Looks like this deal is back with a few changes!

No first month free, instead a once off 65% cashback for the first month which equates to $22.75.

Please ensure that your last click is via Cashrewards cashback link for the cashback.

Matching Optus on their recent offer I believe.

They are also offering a $40 plan for 40GB of data with 1000 International Minutes as well.

$5/day international roaming is one reason I stick to Vodafone!

  • $22.75 for the first month only, and then $35/month for the next 11 months? is it correct?
My Optus contract will expires next month, so I'm looking around for a new contract. Less than $30/month + >10 Gb data is perfect.

You pay $35 for the first month, but you will get a cashback of $22.75 (you're really paying $11.25 after cashback for the first month)

      • Thanks mate.

  • Any reason to go for this over Kogan or Lebara, figure if you're gonna be stuck with Vodafone may as well get a good deal, right?

    • +6

$5 roaming, which no others offer.

      • -1

KoganMobile does something similar, but I see your point if that's important to some people.

      • +3

$5 roaming for anyone that travels in unmatched by any other provider. Nothing comes close to it.

        • +1

Used it so many times in Japan. Having the use of your own number and bring able to take and make calls and messages is great.

        • It's $5 PER DAY you use data.

          "$5 Roaming
Take your eligible phone plan overseas with $5 Roaming. Use your mobile phone as a street directory, update your social media, and make calls back home using your data and talk allowance, all for an extra $5 a day.

You will be charged the $5 fee only on days you make or receive a call, send a text or use data overseas. The $5 fee will appear on your bill to be paid at the end of the billing period. If you go over data allowance, we’ll automatically add 1GB for $10."

love how they label it "Get 27GB bonus data per month" like anyone is joining up 3gb for $35 other then people with no knowledge, gb is the biggest scam among telcos to drive up plan prices, finally seeing a bit of a GB war happening & will only continue year after year, best option if you dont mind Optus wait for one of there phone plans that offers 100gb-200gb goes on sale to the point where you can sell the phone put that money back straight onto the bill & the remainder you pay over 2 years is around $30pm & you end up with a 100gb-200gb sim plan

You can also use the code: CHATRMT or HYSCA to get one off $25 for the first bill. But not sure if this is eligible for cash back, just signed up a $40 plan this morning

    • Does it work with cash back?

      • I don't get cash back yet, still wait

      • +1

        got ~$30 Cashback

        • You mean it got tracked as verification doesn't happen til 3 month later. So you may still not get it

    • Risky. If no cashback you end up with less than just using the cashback alone.

  • shit, i'm only a few months into my 30gb $50/month with vodafone.

  • Tempting - currently using Virgin (also on Optus). I remember there was a time Vodafone was seen as unreliable and people said it had poorer coverage despite using the Optus network, I take it that's all in the past now?

    • +1

Weird. I have always seen people complain about Vodafone network, and I have lived in Melbourne for 10 years and now in Brisbane for over a year and never had any problems!

I also travel to Sydney and north QLD a bit, no issues at all!

      • +1

Same here. 8 years and I've never had issues.

      • Live in Melbourne for 6 years, before that 7 years in Sydney and I've not once had an issue with Vodafone or their coverage where I've needed it. Very pleased with the unbeatable $5 roaming also.

    • +1

With Vodafone for the past 6 years in sydney metro, no issues.

      • Thanks folks!

  • So the $5 roaming fee kicks in each day you use phone (data/calls/sms) in selected overseas country?

So if you away for 3 days, use phone day 1 on landing, then nothing while sight seeing day 2 but again day 3, then you only pay $10?

    • Correct but note the $5/day is on top of your monthly fee so e.g. going by your example and you pay $35/mth in AU, then in the month that you travel and use your phone for 2 days you'll be looking at paying $45 for that month.

      • Thanks, I am sure you also want make sure which time zone they counting the "day" as, local country time zone or Aus timezone.

        • +2

Pretty sure it's the based on the country that you're in and a "day" is counted as a 24hr block in that country - based on my personal experience.

          For more details see: https://www.vodafone.com.au/support/plans/international-roam…

          • @nickxau: Good for short trip like 3 - 5 days. Not really good if you are travelling for 3 weeks overseas.

            • @arctan: Depends I guess… for me, getting a local SIM card + getting (less) data costs me more/day than if I was to pay an extra $5/day and not have to switch SIM cards back and forth etc… Keep in mind I was still paying my monthly fee at home anyway and not being able to use the included benefits (mainly data) while I was overseas.

            • @arctan: Yea. Usually good if you land in the country and need to shop around for a sim, you keep it on for 1 - 2 days and get a local sim card asap

              • @kmish: Does anyone else offer this same $5 a day service or does Voda offer on any pre-paid service?

Going to Bali and Jakarta soon for 6 days, was a pain trying to find a local sim card when landed in Jakarta last time but maybe Bali easier? If not then going try and find a local Aus sim deal like this for the $5 extra a day.

                • @bargrin: I found getting a sim in bali for data a bit of a nightmare as well. I needed a local's ID and it just got too hard.

                • @bargrin: No other provider offers anything close to the $5/day Voda deal.

            • @arctan: Actually it works great for longer holidays. You're only charged for a day if you use the mobile network for anything other than receiving SMS. Days you have WiFi just turn off data roaming and don't answer calls or use flight mode. No charge.

Download offline Google maps so you don't require data just to look up the map or directions.

3 week holiday, say 10-12 days of use, $50-60 is so worth it for the ease and peace of mind.

I'm on a 50GB plan, will consider moving to 100GB. Pays off even if I get close to the limit once or twice in the year.
