All existing PlayStation Network members will be able to access the following from PlayStation Store*:

Two PS3 games from the following list:

  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Infamous*
  • Wipeout HD/Fury
  • Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
  • Dead Nation*

For those with PSP accounts, you will also be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list:

  • LittleBigPlanet PSP
  • ModNation PSP
  • Pursuit Force
  • Killzone Liberation*

  • 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PS Plus subscribers*

  • Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will be given 60 days free subscription.
  • For existing Music Unlimited subscribers, you will be given 30 days free subscription.
  • We are working on a Welcome Back offer in PlayStation Home and will share that when it is confirmed.

I would like to thank all of the developers and publishers involved in this programme for their support in making this happen. We certainly couldn’t have done it without you.

You will be able to access this content once PlayStation Store comes back online and we are doing everything we can to make that happen as soon as possible.

Thank you for your support and keep checking back on the blog for more information.

  1. For eligibility for the welcome back programme consumers must be an account holder on 20 April 2011. Specific details about these offers and eligibility requirements will be posted as the services go live. Why is this even on here?

  • -1

All existing users does not equal to all users.

If I sign up now, I cannot get those free games.

      • +6

Bought a PS3 a month ago and haven't been able to create a PSN account for the entire time!
All PSN accounts, whether new or old are affected. You can only use the "sorry present" if you have Sony gear, so it's not like people who aren't Sony customers are benefiting…

    • OP updated the title to avoid confusion.

Even if they offerred new users the same deal, I wouldn't sign up for PSN or PSP account.

  • -5

This isn't a bargain. It's compensation for existing customers. -1

    • -5

just trying to stave off a class action. don't fall for it.

      • +4

Honestly, I'm not fussed. I haven't been one to complain about the outage.

I'm happy with what Sony has done, I'm happy that the PSN has super duper security now (well, by assumption, they better have) and we are now getting free games from a free service that was hacked by Mod: Foul Language .

I'm just saying it doesn't belong here, because it's not applicable to everyone, and those who are will have received an email from PSN about it. Therefore, this is misleading.

And FYI, anyone who registered after 20th April will not receive these freebies.

        • +3

They don't have good security. Better, sure, but not by much. Yet.

The Japanese government refused to allow PSN back online in Japan (didn't know they could do that, but read the thread on xtremesystems). Sony gave vague excuses about how things were improved, the government was smart enough to tell them to keep their excuses and shove it.

The rest of the world, however, said "Dandy! Now come on Sony, let's do some lines!!"

        • +1

Did everyone receive an email from PSN about this? I didn't get an email…

  • +1

This is a bargain - hard to believe negs for free games….

    • -6

The games are only free for 30 days.

      From the third note:
"…Access to the free games and exclusive features finishes at the end of the 30-day subscription period…."

Nowhere does it say Sony are giving away two free games for users to keep forever.

      • +1

Pretty sure they are free to keep, just you have 30 days to make the redemption.

      • +1

No that's for stuff on Playstation plus.. the free games are yours to keep. Anything free on PS+ will end at the end of your free subscription period.

    • +3

They aren't really free in many peoples opinions, rather compensation for a service they use not to mention the enormous privacy and security breach that Sony has performed. Even if you do change all your passwords (if you use a common one - and that could take hours) theres still now a massive potential for identity theft.

Also remember there are users that pay for PSN+ not to mention many feel they've paid for the service when they bought a PlayStation to begin with. If you really wanted the games theres a good chance you had them already anyway so to those users the downtime may be worse than the compensation for it.

Not saying its not a nice gesture, but it isn't exactly hard to see why people may be pissed or feel this isn't a bargain at all either.

    • +1

I think people are giving it negatives because it is hardly something no one knew about… Anyone with a PSN account got an e-mail detailing this

      • clearly, not everyone did…..

  • +9

why would you even download the games if you didn't have a PS3 and PSP and if you own one of these, you would have created an account anyways. Bargain for those with a PSN account.

For people who are negging, just because you can't take advantage of it doesn't mean it is not a bargain

  • Is there a limited number of just everyone by a certain date?

    Edit - 30 days

  • -4

Yeah, sorry. This is not a bargain. I was hit by the issue and am now constantly having to check my credit card transactions to ensure that nothing illegitimate appears.

Sony gave away my personal info including my residential address. I feel very exposed as a result.

Are 2 free games compensation? Are they a bargain? HELL NO!!!

    No bargain!

    • +3

Agreed. Compensation and free are 2 different things.

    • +1

be careful, the T&C may have something hidden there to take away your rights for legal Compensation later if it comes.

      • +2

This is a good point.. Read the T&C carefully before signing onto this!

      • Um… Moron?! I don't appreciate a personal attack but since you don't understand my comment, I can dumb it down for you.

I was referring to Sony's lousy security. They essentially 'gave away' their data by allowing themselves to be attacked by criminals.

        Does it make sense now?

        • -8

No it does not. Care to explain how to get through that lousy security? No thought not.
Also your residential address, name and phone number can be easily found online without going through the trouble of hacking a secure database. This was not done for those details, it was either for the CC details (which were encrypted) or to disrupt the PSN as an act of revenge for the whole Geohot/Sony thing.
Back to your cave now troll.

        • +7

Not trying to defend Sony as my PSN account was also affected, but if your house is robbed, are the police going to tell you that it was your fault for not having enough security?

Otherwise, I agree that this isn't a bargain at all. I'm grateful for the free games, but in the end it's compensation and Sony knows that.

        • +1

I was effected by this outage too but I agree that unless you have been super concious about who you give your details to you are already on some mailing lists somewhere which would be a lot easier to access than hacking into PSN.
As for the credit-card. Why don't you get it replaced if you are so paranoid? The credit card companies have been monitoring fraud claims and have said there has been no increase in claims since the attack.

    • +4

I check my credit card balance daily even before this. With atm skimmer machines, and other scams etc out there it's negligent not to spend 3 mins a day checking the balance on your credit card, especially if you can spend 3 mins on a site like ozbargain.

      • You have a month to report it. I check weekly but I guess if you are a heavy user of the card then daily may be easier to handle.

        • Mine is 24hours. And I took that as standard across all cards.

Interested to hear feedback from other ozbargainers on what their card is like.

    • +2

its so hard to call your bank and say "i registered on sony ps3 with my credit card what do i do?"
bank will say "oh we dont want unnecessary fraud claims, how about we issue a new card at no charge?"
and you say "no worries !" , this took me less thant 3 minutes !

    • +2

sony did not give away your personal info, research the matter before you embarrass yourself next time

  • +1

Agreed to those who were affected. I doubt 2 free games makes up for the loss of credit card information.

    • +16

      Here's my version of events:

I had my cc details on PSN

      Criminals stole encrypted cc details

I called st George for free

I cancelled my card to be cautious

St George sent me a new card free of charge within 3 days

Sony repaired PSN and made security better

I play on PSN for free again

Sony give me four free games, 2 months of free plus sub and god knows what else

      Yeah, works for me…

  • +1

Should be in forums. Anyonr with a psn account would know the outage and follow the news

    • not everyone plays online, all the time, psn isnt a subscription service so people can play when they want

      • +2

They would realise it when their psn account can't log in. There is a pop up on the right corner…

        • again not everyone plays online, I have a PSP and I have a account but never use except for FW updates. So Win-win situation for me

        • you do know you have to click log in for the message to come up right? how do you expect everyone to know whats going on from a random error code? smh

  • Yeah the free games don't cover the few hours I spent on the phone to my bank cancelling my credit card. During the few weeks I was waiting for the replacement I missed a few good bargains.

Still I made the right choice to cancel my card before seeing my money stolen.

I am giving a neg for 2 reasons:

    1) These free games are only available to people that were registered on the PSN network before the incident and advertising here will not allow people to register for free games.

    2) As pixelaté says this is not a bargain as the added stress of having to check their bank accounts constantly each PSN user have paid for these games in stress and if I had the choice I would have gladly parted with my money.

That said cibailang, thankyou for thinking of us and I know you meant well.

    • +1

I'd look for a new bank if I were you, it took literally 3 minutes on the phone to St George to cancel and 3 days to receive, I still had paypal and cash for those few days though so I wasnt too put out.

Seriously 3 weeks is total BS, you need to name and shame that bank.

      • few hours? you trolling or something?

    • +3

You do your banking with Vodafone customer service?

  • +4

All I can say is that..if you don't like it..dont take it..
Nobody's putting a gun in your head to download the games anyway..the games offered are pretty decent.
The reason I put this here is to ensure the public( PSN and PSP users) gets their "compensation" (using the term rather loosely) before Sony takes it down (which is in 30 days).
I am affected as well but I'm glad Sony is doing something about it rather than nothing( hence my remark on "compensation")

As for me, I will continue using the PSN as it is a free service. If you don't like it, don't use it. I was rather ecstatic about the fact that PSN is back online and now I can go back to my Super Street Fight IV online and on top of that, they're giving free games for their comeback.

I agree this is a marketing gimmick on their end but I know for one I'll definitely be downloading
Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty and Infamous.

Please bear in mind, this post is about the games(some might like to call it compensation) Sony is offering its users for free.
To the people -ing this, I guess what you're saying is that you wouldn't be downloading it as it's such a bad deal. :) Your choice. But I reckon something for nothing ( nothing here implies to the fact that Sony does NOT need to compensate..just so that this is clear to the people talking bout losing their cc info) is pretty awesome IMO.

    • +1

Just because people are saying this isn't a bargain doesn't mean they won't take advantage of the offer to make up for the PSN downtime.

      • you didnt read the terms and conditions did you?

    • +1

We aren't voting negatively because Sony's done the wrong thing, we're voting the POST down because it simply isn't supposed to even be here. Doesn't make sense.

      • we're voting the POST down because it simply isn't supposed to even be here

So use the 'report' button….. that's what it's there for

      • +4

agree, doesn't belong here at all. And not a bargain.

    • -2

SONY SHOULDN'T GIVE US FREE STUFF, SONY SHOULDN'T EVEN GIVE US THE FREE PSN, SONY OWE US BUT SHOULDN'T GIVE US ANYTHING.

  • i think ppl who cant even make a call to their banks to get a new credit card at free cost are ………
like seriously it doesnt take that long , and stuff happens , so get on with it princess !

    • +1

How do these people even manage to get a cc in the first place?!?!?

      • The banks have web forms to apply.

    • Free - My bank charged me $15 and I assume for most people it cost them $15!

  • Of course….. what the neggers don't know, (or don't care), about… is that their negs will ensure the post disappears from the view of most Ozbargain users….. Meaning that some may miss out on this

    • +1

Same arguement can be applied to any free offer. Negs remove it from view, people lose out, regardless of the deal. No one should rely on OZB to get their PSN news.

This deal is limited, is only compensation, isn't even available yet and doesn't even have a real expected date.

      • +2

No one should rely on OZB to get their PSN news.

who are you to decide this?

      • +2

dude some people may actually want these games, negging sony is another thing but negging free games is not.
I might not compensate for people who lost their personal info but since I(i'm sure there are others like me) don't buy from the PS store, it is a free game for me!

        • negging not because we don't want these games but because it only valid for a select group (like me) who had their psn account before april 20th. Also those who are affect would already know since the whole sony issues on mainstream media as well.

        • @uraha

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

          It explicitly states that

          No Vote

If the deal doesn't apply to you, you don't like the company, you want to leave a warning for people about the business or deal, you might want to leave a comment and then not vote.

        • @ uraha

"those who are affect would already know since the whole sony issues on mainstream media as well."

I watch the news regularly, and I did not know of this, I found out about this from this post.

Other than that, I got an email regarding it only today.

  • I don't know what PS Plus is but will my free game expire after 30 days? Deal if I can keep playing it after 30 days!!!

    • -1

you will lose only then things that come from being a ps plus member when your 30 days expire

    • Yes you can keep it for ever after you download it.
PS Plus is the premium service. Offers discounts in the store and some other not so interesting things.

      • Sweet! Thanks. I think the mods should leave it up here for those that are unaware.

  • +2

    1) They're old games.
    2) You have to download them. Not everyone wants to download multiple Gb for an old game.
    3) This is supposedly 'compensation' for a massive security flaw, poor crisis management and 4 weeks of service outage. How is telling you to come back and patronise there very source of the problem any kind of compensation? Well I guess it's compensation for Sony but not for the customer.

    NO DEAL

    • +1

Most importantly, the offer is only valid for people with accounts before 20th April. That's pretty much admitting that it's not compensation at all for the service being unavailable - if you bought a PS3 recently expecting online play, too bad. Unavailability is not compensated.

So the ONLY thing this is compensating for is the security hole and mismanagement of the whole incident.

      • +13

Why would you buy a PS3 expecting to play it on-line during the outage? God people are whiny little bitches.

      • smh at the complete ignorance of both your posts

    • +3

Why am I not surprised to see you neg a deal.

  • +5

not a bargain - Compensation for a limited class

  • +2

Thanks for the post - ignore the haters..

  • I wouldnt have even thought to check the forums for this. Thanks heaps OP this is a good one IMO :)

    • Agreed. Thanks for posting OP

  • +5

I seriously don't understand why people have such an issue with this being on the front page. It may not be available to everyone but there are plenty of deals posted with the same kind of limitations for example the huge amount of eastern state only deals I miss out on. I don't go crying about them.

  • +1

I bought a ps3 3 week ago, tried to get a psn account at that time, couldnot play online which is one of the most important features for 3 weeks, and I get nothing now?

    • +1

It's called watching the news. If you hadn't had the PS3 delivered to your cave you would have noticed the news of PSN being down everywhere.

      • too bad, they didn't deliver the news to a CAVE on time either. Anyway, i wouldn't make any difference if i read the news, would i?

      • So you expected the PSN to be down for 26 days (and more) Tilduke?
Most people and pundits expected it to be down for a few days. A week at most!
Why is it unreasonable to offer this deal to new owners who have been just as affected (arguably more so) as the old customers?

  • +10

    cheers

anyone who votes -ve are xbox fanbois

    runs away

  • OK so I am not up to date with games except EA sports and RDR.

Can I get ppl's opinion of best games to choose.

Deadnation and Infamous sound like the best choices for me.

Is Wipeout HD the same as the old skool Wipeout game (I think there was a game anyway with like hovercrafts racing or something)? Any good

  • Skids et al,
Have a look at http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/consolidated_rules?s[]=help&s[]=posting before posting your comments.

    Ferretallica,
The point is that it's Free for EXISTING users.

  • +4

I dont see the big deal, people post freebies all the time that are limited to certain criteria. A classic is the free coke give aways that were limited to certain suburbs and locations and not Australia wide.

This is no different, this is limited to existing users and is a freebie. Just think about it and review your neg if you have done so :P

  • Poor selection of games, I was expecting more.

  • +3

The Playstation Store isn't up yet and no hint has being made when it will go up besides a vague May 31st date. Even then how do we know it will be up before or on May 31st? Why is this even on Ozbargain?

As others have said this is compensation, not a bargain.

  • +1

its like those -ve iphone deals cause they dont like apple
    yes sony had issues
but as a deal with freebies (like when u get freebies scales, wipes etc) this is free
    cant argue with freebies

  • +3

Thanks for the post, keeps me in the loop of what's going on? We don't all have time to trawl the forums.

    • +2

They see me trolling, they hating, you know it's cos I'm white and nerdy.

    • +5

      What a stupid contribution

      • i believe it's a weird al reference, pretty funy song youtube it! (white and nerdy)

  • +1

Wouldn't have seen this because the email address is my fiance's account and he didn't know anything about it, thanks for the heads up OP :)

  • +7

    "Once we restore PlayStation Store"

Wouldn't this be a lot more useful if posted when the store is back online and we can actually download the games?!

  • Mispost!

  • +2

If you are worried about your credit card, call up your bank to get a new one.

If you are worried about your address, don't you receive mail in the post? What's wrong with letting people know where you live? Many people give out their address for a pack of tissue sample. If you are so paranoid get a PO box.

People make mistakes, learn to deal with it and move on.

  • +7

    'Compensation' is NOT a bargain!

  • lucky i nv purschased anything on psn..

but pity the games r kinda old

  • +2

Why are people complaining about SONY on this site ? and if you don't wanna take it…then by all means Don't
