still expensive, I'd rather invest in getting my first car, even if it's a micra

    • +3

You can buy this, then Gran Turismo 5, and then drive a virtual Micra instead! (They're in the game)

  • +2

Thats not expensive, cheapest price I have seen for a while, anything around 350 is super low. + From me!
I already have one, but would buy one at this price if I didn't.

    • +1

This is a pretty reasonable price for the wheel, especially since the cheapest in store is around $500. However they have popped up on LogitechShop between 315-350 from time to time when they have their crazy sales. I picked one up for 330 including shipping about a month or so ago.

  • +1

Be warned for those of you thinking of buying one of these for Gran Turismo 5… there is no way to customise the buttons on the wheel in the game. This means that you can't have the handbrake or reverse button on the wheel like you can with the Driving Force series.

    • can you put it in reverse using the gears (or is that disabled when playing automatic?) and also in your opinion is it worth getting the g27? or does the excitement fade? I found this the case with other steering wheels (even the DFGT). interested to know what you think as an owner.

      • +2

Yes you can reverse using the gear stick by pushing it down and towards the wheel, that's not a problem. If you are using the paddles to change gears you could quickly reach to the stick and put it into reverse I suppose. But if you were using automatic you would have to use the "triangle" button, which is located on the gear stick attachment. So depending on where you attach that, it can be very annoying to reach over and hold down while you try and steer one handed in reverse. More annoying I find though is having to reach round and try and find "circle" to handbrake. That's a gamebreaker in my book and makes it pretty much useless for drifting.

If you've used a DFGT and got sick of that then don't get this. I find them both equally as fun (I own a Driving Force Pro too) and use them interchangably, depending on if I want to race a little more arcadey or realistically.

        • thanks for the advice mate!

        • Learn to drive and stay on the road geez..
          The g27 rocks..

        • Good advice, its a shame that its not fully supported. I have a racing seat from Pagnian Imports with this and its pretty good.
Reverse is no big deal, and in most racing you dont need the handbrake, but when you do need it, its a pain, but you learn to live without it.

Pedals feel really good, and the Force Feedback is A1, overall a quality item from Logitech (great deal at this price).

Its one of those things that I couldnt do half hearted, so opted for the full simulator and its been great. If I just had this on my lap or on a table, the novelty would have worn off long ago, but I still find it great fun on GT5.

Hopefully NFS Shift 2 will have full G27 support ;)

I totally agree with grey daniel
But I have it strapped to a table and the novelty hasnt worn off… gt5 is soo much better with the wheel/shifter clutch setup. Just buy it already!

        • .

    • It's not fully configurable, but don't let it put you off it. It still works fantastically with the game where it counts, in the force feedback, shifting and general steering.

There are just a few minor niggles, such as the inability to assign buttons and the horrible propensity to not go into second gear if you are shifting really fast. (This problem is alone to GT5, works fine in other games)

  • If only it would work for xbox

    • yep…if it did i'd have an xbox…
and if ps3s werent so expensive id have a ps3.
      and because of this i dont have either…but i have a g25 which i bought for $220 at dicksmith… Still waiting for another $200 ps3 deal…nnyghaaaa!

    COME ON LTS!!!
    YOU CAN DO $300!!!

    • haha lol they probably will ;)

    • I'm waiting for LTS to beat it too.

Mostly because the wheel doesnt support xbox360 and I think it'll just sit there without much use. So I want it cheap-as-possible. Otherwise I'd pay this price.

  • I'm waiting for Anoher tv ps3 deal

  • I assume these are brand new? It doesn't say anywhere in the description.

    • You'd think so. Where else would they get like 100 used G27 wheels?

Edit: Probably from 100 pissed off xbox users.

  • Hi Shaun,

Shopping Monster only sell brand new, sealed, Australian stock with full manufacturers warranty.

  • +1

Non-customising in GT5 is a game problem, not a wheel problem. So don't blame Logitech for Sony choosing to support natively the new Thrustmaster Wheel (try twice the price for that wheel!). I run a G27 with GT5 and it's great. I've tried the DFGT and it doesn't compare in any shape or form, it's a toy by comparison, noisier FF, pedals too soft, wheel too plasticky. If you really love your sims then G27, if you like arcadey race games, get a DFGT (if they are back in stock - most shops ran out when GT5 came out!).

  • Cheap price for the product, but far too expensive for only a few titles. Could buy another PS3 for that price. I'm glad I've still got my PS2 Driving Force wheel I paid $120 for years ago.

    • As someone who owns both a G27 and the Driving Force, I gotta say that the difference is like night and day. 900 degrees of rotation, H-pattern shifter, much more solid build quality with leather grips and steel resistive pedals, not to mention the H-shifter give a huge sense of realism and add alot to the game.

Of course, not everyone has the money to blow on one of these, and if you want just a quick fix you'd be better off looking at something cheaper.

One thing to remember is if you buy this thing, you probably will want to get yourself some sort of racing frame/seat to support it. It's far too uncomfortable on anything that isn't a desk or a racing frame.

      • +1

You're spot on. No wheel comes even close to the G27, but it's up to you to determine whether the cost is worth it to you. Just like everyone KNOWS that generally speaking (with of course some exceptions) a 60k car is going to run a lot nicer and most likely last you a lot longer than a 15k car, but that doesn't stop people from buying the 15k cars.

It's about what's best for you, and while this wheel is far superior to any others I've used, I can't justify buying one for myself.

        • There are wheels that are superior to the G27, but they are up around the 1K mark.

There is nothing that comes close to the build quality in this class of wheel and pedal setup though!

  • I also have one of these, and although it's a fantastic unit (great quality, force feedback, shift lights), there isn't a single console game that supports the clutch authentically - in every game I've tried that supports it (GT5, NFS Shift… what else? Midnight club LA?), it basically acts as a switch. No concepts of stalling, tearing off gear teeth - typical things you'd want if you are going for the "ultimate driving simulation"…

I haven't tried any PC games yet, but I've read that they have better support (but still limited).

    • Actually you can stall in GT5. Brake to a stand-still without the clutch held down and you should hear the whistling of the wind instead of your engine. To start up again you have to push the clutch down and press the accelerator fully. I agree though, it could really do with some sort of feedback if you try and shift into gears you shouldn't be able to.

  • Still too expensive.. You know how much they mark up Logitech products, eventually will be discounted huge to over 75% of the price. The Logitech original RRP is always over inflated and ripoff!

    • ah crap, pressed the wrong comment, was supposed to up vote so you'll be on 0, now its -2. sorry. yeah the RRP is way over inflated. the g25 was what, 299 RRP? g27 was 599 before i think, now its down to 549. gee.
