Yeah, this really annoys me. Get nothing for being a customer since Foxtel first became available. I'd cancel in a heartbeat if it wasn't for the wife wanting to watch a few regular shows.

      • Your situation is the exact reason they don't do anything for existing customers. Who is going to go through the hassle of cancelling their account only to re-sign up to get these offers?

LIES! we get a $3 price increase from this month!
over 10% increase for my basic package.

        what crap!

      • Yes same here. Wife wanted Foxtel for some of the "real life" and "lifestyle" type programs.. but looking at what we're paying: Netflix: $14, Stan $12, Foxtel $36 (about to become $39). Easy to see where we can save the most money.

Could your wife sign up with her credit card?

Decent deal if that’s all you want but Wouldn’t recommend signing up with Telstra Foxtel, have no bargaining power like you do with Foxtel direct

Depends who you talk to… I got Foxtel for free for 2 years and a free IQ3 when I re-contracted my Telstra internet account…

      • How did you manage to convince them to do that? I always ask but sometimes the people at the call centre say they have no power to help.

        • I wrote a complaint on their website and the contacted me and made an offer. I then negotiated with them until I got what I wanted.

    What is not included:
    • to watch Foxtel from Telstra in HD, you will need to pay $10 per month to upgrade to the HD subscription tier

2018 and still need to pay extra for HD wow. Also a $25 self install fee yeah no thanks.. this is why I will never buy foxtel.

I reckon Foxtel is gone within the decade unless they seriously change strategies.

They rely on apathy tax to make their money from a portion of their subscribers, whilst the savvy subscriber cancels when Foxtel tries to rip them off rec retail, only to be offered half reasonable pricing to be 'retained'.

If they simply offered competitive pricing from the get go and rewarded subscribers who stuck around (instead of penalising them), they'd save themselves a lot of work and money, and also have a massive subscriber base.

A poor business model that is probably haemorrhaging customers considering the uptake of Netflix and Amazon etc. Even the less tech savvy people out there are starting to see the light when they are slowly offered better internet speeds and look for alternatives.

        • Foxtel will be gone within 5 years, let alone a decade. Their installation and provision is something all the online streaming services don't have to pay for.

Foxtel Go is their "solution" but it is still quite poor.

The self install fee is a joke. No one should have to pay to plug in equipment that belongs to foxtel. I refused to pay it and they wiped the fee.

      • That's probably their way of trying to cover postage costs for the box??

  • Just went to do it, what the hell is a sim serial and a service number, and / or where do I find them?

  • if they were willing to do entertainment + sport for this package price i'd be on it…anyone had any luck convincing them to shift the movies/drama pack to sport?

EDIT - never mind, this is the same price through telstra direct: https://www.telstra.com.au/tv-movies-music/foxtel-from-telst…

  • Now that the NRL and AFL is about done for the year, not sure what you'd actually be paying for, sport wise.

    • Fox has a dedicated cricket channel now. But yes, I wouldn't look to sign up until closer to November (that way I can get all of the cricket season + all of next year's AFL season within the 12 month window).

    • Sport is practically the only money making service they still have. Doesn't help them they lost EPL (even tho Optus stuffed it)

Obviously Foxtel bigwigs are betting on the blokes calling up in March 2019 to add the Sports pack.

      • I do - I have it for 6 months on / 6 months off (foxtel now, that is)

  • I pay for Netflix, my mate pays for foxsports, another mate has Optus sport, we share details, foxtel is no longer needed :)

  • Got it in the end. Took forever, nearly an hour and a half of waiting, but the guy got it done. Waived the join up fee too, which is ridiculous anyway, but whatever.

Missus can tape and watch a bunch of movies that aren't on Netflix
The kiddo can watch Nickolodeon and the sort
And I can watch more episodes of The Simpsons than any 22 year old should

    Win win win.

    Cheers OP!

    • Handful of months later revisiting this deal to see if it's still up for a friend, we have close to 600 Simpsons eps taped.

I'm a man of my word.

  • so what happens after the 12months contract is up ?

Do they really move you onto the regular priced plans ? or are they willing to negotiate and keep it at the $20pm ?

  • Got my box today, gave me an IQ4 interestingly enough, not complaining

    • Did some work experience and apparently it's easier just to give out IQ4s. It costs too much to pay the contractors to change over the box in the future lol.

  • Had foxtel cable before. They want an extra 100 now to install the satellite. Like the idea of the $68 intro deal from foxtel for entertainment plus sport and includes install. Would like to switch to this plan after a month but cannot as this plan is foxtel by Telstra so a different company.
