yeah pretty disappointed with amazon thus far. The odd sale & price matching is good. But the normal pricing of products outside of these is very poor.

      • No complaints from me. They always have the almost always joint cheapest price on products. With prime delivery, you get free 2-day delivery with no minimum spend which beats most of the competition. Another big plus point is that they never require signature on delivery unlike most of the competition.

        • +4

I want to sign for delivery. Otherwise they leave stuff in full view of the street and anyone can come and get it.

          • +2

@Yola: This. No requirement for delivery is one of my biggest issues with Amazon. A few people said their $750+ Huawei P20 Pro mobile phones were left outside their doors in that recent, popular deal. That's just ridiculous.

            • +2

@AussieDaddy: my nintendo switch was at the front door for the whole weekend - didn't realise it was there as we don't use that door.

          • @Yola: Swings and roundabouts I guess. Through my experiences with Amazon I would expect that they would replace any items that weren't at your door when you went to get them…

  • Can you share the free Amazon Music account which you get with Prime subscription?

  • i dont buy from amazon much yet. But should I sign up to this???
I buy and sign up stuff by impulse decision. Maybe some upvotes to me might help me in the right direction.
I am a fan of online buying, not buying from amazon much coz always trying to reach that $49 free delivery threshold.

    • You can always trial it for the month and see if you like it.

    • +1

I did not like Amazon at first due to membership fees but once I have tried Amazon, I already love them due to their guarantee shipping timeframe and peace of mind return, competitive prices (I bought a block of knife for $50 worth more than that in the shop which everyone asked where I got it from) and excellent customer support which you rarely see it on EBay. Also Amazon music free 80 hours and video is included in the membership so you could try it free then decide what to do

Just swapped over to yearly. The free prime shipping pays for itself very quickly. Plus there are lots of good stuff to watch on Prime Video. PLUS you get a year of Twitch prime. For $60 a year I get so much value out of this it's a no brainer.

    • +2

What exactly is twitch prime? Watching other ppl play games with no ads? Is that even enjoyable?

      • +1

Yes. It's enjoyable if you enjoy that sort of thing. It also lets you subscribe to one streamer for free each month. There are also subscriber only competitions etc. that aren't otherwise available to you.

      • +4

You get to watch gamers assault their wife with no ads.

        • +2

Well, I don't want to have an ad in the middle of assault.

My monthly $4.99 got deducted yesterday… if I understand correctly, I'm better off to wait until the end of the current subscription month which would be 27th Feb and then before I get charged I move to annual subscription right? And I will still get the $4.99 refunded?

    • +1

That was my experience however I don't know if the 31st of January date has any role to play, as being the end of the $4.99 per month discount service.

    • I swapped to annual - it said I was getting the balance refunded. $3.50 or so.

    • +2

I plan to switch to annual after having this monthly discount finished.

You can check a box to have a reminder sent to you about three days before the next charge is up so you can switch to annual then.

  • Is audible included in this at all?

    • +3

No. The $200/year Audible subscription is not included in the $59 Prime membership.

  • Every book listed under 'Prime Reading' says "this content isn't downloadable in your region". Anyone else having the same issue? This is under Prime Reading under the Amazon.com.au domain.

  • Just joined the Amazon Prime family. Any pro tips I need to know?

    • +1

If a member starts learning a new musical instrument, don't pressure them into playing for you.

  • I have already set a reminded on my phone's calendar to switch to the yearly subscription one day before my $4.99/monthly subscription expires. Better than the useless eBay Plus.

    • You can switch any time. Don't have to wait

      • I know. I wanted to exhaust the $4.99 monthly subscription first before I move to the yearly subscription so I set the reminder about two months ago. Will switch it soon.

  • +5

    Thanks,I've changed over to Annual.
I've saved so much money using Prime, hardly buy from eBay now.
    Prime TV is great 😊

    • Exactly my thoughts! $59 is a no-brainer!

  • +1

Thanks OP! Just changed to Annual.
" Plan has been changed successfully
You will now be charged $59.00 for a year of Prime. "

  • +1

Thanks OP. I forgot this was going to go up in price. Had waited to pay 6 months on one AMEX to be able to then pay a year on the other AMEX (double up on the $30 cashback).
I had recently paid the monthly fee and just changed to yearly. Does anyone know if I will get reimbursed pro-rata for the monthly fee?

    • did you got the cashback on second Amex for yearly payment ?
did you paid it after 18/12/2018 or before ?

      • Crap, I may have missed the boat. Forgot about expiry of that offer.

  • Anyone seen when fire stick 4K is coming to Australia? Don’t feel like chat on Amazon, no email option.

  • +2

Love Prime. Some gems in the Amazon Global Store and free shipping has saved me heaps!

  • +1

Thanks for the reminder post OP. I intended to convert to annual but probably would have forgotten without you 👏

  • +1

Just a note for those intending to go yearly from the discounted monthly. I changed last week and expected the yearly to begin after my month ended, but it doesn't. The moment you select yearly, your monthly will end and Amazon will pro rata refund.

  • +2

Thanks OP! Changed to yearly. Have been using Amazon Prime a lot and received a lot of value out of it. Ebay Plus on the other hand…

  • +1

You'll make the fee back in spades on savings on deals across the year - I still have 3 big boxes of paper towels to work through that bought in bulk when it first came out

  • +1

Thanks for re-sharing this. Just switched from $6.99/month to $59/year. Saving money is great. :)

  • Anyone familiar with how many devices one can use for the video app?

  • +1

Thanks OP. I joined amazon prime about 6 months ago and the membership was just about to increase to $6.99 a month but I just changed to the annual membership for $59.

  • If i change my plan to yearly, will i still be able to get the cashback from Amex deal, which is already active for my account on monthly payments ?

    • I thought the amex deal had finished.

  • +1

Looks like you can't watch Amazon Prime video content running PIA VPN?

  • Just cancelled mine - was just billed $4.99 and it said if I cancel I can get 4.99 refunded. Used it a few times in my 30 day free trial but may not use again. Although may regret this when I see ozbargain deals come up and then possibly splurge and do the $59/pa plan.

    • I don't think it will be 59 per year when you go to do that. This is the special price.

      • Haven't seen anything to suggest that the $59 / year price is a special price. Seems to be the current regular price until they decide to add more value or increase the regular price. This thread is about the introductory monthly price coming to an end.

  • I just changed my plan from monthly to annual and I was instantly charged as opposed to when my current period was over (which was next month). Contacted live support and they instantly refunded me the remaining days and apologised.

    • When I did it, it said it would automatically refund me the remaining days and then charge me for the full year.

  • +2

What do you guys get from Amazon Prime…i had prime since beginning Jan but havnt purchase anything yet as i find the price on ebay is slightly cheaper.

    • +1

Same. Amazon.com.au is overpriced for almost everything - eBay is much cheaper and better variety. Don't understand why everyone on here is raving on about it when the consensus has been quite the opposite on Ozbargain. Have had Amazon Prime as I got the annual membership for 50% off back in October but have barely used it. Meanwhile I've bought so many things off eBay thanks to the regular sales they have on there (SSDs and other random tech).

    • Grocery shopping

    • Games, drinks, cheap items. I mostly use it for the free shipping on any item regardless of cost.

      • regardless of cost?

Why do you come on Ozbargain if you shop regardless of cost?

        • Time is also a valuable commodity.

          • @Skinnerr: if thats the case dont come on ozbargain to look for bargains, just buy what you need/want whenever you want, dont think, wasting time.

            • @cloudy: Whoah, chill the hostility. I never said waste all your money if it saves time. There is a balance to be weighed into account.

Getting the absolute rock bottom price while dealing with the pitfalls of shopping in-store and in person vs paying a bit of extra $$ to avoid all that is worth it to some people.

It's not always about penny pinching the best price ever, different people have different needs/wants and paying for convenience at a good price can be a great time saving investment.

This is also ignoring all of Amazons popular deals that frequently get posted too.

      • +1

I meant you pay for shipping without Prime on any item under $49. With Prime you can get any item, regardless of cost, with free shipping. For example, if I need a $5 item then I can just grab it from Amazon with free shipping.

        • +3

          I got a $2 toothbrush shipped for free 😁

    • Video games, toiletries, food, electronics.

  • +2

Cash back and delivers direct to my door….it's hard to go past.

I think I'm going to end up paying $59 for the year

  • Can someone please confirm for me - is the $59/year a temporary deal or the regular, ongoing price? I'm new to Prime and just started my trial, but don't want to miss the good yearly price if it's a limited time thing. Thank you :)

    • +1

Not sure anyone can confirm, it’s never been anything but $59

      • I just spoke to the chat and they have told me the price is not promotional and is $59 annual

        Which makes sense because 12 * $4.99 is $49.88

Technically cheaper to pay month by month at $4.99

BUT once it goes up to $6.99 if you times that by 12 = $83.88

It makes sense that annual would remind at $59 because if not, what would the incentive be to lock in for 12 months when it's only a $23 saving currently, I doubt they would offer annual memberships for say $69 (a $10 saving)

        • 12 * $4.99 is actually $59.88, so it was cheaper to pay annually even at the promo price of $4.99

          • +1

@zootv: sorry that was a typo, I was in a rush and now I can't edit because you replied.

But you are correct by $0.88 cents, I would say not committing to 12 months of prime after how bad their launch was in Australia was worth the extra $0.88 cents if you could pay that rate for the full 12 months, now it has proved to have some value it is worth $59.

  • +1

    Thanks, OP for the reminder!

  • +2

The amount I’ve bought from Amazon AU the past couple of months is crazy. I have saved on shipping costs alone. Let alone the fact I watch Prime video regularly (Seinfeld and Grand Tour mostly) along with Twitch Prime and Amazon Music…
Great service with competitive pricing vs brick and mortar. (Yes I do still buy from competitors so they don’t disappear)
Thanks for reminding me to switch to annual.

    • "I have saved on shipping costs alone"

I have saved on shipping costs too, and goods, since haven't bought anything :)

  • If I have different account, could I still sign up to the trial?

  • Is the amazon prime charge to a credit card seen as an Australian or foreign transaction?

    • Australian based on previous transactions

  • +2

What is the recommendation for new subscriber? Join on free trial and pay annual fee immediately or it will still be $59 annual fee at the end of trial?

  • thanks changed to yearly i think they are gonna get a lot of money in one hit now.

  • How good is the Australian Prime video library compared to the US one? Just renewed the latter for another year but am considering canceling it after this year due to the increased price

  • Does amazon australia prime give access to videos/music from Amazon US etc ?? When i go to amazon.com -> prime videos i seem to see the same videos as australia!!
Also, A friend has Amazon India and she seems to have the same movies as Australia Amazon Prime videos

  • Does this deal give you full access to Amazon music that you get when you first connect a amazon echo dot?

  • I'm thinking to cancel my current monthly one which ends tomorrow. Then, re-subscribing when i actually have time to watch videos and do some shopping again. Will I miss out the $59/yr offer?

  • +1

Thanks OP - I checked and I was renewing soon via monthly - switched to annual

  • So if i try for 30 days and decide to keep the subscription going, do I still get the $59/year deal or do I miss out because the last day is the 31st?

  • Its not letting me change to yearly sub, anyone else getting this issue?

    • Are you an existing prime user?

      • yes it says its a "technical error" - red warning comes up. card is valid and has enough $$$ on it for the $59 sub too.

    • When you are at the try prime page, scroll down until you see "See other Plans" at the top of the page. Click the downward arrow and you can select the $59/year plan.

  • +1

Still Active, just swapped from monthly to $59 for a year. Payment processed $59.00.

  • +1

Can confirm still active, just signed up using OP instructions and went through no hitch.

It stacks on top of the free trial! (13 months for AUD$59)

    • +2

I think what expired is the $4.99 per month offer.

      • +2

Ah! True enough. My bad. Excellent deal nonetheless!
