  • 30 days free PlayStation Plus membership for non PS Plus subscribers*

  • Existing PlayStation Plus subscribers will be given 60 days free subscription.
  • For existing Music Unlimited subscribers, you will be given 30 days free subscription.
  • We are working on a Welcome Back offer in PlayStation Home and will share that when it is confirmed.

I would like to thank all of the developers and publishers involved in this programme for their support in making this happen. We certainly couldn’t have done it without you.

You will be able to access this content once PlayStation Store comes back online and we are doing everything we can to make that happen as soon as possible.

Thank you for your support and keep checking back on the blog for more information.

  1. For eligibility for the welcome back programme consumers must be an account holder on 20 April 2011. cos thier selfish badass keyboard warriors, thats why..

My birthdate is 01/01/1900 and I live in 123 yousuck st and my phone number is 123456789 .. so my personal data are rather worthless anyway for hacker .. but if you take up this COMPENSATION (NOT Freebie), you agree to give up your rights to either sue or joining the class action against Sony.

    • +1

Do you know that as a fact? Is it a condition on taking up this offer that your right to pursue compensation is in anyway hindered or void?

    • If this "forfeiture of rights" thing is true then its then I guess it is up to the individual to work out how much those rights are actually worth to themselves and then compare it to the prices of the games and services offered in exchange around the usual places.

Good meaty discussion to be had in this submission anyway.

  • +5

Is anybody actually going to sue or join a class action against Sony? I mean really, come on.

  • -1

Conpensation is your opinion of this deal.
Sony don't have to offer you anything.

If they released this deal before the whole fiasco or a few months later when everyone would have forgotten about it, it would be considered a bargain.

    • +2

This being compensation really isn't an opinion, its what it is. If they had released it at a different time or under different circumstances then it would have been different, but they didn't. Even the tone of the release implies compensation.

  • +7

I'd like my identity back rather than a few overpriced electronic items.

    • +4

I mainly lose my keys but I can see how bad it would be to lose your identity my thaughts are with you im sorry for loss

  • +3

Yeah, they're offering crappy games because their 'superior' network got hacked and a fair few credit card details were stolen.
I can't wait for it to be hacked again.

  • +7

    post this @OZCompensation?

    • Couldn't have said it better myself. Not a bargain.

  • +1

An important thing to consider if your credit/debit card details are held by sony.

A bank does have the option to deny responsibility/or refund of any fraudulent credit card purchases if they can prove that you were aware there was a reasonable chance your credit card details were compromised and did nothing about it. I'm not saying they definetly would however.I would urge you to call your financial institution and ask them about it if you have not done so already

It will be in the information brochures supplied to you by your bank when you signed up for your accounts/cards

As somone who works within a bank, I can tell you that all staff were all informed about the sony situation - and if our bank was advised about this, then all banks were advised about this.

    • Im curious, did the banks find out before sony let its customers know?

      • Not to my knowledge, we were advised to be on the look out once the story had hit the news sites.

  • +1

WOW this is very generous of Sony, they really do know how to look after their customers. Free AAA exclusive games and an extra one month of PS+ subscription for free, what more can anyone ask. This is by far the best bargain you can get. Nothing beats free!

    • Exactly. I'm pretty sure there's a freebie section on Ozbargain? Then this is a legitimate deal.

    • This could be beaten if said offer was made even without the PSN being down and your personal details possibly compromised.

It's not free, dont be confused - its just up to you to work out how much the disruptions were worth to you

      • It is free. Nothing is going to get your leaked details back so why not take advantage of the situation and get a few free games? Seems like a pretty good deal to me. Sony could have just apologized and left it at that but they're going far and beyond to compensate it's user base.

        • Of course they had the option of going "my bad" and leaving it at that but how many of those people who were burnt by this whole episode would continue to give their hard earned money to Sony?

They are simply trying to save some face for whats probably the one of the biggest internet security breaches in history.

This offer came at a price and therefore it ain't free.

  • +1

Oh come on. Why are you voting this up? He is just advertising something that we already get. NOT A BARGAIN.

    • +1

its only a bargain if u actualyl get it. how many times have u found free stuff on here that you can easily get but were unaware of

      • So it's a bargain because the OP made me aware of something that I am already entitled to? PSN members will already know about this - Sony sent an email to us and it pops up on the PSN store.

        • -2

the bargain comes from the savings of buying the game from the playstation store

people can neg all they like if it werent a bargain, we wouldnt be posting comments about it, because it would either be unpublished or moved to the forums

        • +1

is a discount code for 10% off laptops a bargain, is giving ur email for a free pen a bargain? why point out 15c pencils at kmart, anyone can just got buy them.

i for one was unaware of receiving free stuff because of the outage.

        • +2

You just don't get it, do you? This is not a no frills bargain - it's an apology gift. ANYONE can purchase the pencils from KMart. Only people who had their accounts compromised are entitled to this gift.

Merely pointing it out does not warrant it being a bargain. Just because you were unaware does not make it a bargain.

  • +1 for SONY then? LOL…

  • Can't download them yet.
Edit: I'll plus though since I agree with Sony's generosity.
I don't really get all the hate, Sony is the real victim.

    • +3

      No, not really.

      They had lax security measures.

And if you look at them as a company they are anti-consumer:Sony CD rootkit, anti homebrew on PS3, Removal of Other OS to name a few examples.

  • Still not clear how to get it

  • gees thats pretty decent huh!!!

…if you have multiple accounts, or family members on same console, i guess you could download all 5 games

  • so good, i had an old account for the PSN for ps2 somehow…
Finally going to get a ps3 now and i should get 2 free games hopefully :)

Any ideas where(instore) to get a PS3 cheapest… im thinking Joyce Mayne or Jb Hi Fi?

  • +9

lol cant believe the whinging going on here. this site is getting ridiculous.

    • Try losing your addy, name, DOb , credit card details and see if you would be as happy

      • you may have lost it many times over…….. It's just that you actually know about this one…… :)

        • yeh i lost got my details swiped. they said they didnt take the security code or expiry date.

and this isnt the i hate psn website…. its ozbargain

  • +1

I appreciate them trying to make some form of apology. "sorry we screwed up. here have some free stuff" is better than nothing I suppose.

  • I already have vanilla Wipeout HD but have been waiting forever for the fury expansion to be on sale so haven't bought it yet. Wonder how easy it will be to just get Fury rather than download the whole thing?

Also I remember Little Big Planet is one of the few double sided blu ray games, which means it's 25 to 50 gig in size before any DLC. Be careful if you're going to download that!

  • +1

BARGAIN OF THE YEAR woo hoooooooooooooo

    • +1

      THE YEAR

      the month :P

      • +2

Love the negs coming from people who are either:
        1) already own the game
        2)dont have a ps3
        3)is a 360 fanboi
4)got their money stolen from hackers

        • +1

[afaik] So far there's been no evidence that any of the credit card details from the PSN have been used fraudulently.

        • afaik] So far there's been no evidence that any of the credit card details from the PSN have been used fraudulently.

More reason not to cry then, acting like SONY owes them something

      • bargain of the year was that Ubisoft glitch
Although this might be a good one for those fake console gamers including me
        PC FTW
        puts on flamesuit

  • Thanks for the heads up. I'm still a bit confused about whether we get the keep the games after the 30 days though. Can anyone confirm?

  • LOL…

    Solution:
Just break your PS3 to pieces, get refund on your credit card and cancel it, and while you're at it..move house too..

  • 1) Like many others here, I never knew about this deal until I saw it on the front page.

    2) Sony isn't compensating me for anything. I didn't put in my credit card details nor play on PSN and I'm sure theres many out there in the same situation.

So its a bargain for me.

    • If you didn't have an account then you aren't entitled to the deal. If you did then it wasn't your credit card details that were stolen (if you take their word for it) but rather all your other personal details including passwords and any contact details you may have added.

So they are compensating you for the same thing as everyone else (assuming you had an account).

  • I have received every cent back that I paid Sony for access to the PSN. In fact , they even reimbursed me for the 4 years access I have had thus far. Every. Single. Penny. In fact, they doubled the amount I have paid and gave it back to me.

Two free games is not compensation. It is their way of apologizing. Sure - pretty poor form to allow yourself to be hacked so badly, but let's not bust one company's balls about that when MANY have been hacked before and others have suffered 'glitches' that seriously affect people in ways other than playing games.(including google, microsoft, NAB, ANZ etc)

Yes - I missed playing Black Ops for a couple of weeks…. but I'm thinking I am now cured of my addiction to it, and can get back to shagging.

The 2 Free Games…. Yes, you get to keep them FOREVER. You lose access to PS Plus stuff (which includes some downloadable mini games) after 30 days, but as i understand it the minis you may have already downloaded you still have access to.

  • Considering these free games/PSN+ subscription is part of a welcome back package for subscribers of the PSN service who signed up prior to April 20th, this isn't really a "bargain". It's not available to any new owners of PS3 systems. All eligible users have been sent an email regarding this. OzBargain posts don't need to relay this information.

    • +2

I had my details, "hacked" I have not recieved an email about this. However my mate who lives in San Diego was telling me about how sony emailed him ensuring his protection. All North american accounts are protected by a 1 million dollar insurance policy against fraud protection. This is for the name, dob etc, not credit card. Any one can cancel a credit card. but when you ring your bank, power company etc what do they ask to identify you? all the stuff stolen.

1 mil for north america, plus these free games and PS plus. What do we get? PS plus and no email. Nice one.

  • Can anyone log into psn through their PSP? I can't seem to do so :(

  • Wow, never seen such hatred for "free stuff". Why is that?
I mean the PSN got hacked —>Sony could just say sorry and be done with it. I am not happy about the hacking either

BUT they are giving games away too.

To those affected, whether Sony gives games away or not, you have had your details taken. Its just a matter of yourselves actually taking the compensation (either way you have been damaged).

In those who feel deliberately excluded: There are so many freebies that make it onto the front page (not the forums) that have exclusions-region specific, hardware specific etc-we don't neg them for that.
For those who haven't made an account early enough—>is it safe to say that your details weren't hacked. Why should you benefit when others have "suffered"

Thank you OP for pointing this out to me. I hate the situation we are in.

I don't turn on my PS3 enough to have seen this message.

Thank you for getting your information and placing it on an aggregating sit such as ozbargain. This saves the number of places I have to look to scout for deals

The deal itself is good. I can only see negging this if this did actually negate rights to other incentives/class actions/remuneration-do such T&Cs exist? why is that just naturally assumed (its not like it is equivalent enough a prize)?
These are real questions, I don't have answers to

I apologise for those offended because I just don't REALLY understand the logic

    • They can't just say sorry and be done with it actually. Not only is there investigations into it now but they have attracted class action lawsuits due to it also. If they just say "sorry" they will lose the good faith of users and they will join the class action cases, which is at least in part what this is trying to circumvent. Sony needs to offer adequate compensation otherwise a judge will do it for them more likely than not.

  • +1

    This IS a deal because
    1.) Free games
    2.) Free service
3.) Not compensation when all the services they provide that really matter (I.e. Netplay) are provided free
4.) If you cannot take advantage then sucks to be you for waiting too long to buy a ps3 - be grateful and stfu.
5.) If you're too lazy or stupid to get a credit card replacement, you shouldn't have one. If it takes you more than
10 mintues to get a replacement sorted - learn English, that helps a lot.

Glad it's back up haters and neggers get stuffed. Wah wah wah.

  • Possibly hacked again.

  • I don't believe all the attacks here.

These are free games. So I vote +ve even if people say it is compensation, I am going to take it and most people who are on the PSN at comment and vote -ve will probably take advantage too.

Yes it sucks what happened to PSN and that was a big thumbs down but what are you voting for? The free game offer or what happened to Sony?

People who also say that this is only for people who had already signed up with PSN before a certain date and vote -ve for that, are you going to vote down a deal when it is for a certain state or for a certain place that you can't get to. Kind of the same thing because you can't take advantage of it.

Even this post will atract both -ve and +ve because of the people that are commenting. Well that is my say any way.

I can understand peoples frustration at what happened but these things will happen and the only way it won't happen to you is if you don't use a cc or you don't use your real address or personal details on anything that might be stored by someone other yourself. Really we are all at risk everywhere and ultimately

  • I really wish they gave Fifa 11 or NBA 2K11, I would play those games.

It's funny that germans can't get violent games (it looks like anyway)

  • +1

The only issue I see with this post is that the deal isn't actually available yet… and who knows when it will be?

    • True, its like posting a COTD deal before it goes live. Technically speaking of course

But looks like the mob has spoken, deal it is!

  • This is brilliant i have 3 psn accounts (in different regions) none of them have my personal information, used fake names and fake addresses. Furthermore never used my cc but bought PSN cards. Definite deal for me :)
