Telstra Port-in Offer: 12-Month SIM Only Plan $65 for 60GB Data + $400 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card @ JB Hi-Fi

1870

Similar to the deal earlier this month which had a $500 gift card. Missed out but the bonus is you can immediately ‘upgrade’ this plan to Telstra’s own $69 plan which, until today, is only $49/month. Expired

My steps today:

  • Ported out from Telstra plan to Optus prepaid.
  • Made a phone call, setup voicemail.
  • Went to JB an hour later and signed up for their $65 plan with $400 gift card (ported back in from Optus to Telstra).
  • Used Telstra live chat and changed to their $69 plan which for today only is now $49, see here.
  • Tried to get the extra $10 port-in credit but was unsuccessful.

      • I managed to do this today as well. Ported over to Telstra via JB Hifi, got my voucher and got my discount via telstra 27/4 chat.

  • So.. in summary.

1: Sign up in store at JB for $65 plan? Acquire 400 Giftcard?
2: Go home, live chat Telstra and ask to be moved to the promo $49 offer plan?
    3: Done?

    right?

    • But it's not $49, Telstra website says it's $59 …. where are people seeing $49???

      • +1

It was $49 as part of the Click Frenzy deal, but the deal ended about an hour ago.

      • It has been changed to $59 about 1.5 hour ago. Ozbargained?

  • +2

I checked with Telstra Online Chat and the $49 deal is available through till midnight tonight, even though it has been removed from the website.

    • any chance you can post the chat?

      • It's confirmed. I have chat and the representative also confirmed that it will end this midnight and activation is only available via live chat.

  • So I just ported to optus, went into JB and tried to join. They said that there is a 30 day cooling period if you've just left Telstra and they can't sign me up…

Howcome now one else has hit this wall?

    • Fark
Im screwed then lol just paid out my contract of 2 months left..

Looks like im getting a new number 😂

    • You certainly aren't the only one, this restriction is almost always mentioned in the JB Hi Fi deals.

    • I think it depends on the individual store and how strictly they enforce this rule. Saw a post on another forum which mentioned the Pitt Street JB in Sydney turning a blind eye - might be worth a shot if you're in Sydney?

    • Try another store. Some stores don’t care.

  • +1

can confirm this worked for me even after the 49$ expired
    transfers to Vodafone this morning
found this post then went to jbhifi
signed up at the counter and got my $400 gc
went home and logged into telstra 24/7 app and used live chat to upgrade to the $69 byod plan that was advertised as $49 a month
took less then 5 mins on live chat

did not try for another $10 port in discount

    thank you op!

    • No harm in trying

      • ok i tried and was told i already had to maximum discount available for this plan. so wont go below $49

    • Tried and rejected for the port in discount

    • +1

How long ago did you try this? Was it after the expiry of the deal?

      • 3:30pm in WA
was about 1.5 hours after telstra website changed to $59

  • Sorry, noob question here. How do you port to a different network and port back?
I'm currently on a $99 plan with Telstra for Pixel 2XL. I know I'm paying too much. My plan doesn't end till Dec. Not sure what are my options :/

    • +1

check if you have a device buy out fee. It is likely you will.

the next best thing is to just ask for monthly credit.

Tell them you have been a loyal customer and $99 is a poor value for money given there are cheaper plans out there with better inclusions.

  • do you need to pay the contract termination charge for this upgrade? As the Telstra agent is telling me there is the contract termination fee as I have a contract with Telstra.

    • Turns out the guy overlooked the ETC and I need to remind him I am not cancelling my contract but upgrade it.

  • +1

    Great deal good work op!

I really want this, just can't be bothered. Don't need 60GB a month either, plus the pain of selling the gift card…… will go BOOST instead.

  • How long does it take to port in to telstra from optus?
Can it happen now if I walk into jbhifi store?

    • +1

My port to optus took 1 minute. But I got blocked by jb because of the 30day cooling period. I would have had to get a new number for them to honour it. I tried 2 different stores and no one budged

      • Thanks, I was with optus. Went in to JB HiFi store 1.5hr ago. Got port in straight away. Now on a chat with telstra Rep, having it processed. Fingers crossed.

        • Worked nicely. Perfect deal. Thanks op

  • Smart

  • Thoughts on this deal, in jbhifi now

    P30 Pro
12 months $65 plan 60GB, later change to $49 and $999 for the phone. $1587 for 12 months

25 months $65 plan 80GB, later change to $49 and $899 for the phone

I think the 12 months is comparable to the previous offer of $65x12 + $699, so $1479 for 12 months

    Thoughts?

    • Who wants a phone without Google apps?

  • +3

I just "upgraded" to this from the JB HiFi $500 gift card offer that was posted not long ago. Saving an extra $16/month! Such a good deal :D

    Thanks a lot OP!

    • You switched mid contract from another deal? Nice move.

      • Sure did, $500 gift card and a 12 month plan for $588. Absolute bargain!

    • Professional

    • So you got the $500 from the last deal and now you got another $400 through upgrading?

Who is your JB dealer, I am willing to Fly there!!

      • +1

I think they meant upgraded to the new rates not the gift card…

  • I just completed this. Sign up for the $65 plan, talk to Telstra online chat. They said the $49 frenzy deal is over, but they can offer me the $59 with $10 credit to bring it down to $49. Still 60G of data. I am not sure what the plan difference between the frenzy and this $59 deal. Regardless, the main point is I pay $49 per month for 12 months and has 60G of data.

    • +1

Frenzy deal isn't over till midnight (10pm AEST) - get another rep an try again.

      • Retract my statement

  • Confirming i just did this upgrade to $49
However i got my $500 gift card from the last/previous deal and it worked for me.

Works out to be $7.33 per month and 60gb

I asked via the chat in the telstra app

Hi team, i would like to pgrade to the current offer of $69 per month for 60gb and only pay $49 a month

  • +1

Tried to get extra $10 port in discount, got rejected, but offered extra 5gb data per month…better than nothing I guess

    • Lucky you… my operator took back the $49 offer after i even mentioned porting in… knew about the jbhifi deal straight away… crock of sh**t lol

I said fair enough and reopened another chat

Edit: 2nd attempt and this time he told me it ended it at 4pm…

Whole thing is in shambles holy moly

      • So did you manage to get the $49 deal in the end?

        • Still trying
1st rep offered it then took it away

2nd rep told me it ended at 4pm today

3rd rep told me it ended yesterday

4th rep said yes but ill have to stay in the chat "it will take 10-20 minutes to process the $49 plan" 😂
          🤯

          Better late than never hey.

        • half an hour later it got finalized…

          what a hassle

  • Signed up for this tonight at JB Hifi and now on the chat with the Telstra rep. They are upgrading me to the $49 deal.

Only downer so far, my phone keeps saying 'SIM not provisioned'. The Telstra rep says this is normal cause it can take 3-5 days for the port to complete. But my other SIM is not working and I already got an email from Telstra saying the port is complete.

    • Mine was activated in under 5 mins.
You've probably done this but have you restarted your phone?

      • Yeah restarted and all. Also, can anyone see the updated plan in their account yet? I can't, and haven't received email confirmation of the change either.

Mods please take down this thread.
    It's cheating

    • +1

It’s not cheating. Telstra either don’t care or it’s an oversight in the promo

    • It is completely up to Telstra to say yay or nay on this.

  • I ported over just before JB Hifi closed tonight. The port doesn't look like its going to complete until tomorrow morning, but Telstra chat have added a note to my account so that I'll still be eligible for the click frenzy deal tomorrow. Phew!

    • Mine completed in 15 minutes also just before close… using telstra internet as we speak

      • No idea where the delay is. Porting over from Vodafone so might be on their end. It's been an hour now so I assume it's going nowhere tonight.

        • On live chat right now asking for port in discount after they just sent me terms and conditions for the $49 a month for 60gb lol

I just asked and there wasnt any hassle.

Edit: Do not ask for port in discount. They will catch on to the JBHIFI deal and reject you after sending the terms and conditions for the upgrade… i am trying again.

        • I also port from Vodafone this evening and the transfer did not get through so far. I had a live chat with Telstra around 11pm and got $49/m deal secured without any issue :)

        • Port came through this morning. Straight down to JB Hifi to collect by gift card and then onto Telstra chat. Switched over to the $49 deal without any issues. Huzzah!

  • +1

ONly just opened OZB and JB is closed and asleep so no deal for me, bummer. NExt time!

    • In my situation, Telstra online still happy to convert my JB BYO $65 deal to $59 with extra $10 credit, so I pay $49 per month. So they might still do it for you.

  • -1

Instead of giving 400 voucher and make customers spend at jbhifi, why not just offer the plan for cheaper price

    • Because jbhifi are making sales and telstra are still getting customers at way above world average rates lol

      • Telstra is only doing this because they are not making sales and desperately need customers.

  • Can I port in from belong?

  • Is the current telstra deal 60GB for $59/mth still good deal? I missed out on the $49 :( How frequent does the 60GB drop to $49

    • +1

I believe you still can get $49 even if its not advertised anymore. Just say that you want a port-in discount as well. Be persistent and try other rep if it fails.

      • Anyone able to confirm this?

        • Yes, I just did and port over. Make sure you said it is from another Telco, I think that sealed the deal.

          • @beefmaster: So you ported in with the JB offer then "upgrade" it to the $59/mth and asked for the $10 off port in credit?

            • @teeshiu: No, I did not go to JB, dont have the time and do not want further delay to miss the Telstra frenzy deal which is already expired. I think the reason they still offer me the expired frenzy deal is because I port over from Optus. If you have port from JB then you would be in Telstra network by then which I think it may be less of an incentive for them to offer you the expired frenzy deal.

But worth a try. $400 gift card alone is pretty good, but nothing I want from JB.

      • Excellent, I reach out to Telstra on their 24x7 chat and on first chat they are able to offer me "BYO $49 Plan frenzy offer". I successfully port over from Optus.

I did spoke to another support late last night, but I only ask was the deal still available, the support said "No" I said bye! I guess you will need to specifically ask them to offer an expired deal and mention it is a port from another Telco.

    • it's pretty much the same as the JB Hifi deal but includes some international minutes and Peace of Mind data (you won't be charged if you go over your data limit).

  • Does anyone can confirm the $400 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card offer expired or not today?

    • +2

The gift card is still part of the deal until Sunday - see screenshot of deal attached to this post. The expired bit relates to switching this plan to the 60GB BYO plan which was untill yesterday $49 ($20 credit) but now slightly more expensive at $59 ($10 credit).

  • I was on $45/month 1 year contract, with 50GB data and $200 gift card.
Compared to this one, you need to pay 20*12 =$240 more and get $200 more gift card.
The difference is -$40 in total, but with 60GB data per month.
Do you think it is worthy?

    • Worthy in what way? You wouldn't be able to upgrade and get an extra gift card anyway. $45/month with a $200 gift card is still a solid deal, if that makes you feel better! :-)

    • We are under the same condition.

I am not quite sure whether is OK to switch this plan to the same 60GB BYO plan ($59 now, $10 credit). Further $120 could be saved then.

    • There always be a better deal in the future. Cost of data internet depreciate over the time.

  • +2

I ported across this afternoon & got my 400 bucks, took about 30 minutes and went straight to Live Chat, I asked for the $49 plan and he said it expired last night, however, he was happy to do it. I don't know if I was upgraded or not as the website still shows I am still on the $65 plan and I got no confirmations of plan changes, he simply said he has applied a $20 credit/month and everything else would be as per JB HI's plan. So if that is the case then it could work out to $45. shrug - will check when the first bill arrives.

    • Yeah, I signed up today too, guy in the chat said he would apply 10$ extra credit to bring it down from $59 but the plan details still show $59.
Manually applied. Only the actual bill will make it clear.

    • That's really nice of the guy.
I'm not going to chance it thought..
Be sad if I do that and bang, they won't let me downgrade to $49.

    • +1

Got my first bill today and it was indeed $45, really surprised that it was $45 and not $49. WINNING!

  • On a side note, as per the Telstra application, my plan is called "JB HI-FI Mobile BYO Plan $65 12 Month". Is that the same plan name for everyone?

    • Yes it is.

  • Anyone still having luck with telstra getting it down to $49? Thinking of signing up my wife with this as well

  • I just did this, with the view to switch to the JB Mobile $45 BYO in 30days, and potentially port back out at that point (cancellation fee for the $45 plan is only $270, so I've technically come out in front.)

They may get suss if I keep doing this every few months though.

    • How do you make a switch to $45 JB mobile plan? Do you go to JB hifi or through Telstra chat? I thought you only can switch to Telstra plan.

      • Doesn't work anymore. Just tried with 3 different agents. You can only access the 59 plan.
