Free 90 Day eBay Plus Trial

6182

It appears that the Free 90 Day Trial of eBay Plus is back. This is not targeted, unlike the previous 6 Month Free Trial.

Easter 2019 Promotion – Free 90-day trial

The terms in this section 8 apply if you sign up for a free trial of eBay Plus for the first time between 8 April 2019 and 30 April 2019 (“90-day trial Offer Period”).

eBay users who have previously cancelled or completed their eBay Plus free trial and are no longer a member of eBay Plus can re-join as a paid member via the link

By signing up for a free trial of eBay Plus during the 90-day trial Offer Period then you agree to be subject to these eBay Plus Terms and Conditions as amended as follows:

All references to “30-day trial” are replaced with the words “90-day trial” throughout.

If you cancel your eBay Plus membership during the 90-day trial period, you will incur no fees or other charges for the membership. You will continue to receive all eBay Plus benefits until 30 days after you initially signed up for eBay Plus, at which time your eBay Plus membership will end.

All other terms in these eBay Plus terms and conditions remain unchanged and applicable.

eBay Plus cops a lot of hate, but I have personally found it very useful. Don’t forget you can disable the automatic payment via PayPal to avoid any future charges.

Please note: This promotion is for accounts that have never before received a free trial of eBay Plus. If you try to sign up using an account that has previously received a free trial, you will most likely be charged the annual fee ($49), as per the terms.

For those that are getting the "Unfortunately this promotional offer isn't available to you" message, try signing out of eBay, then whilst you are signed out, click Activate Offer from the promotional page. It'll ask you to sign in, and after you do, you can specify you payment method for when the trial finishes and then complete the sign up for eBay plus.

  • Excellent. I signed up last time they've had the 90 day free trial, and I was still able to sign up for the trial. For me, this now makes it 210 days of free trials with ebay plus without giving them a cent.

    • 210 x 0 is still zero. I'll sign up again, just in case… :P

  • Cheers Op!

Signed up and cancelled straight away.. 90 day membership ends 8th July 2019!

As mentioned previously, initially it says 30 day trial but once you click in, it changes to 90 days..

  • +3

Clearly struggling concept, had multiple freebies, except never used it. Guess makes their user numbers look up temporarily

    • +2

      I think you're right.

I'm pretty sure vendors have to pay for the Ebay Plus 'privilege' of being listed as an exclusive sale for members only. And the only way to encourage vendors to pay is to show them thousands of people who are members.

If the concept isn't popular, what vendor is going to pay for it?
At least this way, they greatly boost their subscriber number albeit temporarily. Foxtel does the same.

  • Free is free =D

I guess the value in this isn't as good for everyone, but still has its place especially for "uncertain" or "change of mind" shoppers. Most value I got from the membership was able to wrong-model/change-of-mind return two (or three?) purchases (of course the items were unopened nor used), and with eBay taking care of the shipping fees and guaranteed full refund.

    Thanks for posting OP.

    • Paypal offers the same and is free. Therefore, no value from ebay (especially if paying a membership fee).

      • Yea, but that's only for shipping, but doesn't include the return request on eBay will be approved right (ie that the seller can refuse the refund of the purchase)?

        • Could be. Most ebay claims are BS excuses where someone didn't pay for insurance/tracking and it got.. shock.. lost or damaged. Rather than change of mind. So I don't know.

  • Ends at the end of April according to the terms and conditions.

  • Sweet. Maybe I'll actually get some benefit out of it this time. Thanks OP, giving it a shot.

  • Got it, thanks OP

  • Just beware the freeshipping is only for certain merchant. So for me its useless as virtually all sellers i use have free shipping already and the one that does charge are not ebayplus valid lol

    Easter 2019 Promotion – Free 90-day trial

  • Thanks, just signed up and cancelled the automatic payments

  • It looks as though you still have to remember to cancel.

    YOUR CONTINUING OBLIGATION

If payment of Authorized Amounts cannot be completed for any reason or this billing agreement is cancelled, you remain obligated to pay eBay for all unpaid amounts and eBay reserves the right to seek reimbursement through other means.

    • That's true. Cancelling PayPal recurring payments is not enough. You still have to cancel via ebay.

      • +2

        Did both :)

  • Cheers OP :)

  • Thanks OP. I have signed up similar deal last time but I can still try free trial.

  • Cheers op. Looks like it extends ontop of the last one (currently have 91 days of eBay plus membership)

  • +1

Unfortunately it is currently not possible to sign up for eBay Plus due to technical difficulties. Please try again later.

    Anyone else?

    • It just worked for me, I got a 91 day trial, and I had just finished the 30 day trial a week or so ago.

  • now what i need is 3 months Netflix trial

  • Decent deal but I'd rather wait in case they have another sign up deal with another 15% off code, or something like that.

  • Signed up and did all the cancelation dance. Thanks OP!

  • -4

Cant believe people still dont have ebayplus after all these years of promo

  • So in theory if I join eBay plus and cancel straight away I will still have eBay Plus for 90days with out being charged a cent?

    • Join and cancel right away, still have the ebay plus valid for 90 days. No $$ charged.
Did the same and so will the 99% of the people in ozbargain will do.

    • +1

So in theory practice if I join eBay plus…

    • 30 days - if you're talking about cancelling ebay plus.

      • This doesn't sound accurate from reading the comments above and below but the fine print stated otherwise, so you maybe correct.

  • thanks op. the previous free period just ended couple of weeks before and was able to sign up again.

  • Being an impulsive buyer, this "free" trial won't be actually free for me at the end. Need to resist buying more toys.

  • +3

People who paid for the subscription must be angry at eBay for giving them out for free.

  • +1

Unfortunately it is currently not possible to sign up for eBay Plus due to technical difficulties. Please try again later.

    • I just needed to add a different payment method and it worked (even though the old payment method is still valid)

  • This is the 3rd free trial I take on my account making it a full year in total of free plus (2 three months and one six month)

However, I never paid a cent for it and never will. It simply doesn't stack up.

Throw in free Stan and maybe I'll reconsider

  • Thanks. Grabbed and cancelled membership

  • I got 1 year when Plus first launched, after a 30 day trial. I don't think it will expire in time before I can sign up for this.

I have to say it's been pretty lackluster. At least Amazon Prime gives you access to streaming and Twitch Prime. They give free shipping also. Ebay does this but for select items only. The result is, you see shipping charges for non-plus members at sellers who don't normally charge shipping. Buying Plus, you didn't gain anything. Others just lost something.

  • i seem to be the only one that got charged for this when i signed up through the trial… :(

    • Contact feeBay CSR and get it reversed/refunded.

      • doing that right now, hopefully i get it back. I've signed up to a trial in the past but that seems to be the case for everyone else too

      • You need to call instead of email or online chat. Online CS simply ask you to read the T&C and refuse to refund.

        • i gave them a ring and they initially refused. but they seemed to relent after i asked again nicely :) just have to wait until the ebay bill is generated and theyll automatically refund me after that.

          • @tobi3421: they refused me too, I cancel the subscription right away and also lodge a transaction dispute through paypal and got my money back!

  • Thanks OP! Might save heaps on those year end promotions :-)

  • Thanks OP!

I cancelled the recurring subscription from Paypal after I linked my account, but before I pressed "Sign Up Now".

Seemed to have worked on my account where I had a previous trial. Good to have, even if all my purchases are done with free shipping already

  • My previous 90 day trial ended about a month ago, was able to sign up for trial again. I didn't get much benefit last time except extra Flybuys points, definitely not enough to get me to pay. Still, happy to get it free, see how it goes this time.
By comparison, I purchased full year of Amazon Prime with $30 back from an Amex promo and love it, enough to pay for another year.

  • Now would be a great time for eBay to launch some real eBay Plus deals again, to get the promotion off and running.

Maybe some eBay or Paypal vouchers on discount that they can send to us electronically :D

  • +1

Thanks OP worked for me too!

Now we just need some "Easter20" 20% off codes :)

    • I just got a 15% off $75+ spent in my account. So check you accounts folks.

  • They really need something added to this subscription like a new genuine, relavant product heavily discounted everyday. Currently this is the dead elephant in the room of online marketplace subscriptions.

  • As stated by most, just signed up for ebayPlus with either PayPal or Credit/Debit. This must be done first & you can literally cancel subscription immediately. You will still enjoy the 90 days trials. Good thing abt this method is that you will not forget abt cancelling the subscription & if not, you will be charged the fee of $49.

  • +2

    didn't work for me :-(

    • +2

Same for me, gave error but got email that I have signed up @ 90 days, which I can see in ebay account as well.

      • it worked on my other account :-)

  • +2

"Unfortunately, this promotional offer isn't available to you" - have never signed up to eBay Plus or used a promotional offer for it

    • +1

      same for me- not available

      • +1

        same here

  • +2

Unfortunately, this promotional offer isn't available to you.

    Anybody else getting this?

  • +1

“Unfortunately this promotional offer isn’t available to you”

  • +2

For those that are getting the "Unfortunately this promotional offer isn't available to you" message, try signing out of eBay, then whilst you are signed out, click Activate Offer from the promotional page. It'll ask you to sign in, and after you do, you can specify you payment method for when the trial finishes and then complete the sign up for eBay plus.

I had the same error message but after doing these steps I was able sign up for it.

    • Legend, post updated.

      • -3

If I see one more person use the word 'legend' I will scream!!!

  • I got this message : "Sorry, this program is currently only available for users registered on ebay.com.au and whose billing currency is Australian Dollar", my account has been set up as Ebay.com 15 years ago before I moved to Australia then I called up to change region to , not sure why i still get this message

  • Everyone in this thread: https://imgur.com/a/inGhUDI

Subscribing then cancelling 1 minute later.

  • +3

I subscribed and cancelled, but eBay Plus says that my membership ends next year.
It doesn't look like I have been charged though on my PayPal (I have cancelled recurring payments on there).
    Did I do something wrong?
EDIT: Just got an email to say my payment has been declined.
    Guess I'm not eligible?

  • +2

I just activated the offer and got charged 1 year $48.99, cancelled straight away but invoice still shows 48.99, what clickbait practice…. how do i get my money back or fix this?

    • Also got charged. called them and they declined to refund payment

  • I clicked through the promo link and signed up. Cancelled the PayPal auto payment straight away and received an email about 2 hours later saying payment couldn’t be processed and my eBay plus is now cancelled. Looks like the three months promo isn’t working properly anymore, especially if people aren’t getting refunds.

    • Had you used plus before?

I can see them fixing things to be like the terms that you won't get an extra trial if you've had it before. But if the promo is up, it should still work if you're a new user. If so, just contact support.

      • Have never used it before. Contacted them via chat and was told they’d have to get back to me. Meh

        • Weird, my 30d trial expired yesterday, and tried my luck on the 90d, worked and cancelled auto payment straight away. Free trial was still working this morning so I guess I'm good for the next 3 months :-)

  • I am now a trial ebay plus member, why am I still charged for postage? Does free postage only apply to eBay plus seller?

    • Postage should disappear once you reach the check out page. It may then be displayed for each items but waived on the grand total.
Source: I topped up my initial 30d free trial to 90d free trial yesterday and bought some items from Myer ebay right this morning :-)

      • Just paid for a local item and charged for postage $14.5. I was told by eBay support, it needs to be eBay Plus item before the postage is covered. That means more than 90% of the eBay item is not covered by the membership.

        • This is why you should understand what a post is actually offering before +'ing it.

          • @ssquid: Thanks for Op on the trial. Now I know what the "+" membership is worth.

  • I know I've tried eBay Plus before, I just don't know if I'm still a member.
Where is the eBay Plus status shown in the My eBay page?
I don't have any PayPal auto payment active.

  • +2

Please do not sign up with the free trial. I have just charged for a yearly fee even though; I have not signed up ebay plus in the past.
    Same on you ebay!
Now I need to claim it back.

    • +3

Update: I logged a case to get a refund. They have acknowledged that it is a system error and they are trying to fix it. No ETA at the moment can be a few weeks
I hope they refund the membership fee. Same on you ebay!

      • You mean "shame on you".

    • -2

What does this have to do with the deal? You probably signed up for a trial and forgot to cancel it.

    • same happened to me when i signed up today, i even asked through chat on ebay if i would get charged, they said i wouldn't and then i got charged after i signed up. contacted them and they said it was a system error and would add my account to a list of others and it would get resolved (whenever that is).
i have never used ebay plus or signed up for a trial. my account says i will be charged the annual fee on april 2020 so it didn't sign me up for free trial lol

  • I forgot to cancel my subscription and got charged, serve me right!
So I thought ok, I'll keep this and try to Do some shopping.
However, I haven't found a way to filter and search only EBay Plus items. And Free Postage is not the same.
    Any help please?

    • You can filter for Plus listings on the left of the page, or use this link changing the search term to suit.

You may need to log out or use incognito to see which listings actually have a postage charge in the first place.

  • +1

They're hoping people sign up and forget to cancel, tbh useless service… Prime is way better.

    • +1

      I agree. I haven't used it once.

Are there any groceries/snacks worth buying on Plus?

  • Am surprised that there’s still someone here who hasn’t sign up this yet.

    • Well, those are the smart / discipline people. Ended up buying more toys / gadgets after signing up so not looking forward to the credit card bill in a week's time.

      • yeah i mean, the votes lol, judging by that they all signed up by now!

I won't vote a positive because I already got it.

  • +1

Just signed up and cancelled immediately.the membership is shown as valid for bh 90 days, wasn't charged anything.
    Thanks OP

  • Just open a bunch of accounts and use & cancel the free trial whenever it suits you

  • i encourage everyone who signed up for the 3 month trial to check their paypal accounts if used to see if they were charged. also check your end date for the trial it might say 2020 indicating it's not a trial. i signed up for the trial and got charged and have never used ebay plus. they've told me it's a system error

    • +1

I spoke to customer service 3 times. This was the message I got from eBay (see below). I’m apparently in the list of affected customers as well. Can’t see to get my refund. They are reluctant. According to the eBay marketing team, this is the best resolution they have for their customers at the moment. I have insisted that I am not going to spend $150 and will not use this voucher as well. eBay is a scam!

      Dear eBay Plus member,

We are contacting you because you recently signed up for a $49 paid membership of eBay Plus however did not take advantage of the Free Trial offer.

As a courtesy for joining the eBay Plus program, you will be provided with a $49 coupon to cover the cost of the first year of your eBay Plus membership. This coupon will be available for use on purchases of $150 or more. The coupon, applicable code and the terms and conditions for its use, will be found in your My eBay dashboard from May 6th.

Enjoy the benefits of your new eBay Plus membership:
      • Free delivery on millions of eBay Plus items
      • Free returns on all eBay Plus items
      • Double flybuys points
      • Free delivery to select metro areas on orders over $49 with Coles on eBay (https://www.ebay.com.au/coles)
      • Access to exclusive offers and deals
      • Premium customer support

For more information about eBay Plus visit https://www.ebay.com.au/plus.

      Thank you,
      The eBay Plus Team.

      • that's just pathetic, you have to spend $150 to use a voucher that covers the cost of the subscription, i would find it hard to spend that much in 1 go. so you have to spend more money to get your money back? it would probably only be applicable to products in aus and not international.
the best resolution would be for them to just cancel the subscription or manualy change it to the trial time and five me my money back.
if they pull this crap with me i'm gonna get paypal involved, if need to go higher, consumer affairs.

        • Yup. Spend $150 to cover the “trial” I signed up for but got charged. They don’t want to refund me but think that a voucher is the best way to resolve this issue for all affected customers. I Guess it’s only for Australian customers. But I don’t want to buy more stuff. I’m still waiting for a reply from them. If I don’t hear from them soon, yes. Consumer affairs is my best bet.
