I think you mean to write 10W-40 in your title.

How does this compare to the HPR version? Is the HPR version better quality oil even though they are both synthetic?

    • Surely at some point it becomes snake oil.

don't bother too much with what oil as long as it meets the manufacturer specs, just change the oil and filter regularly. There's been lots of studies on engine wear and the result showed its not what you use but how often.

How would you compare this to castrol Edge 5-30?

I suppose the easiest way would be to hold them up side by side and then see which one tasted better.

I suspect that it's largely a matter of personal preference…

      • I gag on the price, let alone the taste…

Always buy 20L cans unless like this at 50% off

Prefer Penrite to what some major energy company chooses to flog to consumers from it's darkest wells. High Zinc ones (HPR) are good for old engines and their new eco ones may last better by having cleaner additives or running <1% cleaner or something…

      It's cheaper than Castrol Edge 5-30. :)
Otherwise it's pretty much the same kind of oil for a normal user.

Thanks guys. I prefer these 6L bottles as my Aurion takes around 6L with filter change.

  • Generally I use Penrite Semi Synthetic Engine Oil 10w-40 for my car (Mazda 626 2000).

Is it okay to switch to this one or stick to semi? If car mileage is important currently it is around 146k and looking for 150k.

    Please suggest.

It will be fine to switch to Full Synthetic, especially if you choose the same viscosity 10w-40. If it is the same price as the Semi Synthetic, then for sure get it.

      • Thanks. Almost same price just a difference of $5.

As long as it doesn't damage the engine due to synthetic then its good. I read internet synthetic engine oil is not good for old cars.
