  • fyi that's 5% return if redeeming Flybuys points for in-store Coles credit

    • So only $5 return

    • +3

      isn't it 10% for the $50 giftcards?

  • $100 Visa card interests me… if you can pay at self checkout with 5% off EGC, you are essentially paying $100.65 for $100 visa gift card plus $5.50 in flybuys points; not to mention points earned on credit card.

BTW you can't split pay with EGC at self checkout.

    • I tried to do this a couple of months ago and the stupid self checkout attendant wouldn't let me pay by egiftcard. I had already scanned my egiftcard but he cancelled it and wouldn't leave to make sure I wouldn't try it again.

I have been lucky I guess, brought all 10 available $50 catch gift cards at coles store near me on wednesday at 9:30AM for $380 (plus FB points)

        • You can use maximum 5 gift cards in one transaction on catch.com.au if I remember correctly.

      • +1

ive tried to use coles egift card to buy and even with staff intervention, it just rejects it

dunno if mine is area or im doing it wrong, but its never worked for me yet

        • Did you try and split the payment? If yes, then it won't work. For example, if you want to buy visa card this time, buy a $200 Coles EGC and try with that. I usually scan some other items along with gift cards, call checkout attendant to authorise while showing him flybuys on my phone, and then scan flybuys and pay with gift card. Works every time.

          • @Cisco123: No i didnt.

As you said i exactly have a $200 colew (not coles myer) egift card.
I tried buying groceries and the card together. And then i tried the card by itself and then i got the error msg.

Or can staff over ride it?
            I might try another store

    • can you please elaborate on the calculation?

      • +1

Not sure which part was unclear, but essentially $100 visa card has $5.95 processing fee. So $105.95 is what you pay on Coles e-gift card. At 5% discount, that's $100.65 from your pocket. You are getting 1000 FB points as part of this offer which are worth $5 and as you made a purchase of $105.95, you get standard 105 FB points worth approx $0.50 (52.5 cents to be exact). So a $5.50 back as FB points.

        • Thanks, mate.

  • What's the purchase fee for this visa?

    • +1

      As per the screenshot, $5.95.

    • Last sentence in the linked image: $5.95.

Weren't these exact cards offering 2000 flybuys points 2 weeks ago?

    • +1

You can see the description and find out :)

      • +5

It was rhetorical…Coles have dropped the points earn was my point

  • +3

Used to be 2000 flybuys, 50% cut in bonus points.

  • +3

    Dont get the deal.
$5.95 to buy the gift card to get $5 in flybuys credit
    So still $0.95 worse off?

    • That's only for the Visa card. The rest won't have a fee.

When purchasing ONLY 1 VISA CARD, a $5.95 purchase fee will apply in addition to the value of the gift card.

      • -2

^ No your wrong it's $5.95 as per the posted thumbnail!

        • And where does it say that it's for all gift cards?

        • Yep only the Visa card attracts this fee. the others do not. I dont see the point in these Visa cards. The 5.95 activation fee makes them pointless in my mind.

          • @hazzad: Not if you got 2000 points and paid via a non Visa/MasterCard credit card…..

            • @PLANT: What does paying via a non visa/mastercard credit card have to do with it. Still have to pay the 5.95 activation fee for the gift card dont you? Whilst you may still be ahead by 4.05, you are still better off buying one of the other cards. Each to their own but i just dont see the point in Visa gift cards when you have to pay the activation fee. Whether you are getting a reward for it or not. makes no sense to me.

          • +2

@hazzad: What’s the point? Well I like free money, that’s the point. $6.58 per card, to be exact, plus it has other benefits.

I have a recurring bill that incurs a 0.9% fee to pay by VISA, or 0.3% to pay by VISA debit. I could pay with my own debit card but then that spend doesn’t contribute to the minimum spend I need on whichever credit card I am using (for bonus points). So this saves me $0.59 in cc fees.

I buy this VISA1 card using 5% discounted eGift card. This costs me net $0.65.

Total points earned for this transaction is 1,106 flybuys, which this month convert to 553 velocity points. I value these points at 1.2c (per the open market) and therefore this is worth $6.64.

            • @endolphin: There an ozbargainer who can do 6% off eGift card

      • +1

Visa card is the only direct currency card on this offer though. Others are store specific cards. Net discount (after activation charge and FB points earned) on Visa card is much more valuable as it’s easy savings without any further transactions, which is nil here.

  • +1

I really hated the 1 Visa gift cards. These cards don't come with pins making it hard to use in store.

    • +2

Just press enter and sign. The painful thing is to calc balance all the time.

      • If it works, it's usually the CBA Albert tablet EFTPOS machines that offer the option of signing. However, from my experience most POS will just out right reject it.

    • I hate these cards for another reason: it's not possible to see all transactions on a single page, unlike any other gift card, so if you have transactions here & there over time, it's painful navigating through 30-day periods. On the plus side, yes there have been better deals but it's a good way to earn max Amex points (via Coles) where amex isn't accepted elsewhere, for minimal surcharge. Plus flybuys points and linked Velocity status credit earn ;)
      No pin is convenient!

  • Hangon I up voted and realised that only 1000 points for a $5.95fee $100 card…hence down 0.95 cents unless you can get the 5% discount card to scan :(
    Cannot remove vote?

    • Just keep the vote for the $50 cards instead :)

    • Same here, the 1000 points does not worth it, even for the $50 cards!

    • 5% staff discount on gift cards at Coles does not apply. At Woolies it does.

      • +3

So Woolies employees get 5% off even on all gift cards at any time? That’s cool.

        • Yes thats correct, I have a woolworths staff discount and it does give 5% off all gift cards all the time at woolworths. At Big W staff discount does not apply at all on any fidt cards but we always get 10% off everything else.

  • -1

Can any 1 explain how to buy gift card by egift card please? I tried before, but if chose gift card payment, the system did not allow it. If chose card payment, no way to swipe the egift card like physical gift card through the eftpos terminal to pay.

  • you can get some of the ultimate cards at a $30 denomination, softening the blow of essentially halving the usual bonus points on offer.

    • Dont believe the $30 card is eligible. Pretty sure they only do these promos for $50 and up now. Havent allowed anything under $50 for some time now.

      • +1

This is incorrect. The $30 card is eligible, its not excluded from the offer.

Collect 1000 BONUS Points When You Purchase Any Ultimate for Him, Teens, Kids, or Home Gift Cards or a $100 Only 1 Visa Gift Card and Swipe Your Flybuys Card at the Checkout
Collect 1000 BONUS Points When You Purchase Any Ultimate for Him, Teens, Kids, or Home Gift Cards or a $100 Only 1 Visa Gift Card and Swipe Your Flybuys Card at the Checkout

ANY includes $30. I got the $30 last time round and got 2000 bonus points.

        • +1

Apologies. They have usually excluded anything under $50 in the past.

  • +16

Dont buy any of them and Coles will raise the rebate points to 2k next time.

    • +1

      Sit in protest!!

  • T&C: BONUS POINTS can only be collected once per flybuys account.
Does it means I can only get 1000 points even if I purchase many cards in my first transaction?
Or I can get as many as points as long as they are in the first transaction?

    • +1

You can only get 1000 points per flybuys account, regardless of how many you purchase

  • where do you get 5% off Coles egift card guys?

  • +1

Bought a $30 Ultimate Teens Gift Card to see if they really mean any as per the catalogue (plan to use it on Google Play credit from JB Hi-Fi); will report results tomorrow evening.

Edit: Turns out I apparently didn't scan my flybuys card so have to go back and get the points … Also to the person who negged me - why apart from the fact that you don't like me, considering you also negged my other comment which had useful information?

    • +2

Dont take 1 neg too personally

300 negs, yes take it persoanlly!

    • Yeah my scan didn't show on my receipt. Wonder if it worked? I hope I don't have to go back

      • I swear I heard the beep from the flybuys scanner when I scanned my phone, and it wasn't until I was reading the receipt at work and it said I could have earned x points with flybuys that I realised it didn't register my flybuys card. I ended up going back during my break to claim my points.

        • Yeah I'm sure the machine thanked me for scanning it. When you went back did it then appear on your receipt?

          • @grasstown: The lady who fixed it up for me didn't issue a new receipt; she just scanned the original receipt, asked for my Flybuys number, and said it was done.

If the points don't show up by Friday evening, I guess I'll follow up on Monday

            • +1

@kerfuffle: You can always just call Flybuys. They just ask for some details of the receipt and update the details on their end. I did the same a few weeks back with a gift card. They credited me over the phone.

              • +1

@hazzad: Her way is easier and quicker. It happened to me once before and fixed points adding in the same way. You won't be able to get this fixed in Woolies. So be careful when buy GCs there.

              • @hazzad: Thanks! Coles is a five minute walk from work so probably faster to fix in person than calling, but good to know for next time :D

            • @kerfuffle: You dont get a new reciept.

Points will be on your account in 1-2 days

              • @Turd: Yeah I knew I wasn't going to get a new receipt; points should hopefully show up tonight :)

    • +4

You will get 30+1000 pts with no doubt. My local store has a tag saying buying this $30 card will earn you 1000 bonus pts.

  • Bought a $30 gift for teens gift card earlier today, went through self serve but the attendant wanted to confirm that I was paying through credit card and not gift card.

Can someone explain why using a gift card to purchase another is not allowed? And apologies if this has been explained before, I just don’t understand the restriction on it.
