Took me 4 days for my Linux ISO to download and I finished today!
Why wasn't this posted just 5 hours earlier?

Yes! So happy about this; I was literally just whining about how badly I wanted the price of this to drop. JB has it for like $100 or something!

Definitely buying, thanks for the head up!

oh baby….. if im not mistaken this is remastered pack!!!!

have a look at the difference here…. if you have this on dvd already, maybe dont look (you'll want to throw away your dvds) :)

    "in the pipe…. 5 by 5" :)

    • Well, I looked at the three images and while they're different and have a higher dynamic range, are they really better? It appears in at least one scene the colour balance was changed. Different? Yes. Better? Maybe. For me, the best representation is faithful to the original master film and what the director wanted.

google for more info, but pretty sure james cameron himself sat down and remastered this bad boy. there's more image examples to be found online, but from what i can find this is one hell of a remastered set. and just so you know, dvd cant come close to "the original master film and what the director wanted"… its technically inferior by a long shot. so is bluray actually, but least it comes closer ;).

    • *Remastered for Bluray.

  • So what you call 4 movies. What about 5? 6?

    • There are only four Alien movies.

There are two Alien v Predator movies, but that's a different franchise. You wouldn't call them Predator 3 & 4 either.

  • Oh boy. I was going to wait for the movies to come out individually because I don't really want to buy Alien 3 or 4, but at this price I guess I can make an exception.

    • +1

I actually like Alien 3, 4 is completely ridiculous and shouldn't have been made.

  • +3

They mostly ship the set at night… mostly.

I hope the 4 hours of bonus footage includes all those out-takes from Aliens.

  • These region 4 or whatever blu rays are?

    • +3

Region B which is our Region, import away! :P

  • The picture quality of Aliens was horrific, way too much grain and a washed out mauve hue. you can see why he chose to remaster it, its probably the best remastering of a film you will ever see, he even got rid of a few errors.

great box set just a shame theres no commentary's from Weaver.

  • Damn!
2 weeks ago i bought from Amazon US and i paid $71 AUD.
AAARRRGH! if i knew…. next time i gonna buy from UK

  • I paid ~$52 through Amazon UK on release :(

  • Nevermind.

  • any suggestions on something to combine it with for free shipping? :)

Five Dirty Harry set on Bluray for 16 pounds? Was on the Alien page.

For sheer HD splendour, any of the BBC Earth series are well worth while: Planet Earth, Life, Human Planet.

  • Can anyone please tell me how you are able to play the UK discs on your aussie blu-ray players?

i bought the expendables from amazon uk and it doesnt work due to the region difference.

    • There are four bluray region codes. UK and Australia are both in region B. Check to ensure that your disc is region B and that your Bluray player is region B.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc

      • thanks john, where does it say on amazon uk alien anthology what region it is? Ive been looking but i cant see it

Because i bought the expendables from amazon.uk but when it arrived, it had region A on the back…

        • all bluray from UK is 100% AU ok.

        • Region A is North America only, odd that Amazon UK sell a Region A Blu Ray, and many Blu Rays sold are region free.

You can try entering a code for your Blu ray player by googling a code, and that may allow multi reading of discs on your player, but beware entering a code incorrectly may damage the player.

    • Did you buy it on DVD, not Blu Ray?

We're different regions (2 v 4) for DVD, but the same region (B) for Blu Ray.

  • Another great example of how JB HIFI price gouge Australian buyers. With Super Saver, Amazon UK offers free postage to Australia. Why, does JB HIFI need to charge us $100, when Amazon UK only charges us $25.50? JB once was known for cheap prices. Now that it has been corporatised, we see JB HIFI in high rent shopping centres, where they hope to sell to uninformed buyers. So, ozbargainers spread the word: "JB HIFI Four Times The Price". Gerry, you are not alone in the greed stakes.

    • Find me any Australian retailer selling this at the same price Amazon is. Its probably got nothing to do with JB and everything to do with their distributers here. JB still has plenty of DVD's that are cheap by Australian standards

    • The sad thing is that you're right; they actually WERE known for cheap prices.

I seriously use to buy all my entertainment needs from them, only 3-4 years ago. I don't buy ANYTHING from them anymore.

The only thing I got was Pokemon Black by trading in two $5 games that I bought on Ebay. I was quite proud of myself for ripping THEM off for once. :D

      • I dunno, I think they are ok for the odd DVD and cd. The entire retail sector here is behind the 8 ball when it comes to Bluray but and as the items get more expensive, such as boxsets, importing becomes a better option.

For DVDs which I imagine most consumers want, the $15 or so you can get a great many of the films at JB isnt too bad really. I din't think theyve gotten worse, just the importing option has gotten more viable due to more cheap importers and the strong dollar.

  • Just bought on Blue Ray from Amazon uk the Alien Trilogy , Band Of Brothers and Matrix Series all up $68 Aussie dollars.
Now I just need a blue ray player

    • +2

      now thats forward planning :).

if i bought blurays without a player like that, my mrs would kill me (yes im whipped) :).

  • I bought this pack at the end of January, it was ~ 25 pounds then. Definately worth picking up at this awesome price.

  • 19.99 pounds converts to approx $30.70 AUD - not sure where the $25.55 is coming from.

I notice that the Matrix trilogy on blu ray is pretty cheap on there too. Currently 14.97 pounds.

    • +1

take the VAT away I assume thats where the price is coming from with the added shipping fee (get it over 25 dollars and get free shipping)

    • Isn't that just the movies? I.e. no Animatrix?
