Could anyone enlighten me of the "Grey Import implication? Do we still get GST refund under TRS scheme? How's the product warranty (under Samsung) affected? Thank you in advance for your advices.

    • +3

No gst and no local warranty.

      • +2

Not true, they are GST registered and should be including GST in this price. Should check with seller to make sure they are playing fair though.
I wouldn't count on warranty though personally.

        • Defintley no warranty. Even worse than that if you say drop you phone and crack the screen, Samsung Australia will not even repair it even if you pay them.

          • @dlakers3peat: Not from Samsung Au for sure. They claim they would handle warranty in their returns details. Still, I personally wouldn't trust though.

    • +2

Samsung Australia are pigs when it involves OS devices, despite being the same company.

      • Yep usually, but in my case they warranty replaced my phone (Samsung galaxy c7 pro) which I bought overseas and isn't even sold here, with a galaxy s7.

        • +1

They refused to even look at my broken tablet - I said I would pay for the repair, despite being less than a year since purchase.

          • @lonepine: If u did that in Korea, even a random model from overseas, they will repair it for u. Only charging parts fee.
Do not buy any products have double standards to treat customers differently.

  • Would this be a better deal for Australian warranty and Samsung Pay? Of course it's dual Sim and it's corporate and education only, but some Ozbargainers are willing to help.

    • I assume you meant single-sim?

      • I want Snapdragon CPU version but still, want local warranty :(

        • Hardcore pubg gamer?

        • cant have ur cake and eat it too

    • +2

its asian version so not 855. i dont know why dual sim is so important. not worth it imo, losing warranty+au model just for dual sim+$13.

      • +5

Dual SIM is awesome if you travel. Keep your Australian sim in to stay connected, get overseas sim for cheap data.

          • +3

@Gerry H: Because OzBargainers still want to enjoy life. OzBargain isn't about not spending, it's about getting all the same things but cheaper. This includes travel.

        • Also good if you have a separate work sim. Only need one phone then.

      • With dual Sim my mobile phone plan costs me a total of $120 for the whole year

  • Is this SD855 version?

  • +3

Where are the Snapdragon sales ;(

  • +1

For local stock, it has pretty long delivery time with "express" post.

  • Can anyone help me find P30 Pro with this deal?

  • +3

for those on the fence, If it were me with losing the accessibility of a 2-year local warranty, I'd want to at least go SD855 Dual sim for me to consider it. going Grey + Exynos - warranty is really bland. You'd be better off going on a plan with a provider and trying your luck at a monthly discount or EPP if eligible.

  • so you cnt claim trs refund on this?

    • +1

      Yes you can.
If you pay GST you can claim it back

  • +1

Btw.. I can see on education store..
    Galaxy S10+ (Single SIM)
    SM-G975FZWAXSA
    $974.35

Pretty good for local warranty, provided you can get the education sign up

For me, I am interested in the Snapdragon variant, which My Mobile seems to also do for an additional 50$.

    • Does VoLTE work in Australia for the snapdragon variants?

      • According to a owner on whirlpool, yes

      • This is the reply I got from the sellor MyMobile

The difference between the two models:

G9730: CHINA/USA REGION MODEL - SNAPDRAGON 855 VARIANT - NO VOLTE - NO SAMSUNG PAY
G973FD: GLOBAL VERSION - EXYNOS VARIANT - VOLTE - NO SAMSUNG PAY

weirdly it said NO VOLTE & NO SAMSUNG PAY

          https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3ln17m43?p=362#r58904…

Snapdragon S10+ arrived today (G9750). Despite what everybody said, including the seller, VoLTE worked out of the box on Telstra. I assume it will be the same for WiFi calling and RCS. And here I was thinking that I would need a custom ROM. Couldn't be more stoked. And before anybody says custom ROM can't be done, the G9750 is bootloader unlocked(!) and also has unofficial TWRP support. Boom.

          • @InternetExplorer: Good to hear, is Samsung Pay not working in Aus?

            • @Meovel: Samsung Pay is region locked to the card issuers

              • @ChickenAdobo: I vaguely remember have been using a S6 bought overseas with SPay no issue in Aus - that said, they may belong to them same region (e.g. both Global version).

  • B28? Can't find any info on the page

  • Never heard of mymobile, given the phones are grey import ia even more concerning. But the price is very exciting :)

  • -2

Ill never buy a grey import again personally the local warranty is worth the extra $$ but if you dont care about warranty then go for your life there is no notable performance difference

    • Actually there is - that's why people are pursuing SD855 models, plenty of reviews and youtube show Exynos with bad idle battery drain leading to 20-25% battery life diff, if playing games the performance diff are even bigger.

  • I personally will not buy grey import phone anymore, unless it is at least %30 cheaper compare to au stock deal. Now that they put GST on grey import, I don't think I will ever buy one again.

The last 2 grey import phones that I bought already have its seal broken and I also can see a little bit of fingerprints on the phone. On my 2nd purchase, I already mention that I want my phone still brand new with the seal still intact. They already agreed but still gave me the broken seal. Then the process to return/refund is just not worth the hassle.

    • My current S8+ was grey stock, was a smooth transaction with a new unit, maybe it depends on the seller you go through

      • I purchased S8 from Shoppingsquare, they gave me broken seal phone with a little bit of fingerprint even though they already agreed to give me a brand new one with seal still intact. I'm not saying that the phone I got is not a new unit, but I couldn't proof it if its new if the seal is already broken. I tried to make a dispute case to return the item via ebay but it was such a nightmare.

I decided not return itto at the end, because I couldn't trust them that they will refund me in full after I return the item. My point is now that Grey Import item is charged with GST, the saving you get from buying grey import item is probably not worth anymore.

        • Fair enough.

I went through Quality Deals at that time, for me I don't mind the risk as I have PayPal protection and I find the savings significant enough to warrant the savings, plus in this case would also mean a better chip, each to their own tolerances though

        • isnt the gst already included in the price? still significantly cheaper for grey. but after reading ur story i'd only buy from stores many other ozbarginers have.

I think people should vote with their feet and avoid manufacturers who abuse their dominant market position.

If Samsung is hell bent on pushing an inferior but premium priced phones to Australians we should boycott those products as there are viable alternatives at reasonable prices with SD855.

I think Samsung is trying to emulate Apple's draconian policies and diminishing value proposition in terms of steep price increases but decrease in quality (inferior intel modem among many others). Customers did vote with their feet and in Apple's case a dramatic decrease in sales forced Apple to reduce prices in many markets and also offer huge trade in rebates in the US where Apple was offering US$200 rebate for an 2014 old iphone 6 and also the reintroduction of Qualcomm as the sole supplier of modems.

So you may want to consider (1) delaying your upgrade cycle, (2) Google Pixel, (3) LG with 855 or buy another phone that meets your needs. I am sure everyone will survive fine without hanging on to Samsung

    • How bad is the exynos version compared to the SD855? I've personally owned the s10e exynos for over 2 months and can it has been completely lag free for me. Though I wish the battery life could be better.

      • Performance diff are mainly at gaming, if you are not a gamer there's little. The other main diff is battery life, exynos tends to have 20%-25% less battery life.

      • SD855 is better in almost every perspective.
Have a check on youtube then you will find out. Samsung is bullying Australian customers.

        • But isn't it exynos version in all regions except US? Seems like they're the one getting special treatment hmm

        • exynos has better single core performance. shame mobile games arent single core heavy like pc games.

  • Bought the G9750 from this store. CHeers.

  • Damn I missed this. Is there a better or nearby deal going for a S10+ Dual Sim 512GB?

  • Has anyone had their phone dispatched? 9 days after buying and it's still marked as 'paid but not posted'
