FOXTEL on Xbox 360 for Free for a Month

350

As spotted by WebbieGareth:

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1571555&p…

"Try FOXTEL on Xbox 360 for free for a month by signing up any time in June. Watch over 35 live streaming channels (including BigPond’s AFL and NRL channels), there’s no installation required, no FOXTEL fixed term contract, and you can change your subscription anytime – with everything delivered over your broadband connection. Plus it’s unmetered on Telstra BigPond which means there’s no maximum download limit.

Existing FOXTEL on Xbox360 subscribers who don’t already subscribe to the showtime movies or Movie Network packages will be able to watch all movies from these channels for free throughout June.

Only available to Xbox 360 owners who live in FOXTEL metropolitan areas of Australia and who subscribe to both the Xbox LIVE service and the FOXTEL on Xbox 360 service. Xbox LIVE Gold subscription required for all live TV packages."

I signed up when it first came out and then cancelled a few months later, and you can easily cancel via their website, so it is not a huge pain to cancel like it is for Xbox Live ; )

BTW if you don't live in an area that has Foxtel, maybe you can put in the details of someone who does :P

  • great find!

Will only try if no CC required.

  • Do you need xbox live Gold?

    • Yes you do. I just noticed. Then it's not free huh? No good for me.

  • Anyone got 1 month free gold?

  • Not sure if anyone else has this: On my dashboard, a Microsoft offer came up which is 2 months for $2.

Obviously, it'll auto-renew and I have to call Microsoft US to cancel but effectively this deal becomes 1 dollar for anyone without Xbox Live Gold (and have the offer in their dashboard).

    • I think u can pay by paypal now, right?

      • You cannot. Once you add Paypal, that offer will just throw up an error till you remove Paypal account.

  • One more question! It's been a while since I used them, are Gamecard still the best way to go for buying yearly Xbox Gold?

  • -2

    WHENS FOXTEL COMING TO PS3??????????????????

    • +2

They say they don't have plans to port it to the playstation network. (If it ever comes back)

      • LAME

    • +2

The same time reliable on-line gaming does!

  • I didn't think it had NRL? Also what ISP do unmeter on this?

    • Bigpond?

      • I am with iinet and it counts towards my data usage. It uses up about 800 meg an hour on the highest quality.
        Not sure about bigpond sorry.

        • +2

Dude, it says Bigpond is unmetered in the OP's link.

    • anything will be good, except nrl and afl

    • No NRL (or AFL) as of last weekend (however I have now seen neatoboy's link - must be something new, will check tonight), I know that you do get a hybrid of the 3 fox sports channels (foxsportsplay) which is lame by the way - the Reds Crusaders game on the weekend was bumped for the French open. Also the link suggests replays rather than live games.

      • The AFL and NRL was on last nite, its right at the end of the channels.

  • I pay for my foxtel via credit card. I bought my xbox live subscription from ebay so Microsoft don't have my credit card details.

It is a lot better quality than I was expecting. I'm happy with the service.

What you can do is buy the 3 day trial serial numbers from ebay. I bought 50 odd codes a few years ago and typed them in whenever I wanted to go online.

  • I got the 2 months for 2 dollars for Xbox Live Gold.

And then I signed up for the Foxtel Package. Got charged $19.50

Okay. I'm an idiot and this has to be put in bold in the topic: SUBSCRIBE IN JUNE

Luckily enough, I think Foxtel on Xbox is pro-rated. So I'll cancel now and sign in June.

  • Would it be unmetered if I used my Next G mobile plugged into the xbox?

    • pretty sure it's unmetered only for the fixed line lol

    • Is this question serious?

      • lol

      • I realise its a long shot. I'm just hoping the "green dot" unmetered content I get with my Telstra NextG phone is the same as what this describes as having.

  • how much is that Xbox live gold thingy normally ?

    • Think I bought a years worth for about $45 or something. Cant remember. Try ebay…

  • I can see a 2$ offer for two months live gold in my Xbox dashboard. Just my 2 cents

  • Good news for AFL & NRL fans since it is available via Foxtel on XBox:

  • Very nice find

  • Any comments on how an internet provided service is "not available in your suburb"

  • +3

how do i sign up? i tried on the link and it asks for $19.50 ?

  • can anyone confirm this works? i cannot see where it is free anywhere on either my console or the website

  • I say we call them and ask…

  • ok u register for the basic $19.50 package and the first month is free..

ive done that, when i go to watch programs on foxtel now half of them say i have to register for video on demand.. whats the go ? they are live programs .. can u only watch a couple of channels?

    • You sure, it was definitely free?

  • It is saying that I can add any of the packages and it's still free..

  • can we select additional packages as well and not just the get started package?

    • Looks like it, it doesn't say ANYTHING about the getting started package. I added the movies and entertainment ones, we shall see.

EDIT: Actually says you get a FREE MONTH OF XBOX LIVE GOLD too!

  • So is there actually any live AFL on the AFL channel?

I see that they are bringing more too it in 2012…wonder what that could be?

  • Does the trial start at signup, or the 1st June?

Super Rugby semi finals start first week of July.

  • so do I need to have gold to run foxtel 360? My gold ran out a few months ago.

how do I sign up for the foxtel, and do I need to give CC details or is it simple, i dont want any sneaky charges!!

  • ok but do I have to phone them to cancel, or is it a simple click on something in my account?? I hate phoning, they always try rope you in and you can hardly understand them.

  • okay sounds easy, 1 month of all foxtel channels and 1 month of xbox live gold completely free is a great deal in my books, just hope theres no hidden charges. If I sign up and then cancel the subscribtion the next day, will it run for the rest of the month or completely cut my service? just dont want to leave it too late, incase i forget and get a nasty $75 charge on my CC..

    • It should run for the duration of the free promo period. I would be inclined to call up straight away too, would hate to find an expensive surprise at the start of next month!

  • +1

apparently you cant use a debit card for this.. thats all I have.

  • lack of interest in this promo is putting me off, im not going to sign up until I know there are no hidden TC's and that I will get all channels and free xbox live for month.

  • i signed up for this

    i got charged ?

  • just got off the phone to foxtel

it is "free" but they take $20 from your account.. to "test your credit card".. then $10 is refunded shortly, the other $10 will be credited to the next bill. If you cancel early you will get the full amount refunded, but not until the cancellation occurs.

Translation, this is a terrible and vile deal typical of xbox and their autorenewal credit card scams.. whoever posted up there about if u have to give CC details its rubbish was right.. let me advise everyone to be very weary of this..

    • Hi Iggy,

Several people who signed up early for this offer yesterday were billed $20 in error. We have emailed all of them this morning to let them know that they will be refunded the full amount. This issue has also been fixed, so nobody else will be charged.

If you don't receive this email this morning then please call the call centre back and let them know.

      Thanks,

      Craig (FOXTEL)

  • they charged you $20? I heard people getting the $10 charge, but apparently you get it back. Still piss poor that they are getting that charge anyway. I am always wary of these deals and their little traps, i am still considering it but will wait a few days until I know whats going on.

  • $20.. not even the $19.50 for a month.. $20.

    http://i56.tinypic.com/ng3o1l.jpg

So yes, be aware everyone else, i would neg this deal but can't

  • To all the scared people, the charge is just to see if your CC is real - the funds will be reverted. I did it this morning and all is smooth, no need for talk about negging.

    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1571555&p…

    • hi

no.. it is $20 for me, check pic and posts above pls

      • Yes, but if you refer to my post, you will see that it will be refunded. In my case, I got charged $10. Not sure why you were charged $20. If you picked the basic pack for $19.50, then obviously, you would've been charged $19.50 (if it wasn't free). I chose another two packages for a total of $44.50, but was only charged $10. Give it another couple of days and you should be refunded.

        • +1

          Hi Guys,

See reply above - There were a handful of people who received a charge in error yesterday. We have emailed them all to let them know they will be refunded in full, and the error has been fixed so nobody else should have this problem.

          Thanks,

          Craig (FOXTEL)

        • Hi @Craig Foxtel. I was just wondering if all the people were emailed because I wasn't and I got charged the $10.

        • djkizz,

The $10 charge is a pre-authorisation test, to check we haven't been given false CC details. We never receive any payment from this action and the credit is put back on your card after a few days. Some credit cards refuse transactions of less than $10, so this is the minimum amount we can use for the test.

          Craig (FOXTEL)

  • +1

@Craig FOXTEL - It was working yesterday but today all I get is 0B10 error code and cant watch live TV. Not a good promo if this is what to expect from service.

Can you provide an explanation for this error code?

    • It's working now anyway.

      • yep working now. the Live baseball is great when you are sick and want to fall asleep.

Got my free month of live code too.

@CraigFOXTEL hope that issue of it being down does not occur too often I searched and found long down times for subscribers. I hope you guys automatically compensate downtime with extra days for free at the end of the subscription expiry. Ppl dont like paying for a service they are not receiving.

  • +1

yes i did get the email.. agree with sash above, not a good promo.. when i rang up to speak to your customer service consultants, who are indian but have strangely australian names, and i explained the situation, the first one hung up on me, and the second one got testy with me for asking why i had been charged. So thanks for the opportunity to test fox out, i now know it is something that i would never want to be involved with

    • Just horrible service. Yes, those Indian CS reps are sly; will adopt westernized pseudo names/aliases and try to modify their accents…but they can't fool me!

  • +1

i just want to cancel everything and get my money back, im sorry i stupidly went for the promo

    • I'll be steering clear of this deal. Just horrible service. Hope you get it sorted.

  • I want an answer from Foxtel rep.

Can we get all channels and the free month of live? Also, WHY DOESNT DEBIT CARD WORK! Not all of us have or need real credit cards you know?

Finally, to cancel is it really as simple as logging into account and cancelling before the end of the month? Can I sign up and then cancel the next day, and still have my service run until the end?

    I

    • They only accept CC and not DC or other payment methods because the company knows that a small percentage of customers that sign-in to this trial will either forget to opt out of the subscription or be too lazy to do so(e.g. parent's paying for it) and then foxtel starts raping them for $60 a month(with compliments).

If they were offering a fair dinkum trial then there wouldn't need to be any "CC authorisation checks" or "opt-out" nonsense involved, because after all, it is FREE, for a limited time.

    • 1) debit card works, it is what i used..

      2) no u cant cancel online.. i have looked everywhere, done searches, ive done everything u can do to cancel online, they told me u can, that is bullshit, u cant… there is no way, and i challenge anyone from fox to show where u can cancel online. YOU CAN NOT. you need to ring up same as xbox.. it is a major hassle.. to anyone thinking about getting this deal, DO NOT… DO NOT THINK ABOUT FOX.. it is vile manipulation ok..

  • I agree, it should have been completely free from the start. Just a simple sign up, no CC details required but nope they gotta over complicate things and turn it into a trap for people who forget to cancel the auto renew..

    • yep.. i am utterly disgusted with fox now… as i said above, thanks for showing your true colours fox, now i know to never even consider this dastardly org.. and i strongly recommend to everyone else to avoid it too.. bit disappointed 31 ppl vote positive here without using the deal.. pls use the deal b4 u vote positive eh ?

      • Seriously, one or two bad experiences doesn't mean that everyone should avoid it like the plague.

Have you ever used a free trial like this before? They almost ALWAYS require you to enter credit cards for if you forget to cancel.
Its not that hard to set a reminder to cancel.

        • -2

          yeah you are right..

the fact that it was advertised as a free thing, that charged your credit card, and has a call centre in india should not discount other users..

          right…

the issue isnt that i need to cancel

it is that i was charged $20 when it was supposed to be free

can u understand that is quite an inconvenience when i am a low income earner and need my money in my account

          not in 1 month

now.. i need it now.. or i cant buy groceries.. ok

this is $20 out of my account i am STILL waiting to receive back

          ok ?

          Mod: Remove personal attack

        • Again, I will state, one or two in the hundreds of people that signed up for it got a charge.

Maybe you should not take the risk if you are a low income earner, theres always a TINY chance that something like this will happen.
          Now you know.

  • Here is a confirmation of your purchase today:
    Package:
    First Payment: $64.50
    Ongoing Monthly Subscription: $64.50

Your first payment has been waived as you have registered for the free* month. A separate email will be delivered with your Xbox LIVE free* month voucher code.

    wow

  • thats sucks, no Monday night football. what a shit service. Why would someone pay $75 if you get replays of games instead of the live game

  • Just thought I would remind everyone to cancel their Foxtel in the next day or 2 if you signed up on day 1 ; )

BTW it turns out you can have 2 Foxtel accounts on the 1 console at the same time:

    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1712575&p…

    • you are sweet!

i have problem to cancel the service. cant find "manage service" or whatever it is called in my xbox….

  • Time to cancel the service… :)
I didn't even use Foxtel much, probably just twice this month. Oh well, the Gold was worth it!
