Can anyone here recommend a decent face & body moisturizer for a guy? If not from this list, another recommendation would be appreciated. I have dry skin.

I'm currently using sorbolene for face and body.

If you want to stick to one product only for both the face and the body, you could use Cetaphil moisturising lotion or Cerave moisturising lotion. Both are fragrance-free and recommended by dermatologists. They come in different sizes so you could start with a small one to try, though larger sizes are better value.

      • Thanks! I've used Cetaphil before. Its been good.

I'm happy to use multiple products btw. Any other recommendations welcome! I know I get very dry in the shins/calves, face and arms.

Cerave would be a step up from Cetaphil (in my opinon), since their moisturisers include good ingredients like ceramides. I'm not sure how dry your skin is but their moisturisers come in lotion or cream form. Both of these can be used on face or body. I've used the lotion form on my face and despite it saying 'dry to very dry skin', it's actually just right for my combination skin (a bit oily in some areas, a bit dry in some areas). I think the cream would be thicker. There may be testers at Chemist warehouse so you can try it out.

If you are willing to spend more on a separate facial skin care then give the CeraVe Facial Moisturising Lotion PM 52ml a go at night time - it has niacinamide that has many benefits for skin health.

Update: See Aeonx's's recommendation below - QV Intensive with Ceramides Moisturising Cream also has ceramides and niacinamide, and is better value than the Cerave Facial lotion PM (which is a tiny 52ml).

And do use a sunscreen for the day time. Depending on your preference, you could either look for a suitable moisturiser with sun protection, or you could layer a dedicated sunscreen on top of moisturiser.

I used to use Cetaphil but have recently changed to Sukin. Currently using their body lotion, face wash (men's), face moisturiser (men's) and toner (men's). Their products have a subtle fragrance and feels light on the skin - haven't looked back.

Also, Sukin is free from synthetic chemicals, 100% carbon neutral, natural ingredients and Australian made.

Sukin is good too, and half price at the moment :)

Those with very sensitive skin may need to be aware that they use essential oils in their facial products, which can be potentially irritating for some.

I'm a big fan of their Derma Sukin cleansers (no fragrance or soap, dermatologist recommended), but the Derma Sukin line is never on sale :(

        • +1

That Derma Sukin stuff looks good for the price (never tried). I've always used Nivea products. Would you say Sukin is a step above?

          I'm male if that matters

@montorola: Hmm, that's a bit difficult to answer without knowing which products we are comparing between the two brands. And it's also a bit difficult to compare a natural brand with a non-natural brand because the ingredients are very different. I suppose you would be the best judge to the texture, comfort and effectiveness of the products for your skin type.

Sukin's approach is to use natural ingredients, as opposed to synthetic ingredients. It's not possible to say in a broad sweep that 'natural is better', because some natural ingredients can also be irritating. It's also very hard to know the exact percentage of a certain active component of a natural ingredient. But generally people are very happy with Sukin from product reviews. It's certainly great value.

@moocher: Thanks moocher, I was pretty ignorant of what I was using and I prefer something that is natural and australian made so will give that a go! Cheers :D

              • @montorola:

                niacinamide

                ceramides

Are snake oil claiming to be anti-aging components and obviously phrases like "dermatologist approved" are marketing idiocy.

These creams are cosmetic products which work by smearing a layer of oil across the skin which makes it look good.

If you want skin to remain looking young the most important things are regular application of sunscreen to avoid UV damage and washing your face every day with a ph balanced cleanser to remove industrial pollutants.

There is nothing special about any cleanser, they're all surfactants, so Dove Beauty Bar is as good as any other ph balanced cleanser.

@montorola: Personally I avoid Nivea since I was a teen as I noticed a lot of their products have alcohol or similar ingredients that were striping the natural oils from my face

I do have sensitive skin though

I have been using Sukin also

Recently also been trying endota spa organic stuff haha which I got on sale which is good but probably out of your budget

Go for Sukin. And always make sure there's no alcohol / ethanol or similar in the ingredients

QV intensive with Ceramide is great for dry skin. It has 5% Niacinamide. It is light, absorbs well and not sticky.

      • +1

That's a great option too. It was too greasy for me personally when I tried the tester, but it would suit dry skin types.

    • +1

we used to use sorbolene and other body moisturiser before, since we bought a humidifier we never had any problem with dry skin anymore.

Qv lotion, cream and body wash are all excellent products. Pharmacist recommended once and I've never looked back. The lotion isn't greasy at all and it works really well
