  • Kmart now sells the Mirabella smart light bulbs at $29 each. It's my first smart bulb and worked with Alexa. I don't know if this is better. But… what makes a light bulb "smarter' if we are comparing across brands? Functionality?

    • +1

isnt that just white and yellow?
      this is multicolour

    • +3

I have a Xiaomi (white), a LIFX (colour) and the Kmart Mirabella (white). The Mirabella is as good as the Xiaomi for functionality and light. The Mirabella was easier to set up. The Lifx is much better (turns on quicker, more functionality, brighter light) but the price is much higher.

The test will be to see how long they keep working for.

      • The 11w RGB Lifx bulbs aren't that much dearer, they go for $40 on sale kind of regularly.

These for $27 or RGB Mirabella for $29 as a normal price is really decent though.

    • Does it have api for home assistant?

      • If you use Tuya instead of the Genio app to set it up you should be able to control using HA

        • What's HA ?

  • Can I get this to fit in a bayonet fitting?

    • Ikea used to sell adapters but they were not exactly snug fitting.

I’m guessing bayonet is an Australian thing.

      • +1

i went to ikea about 6 months ago and they didnt sell them

        • Apparently they are illegal to install due to not being able to guarantee the outer screw part in the neutral. I bought some from eBay instead and I don't let my wife change the bulbs… That said we have not had any issues and needed to change any.

        • Ikea had to stop selling them

    • +1

The Mirabella ones from Kmart offer both fittings Edison and bayonet. I think with the Yeelight you need an adapter.

What else does this need to work? Is it going to be like those Xiaomi cameras that need to be connected to a Mainland China server via the Mi app, or just my home network/Google something? I have 2 Xiaomi cameras that I haven't set up because of that connecting to mainland Chinese server thing.

    • +1

I have these lights and you have various options to connect to them:

You can use their mi app which has the issues of the Mainland China server etc.
I think their yeelight app suffers the same issue
I have connected mine to the google assistance but I am not sure if you need to have it setup in the yeelight app or mi app somehow to being with…
You can also use it with third party apps. I have my own domoticz server running so I can control the lights without the need for it to talk to china servers or even the internet (just the local internal network). But you first have to allow third party apps by setting it up in the yeelight app.

      • Cheers. Really appreciate that detailed info. Will get one and see how it goes.

        • +2

Can second that these can be set up without the Chinese server via home assistant (it will take extra work though)

    • Singapore if you want google or alexa support

Awesome, just last night I was hoping for another deal on these. I bought a couple from Banggood during the last sale and they've been excellent. This deal is only $2 more expensive than the Banggood deal, which is very respectable given that they're Australian stock. Thank OP :)

  • Does the Kmart ones work with mi hub?

  • Do I need a bridge?

    • Nope. It uses inbuilt wifi to connect to your home network, and then you control it using the app.

  • Bought 2 on Friday at $29ea from some eBay seller. Damn.

Be aware that you might have connectivity issues if your phone is a current flagship phone. I own this light bulb and it stopped working when I upgraded to pixel 3 from pixel 2 xl due to some connection issues. It seems to be a common issue from what I can find on google. Also stopped working on my gf's phone when she upgraded from iphone 6s to 8.

Not sure why I was down voted. Just sharing my experience with the community

      • +1

Because what you are telling has nothing to do with connectivity imho

        • +1

The light only connects to the phone at initial install, everything else after that is communicated via the 'cloud' or local LAN depending on your setup. Perhaps there is a compatibility with your phone and the mi home app but that would seem unlikely..

    • +1

Yup, I am having those issues right now. I bought two bulbs from this deal and both the Mi Home and Yeelight apps are shite. I can only get them to work with one light at a time. I did all the 5x switching on and off and removing the devices and adding them back again, there are connection issues all the time. And also, if you switch off any of the lights from the wall they become offline and can't connect to the app. You have to go through all that 5x switching off and on again. I wish I only bought one and not two. The bulbs are fine, but the apps are pain in the neck.

  • so if u go to the product page.. one of the photos show a coloured light underneath the sofa.

HOW DO U INSTALL SUCH A THING UNDERNEATH YOUR SOFA?? using what lighting system?

  • Cant find anywhere on page - what is shipping time like?

    • We use Auspost eparcel. We will close at 25th, 26th Dec 2018 and 1st Jan 2019.

      • I ordered two already. So if you ship on 24th (tomorrow) whats the eta on delivery to brisbane?

  • Awesome. Get the 2 pack

  • Need adapters to. Bayonet and eBay ones can be unsafe!?

    • I got a pack of six from Amazon AU about a week ago.

  • I have an iphone/ipad and a google home at my place.

Will this work with the google home without going through Chna servers?

    • I have an original Xiaomi Yeelight bulb and they're compatible with the Google Home app alone.

  • Does it work with echo or Google?

    • yes.

      • Yes to what? Fitzwah has asked whether it works with Echo OR Google. So which one?

        • The « Or » doesn’t mean it will only work either one. Works with both according to the listing.

        • Both

  • Does this have the 'wake up gently with a sunrise' kinda feature in the app?
I have the kmart mirabella RGB one, had to manually and painstakingly automate the lights for sunrise.

    • The mirabella/smartlife app is limited in terms of programming the bulb, as well as I can't really create individual 'colour' scenes for some reason. It only uses the most recent manually used colour. Anyone have experience with both the RGB bulbs? Thanks :D

    • The yeelight app had this inbuilt from memory but I have never used it.

  • Thanks, ordered two. Looking forward to link it with Home Assistant.

    • Received last week, works great with Home Assistant.

  • thanks op bought 1

  • When's delivery?

    • got mine today.
just wondering if we can use MiHome App instead of the Yeelight App.

      • I use MiHome with mine

        • couldn't do it on mine, do you have v1 or v2?
this updated version seems to only works with yeelight app (in conjunction with mihome), but all the controls etc is from yeelight app

          • @RichDad PoorSon: Make sure you're on the China server. I have the v2

            • @DaddysBelt: yea figured as much, I cant use china server anymore because I own Roborock (wont work on china server - they dont like spying on our cleaning habit)

  • I've tried to click on the link and the two packs are back to $70

  • Seems to be over?

  • As onecentaday mentioned here, I am experiencing connection issues with these lights. I checked about a dozen of Yeelight and Mi Home forums re this issue, and there seem to be a lot of people having similar problems, but couldn't find a solution. Anyone else experiencing this, or is it to do with my old-ass phone? I am using an older phone, Samsung Galaxy S5. I bought two lights and can connect with one of them at a time with either Yeelight app or Mi Home app. I managed to control both via the Mi app once after the initial set up, but after that issues started and after hours of trying to find a solution, can't get them to work with both lights.

Edit: I deleted the Yeelight app and both are working with Mi app as of now. I wanted the Yeelight app so that I can control them via Google Assistant (read it somewhere that you have to have Yeelight app if you wanna control the lights with Google Home, not sure if there's a workaround to have them work via Google Assistant without Yeelight app. Will stick to Mi app for now. Fingers crossed it will work fine).
