Mod: Please note that Kogan changed it's specs for this tablet from 1024x600 to 800x480. For refunds, please contact [email protected] or see comments below

Firstly; People should be aware that Kogan's pricing increases over time due to "liveprice"
"LivePrice allows you to purchase a product while we are in the process of manufacturing or shipping."
The product is now $153, but will rise incrementally to $189 (full purchase price) if you buy on 27 May.

"If you change your mind about purchasing a product with LivePrice, don't worry! You can request a refund at any stage while the product has a LivePrice, and our 7 Day Money Back Guarantee applies after a product is delivered"

Found this on a site I regular for reviews/updates.

Cheapest android tablet I've seen for a while that is actually decent!

The Kogan Agora 7" Tablet PC Features:

• Android 2.2 Operating System

• Android Market with Thousands of Apps & Games (inc. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube)

• Built in Wi-Fi

• Read & Write emails with the Gmail or Email app

• Supports 720p HD Playback

• HDMI® video output (HDMI® Cable Included)

• 1 x USB

• 1 x microSD Slot

• Desktop Widgets inc. Weather, Calendar, Clock, YouTube

• Media Player - Watch Movies, Listen to Music, Browse Photos

A really worthwhile buy if you're in the market.

Yes, I know it does not come with the new Android 3.0 OS which is only for tablets, however for a cheap tablet as such with a decent processor, this is still a great deal for those who are in the market for one.

    • I was wondering the same. I sent the email at 1pm and still no response yet.

  • 800x480 is no go for me. The price is still good but the device is no better than my HTC Desire. No point in buying something I already have.

You idiots voted me down yesterday for saying this would turn out to POS. And surprise I was right. This is what's wrong with this whole taking neg votes away from people.

People don't seem to want to hear about these warnings.

Guys, Kogan products usually over quote the specs and under delivered. They quote 120Hz support for their TVs, yet they cannot even get 60Hz right.

They rebrand cheap/no name brand products and play around with words to make you think their products are better than they actually are.

Now, from what I can see.. the catches are (1) a non-mainstream CPU is in the tablet, which could mean there is no 3D acceleration enabled GPU. You cannot just consider the CPU clock speed. (2) It could come with Android 2.1, rather than 2.2 (coz. that no name brand equivalent Kogan is rebranding indicates 2.1). (3) 800x480 is NOT 720p… it is more like 480p via HDMI. Don't get hooked and assumed HDMI is 1080p. HDMI is just an interface. 480p is nothing to be excited about. You add all those together, you will soon see why it is priced at $146.

Honestly, they don't even know exactly what they are selling (or could be worse - they know and they provide the wrong specs. on purpose).

I had very bad experience with Kogan products before. No more Kogan product for me.

My friend asked me about it (even before they revised the spec).. I told them NOT TO get one. I am not suprised about the spec change. Kogan's specs mean nothing. Supporting 1080p@60Hz very poorly still means 60Hz support in Kogan's terms.

      • People don't seem to want to hear about these warnings.

The problem is…. when a small number of people neg a deal…. all the warnings disappear anyway as the post gets booted from the front page….
'Negging the neg', (not necessarily the content), means more people are likely to see it…..

    • I think your comment were marked down for suggesting the Optus MyTab.. and you just said the Agora is garbage, not predicting that Kogan got the specs wrong..

  • got email confirmation from Kogan that my order was cancelled. As per email :"Please allow up to 7 days for this to appear in your Paypal account"

  • Yeah mine took three hours to get.rep but happy.to wait

  • I think Kogan just went all out and spoiled its reputation even more with this blunder..

Frankly, the Tab at $299 is a much better deal.

This is just Kogan as usual, re-branding Chinese generic OEM rubbish usually found on DX with marginally more quality control (sad thing is DX usually get their specs right the first time).

Spend the extra $134.45 and get delivery next week, 3G, Bluetooth, GPS with navigation app, much higher res screen, 2x cameras, 16GB storage, dedicated global community that will surely be around for a while.. should I continue?

800x480 on a 7" device is appalling, the PPI is so low reading will be terrible. My 4" phone has the same res. The iPhone 4 has a higher res at 3.5". Too many corners cut here. You can be sure it will have poor viewing angles, contrast ratios and everything else that comes with a cheap screen.

It's 'ok' value for something you probably won't be using all that much next year. Some people will easily blow through this much one night out. But if you're thinking you may need a tablet, you're better off saving a little more and getting something worthwhile.

Each to their own of course and this is just my opinion. Personally don't own a tablet and have no plans to buy one but the Tab is an excellent alternative.

Anyone spruiking for Kogan should seriously consider the irony of their existance. They're trying to challenge the 'big brands' and 'big box' retailers. Yet all they do is slap on a barely-reputable brand name over generic Chinese gear and charge a premium. Where's the value add? Why are top-tier brands usually just a fraction more expensive and significantly better quality? They sell identical items K-Mart sell $20 cheaper before you consider postage. Of course they don't have the buying power.. but they're really purporting to be something they're not.

  • Oh no, I couldn't send my email to Kogan this morning. What's wrong with their system?

Well that's it. They've now removed the samsung cpu. This is looking more and more like Bait and switch.

  • As far as I know, Cortex A8 is from Samsung

Kogan UK site got the specs more clearly than OZ site

No, Cortex A8 is just the name of a particular revision of the ARM core. Anyone can license to include them in their SOC. But its the SOC, ie. the implementation of the core that makes all the difference.

Samsung (including Apple), Ti, Qualcomm are all good SOCs using A8 core, Freescale are not. I'm picking this POS is Freescale, given that they removed the Samsung reference.
