thought they'd have fixed the problem before running this promotion again. The last time they had this promo, I sent a code to my friend twice (separate email addresses). Both times, she didn't receive the email. I gave up after that.

      • Thanks for clarifying that. If now only Bappy or someone else who has opened the account could follow this and see if they honour the promotion and report back here, that would be great.

    • i wonder if you can just say you are not an existing customer and fill you the application from there (as long as you don't have a savings maximiser account). otherwise you might need to wait for them to sort it out.

  • -1

Anyone else want a referral? I've got 20 to give out (due to many ING accounts within my family).

    • Can I have two pls? Just PM me. Thanks

      • -1

you need to pm me your email address so i can register it on ING site and then it will send you a special code and steps to follow. hurry 4 left.

        • he was asking me for two happy for you to take it away coolsteps

    OK Guys

Now I can confirm, this is for a brand new ING customer only

If you are an existing ING customer, you won't be eligible (Doesn't matter if you never had a Saving maximiser account)

i.e. if you are an exisitn customer, you will apply through the Online Banking (from my application)

And there is no Step 3/4 - it ends in Step2 (with the submit button)

If you follow the provided link and Lie about your status (i.e. you are NOT and ING customer) - then you will only have the promo code field in step 4
Not sure if this will work for an existing account holder

Please correct me if I'm wrong (hope I'm wrong!)

    • +2

Thanks for confirming this. I will cancel my application then and will wait for an appropriate time/offer to create this.

mattgal, you may have to update the description to state that is for new ING customers only.

    • +3

I just tried for it myself and indeed it stops at step 2 with no chance of a promotion code. I will ring them and enquire exactly who is eligible.

      • Thanks Mate, let us know what is the update
It would be gr8 if exisiting orange account holders are eligible

    • so if you have a orange everyday you are not eligible?

Ubank have a way better normal rate if you actually want to earn interest long term. 6% normal rate vs ING 5% and 6.51% if you deposit $200 each month. Couldn't refer my friends to a savings account with a lower rate for a measly $40.

    • Exactly. How can you possibly refer a genuine friend to a savings account that is so much worse in interest rate than other options. Unless your friend doesn't care about genuinely putting money in, and just wants the $40 like you.

Having said that, if anyone wants a referral, please feel free to contact me :)

    • +1

If your friends are referred to ING and put in 1 cent, they get $40, which I'm guessing is at least a few thousand% in interest. Hows the measly $40 looking now?

      • Still looking like effort to setup account, then transfer money out etc. Maybe worth $40 to some people.

  • anyone after a referral code please pm me.

  • Anyone else who needs a referral can PM me too.
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/2666/contact

  • I'm available for referrals :) send me a pm with your email address

  • I've got some referrals aswell, send me a PM.

  • I still have 2 referrals left. So, if any one wants to receive the email for opening the account, please let me know via http://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/40536/contact

    EDIT: None left.

I have 5 referrals available if anyone interested.

    Now 2 left

  • let me know if someone need a referral
    i still have heaps
    - 2 left
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/16581/contact

  • Please PM me your referral code if you want 40 bucks. I didn't just say that did I?

So what's the catch? If everyone joins and puts in 1c, they're going to go broke?

  • There are only 2 steps and no where to put in the code. Has anyone completed the application yet?

  • I have 9 referrals left if anyone wants one.
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/47017/contact

    • My g/f and I still have 8 referrals if anyone still keen.

      • 5 referrals for those still interested

  • I have 4 referrals left. Thanks :)
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/37379/contact

  • Can somebody PLEASE explain to me how this works? If somebody gives me a referral link, I then sign up for an account and both of us get $40? And then I can refer other people using their email addresses and if they sign up I get an additional $40?

Or am I way off the mark here?

    Thank you

    • I believe thats correct..up to a maximum of $200 though. And just make sure to make your first deposit by 14th April.

    • i suspect that you won't be able to make subsequent referrals. only people with the offer can make referrals.

      • So how did those people get the offer?

        • Just by already having a current Savings Maximizer account.

  • how do you know if the promo code is valid?

    • the referral code appears to be per member not per referral. i think they just pay out for any valid referral code. the payout for the referrers is capped.

      • +1

step 4 where you type in the promo code should have a validate button to say whether it's valid or not, otherwise u might find later you don't get the bonus 40

  • let me know if someone need a referral
Still have heaps i have my family referral code as well

    email me your email address
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/16581/contact

Does anyone know how long it will take the referral email to arrive? Is it instantly?

    • I referred my gf a while ago but she said she still hadn't received it.

      • Same situation here. My hubby referred me, but I didn't receive any email neither. However, he got an email from ING.

    • I still haven't received 2 which a user on here sent me 2 hours ago :(
      Just hoping it comes through.
