Recommendations for men's basic facial moisturiser? I usually use La Roche.

      • +3

I said "moisturise" and not "hydrate"

    • +2

      Is La Roche considered "basic"?

    • Where is your skin type in terms of the oily-dry spectrum, and is your skin sensitive and prone to irritation?

      • Not prone to irritation and I'd say more dry than oily.

You can consider this Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hyaluronic Acid Nourishing Cream.

And I would recommend adding a face sunscreen for daytime when the UV index is above 3.

Edit: If you'd rather use one product for daytime, you can consider the Dermaveen Ultralight Day Lotion (not water-resistant)

I should add that your skin type is more important than whether you are a man or woman - skin care packaged for men is just a marketing thing :)

And if you're happy with La Roche-Posay, it's fine to stick with that - it's also on sale on their website with cashback

@moocher: Is there a good guide out there for skincare tips and product recommendations by skin type that you know of?

            • +3

@Dicci: I don't know of one, but Dr Sam Bunting (dermatologist) has some useful videos on her Youtube channel addressing concerns like dry skin, combination skin, acne, rosacea etc. Just bear in mind that she is based in the UK, and may recommend her own skincare line or other products not easily available here. She does sometimes mention brands like La Roche-Posay, CeraVe, The Ordinary, Avene though.

One thing I disagree with her is that she thinks all cleansers that foam are bad. In fact there are many very gentle foaming cleansers on the market now that not only do not strip the skin but actually hydrate slightly.

Edit: Here's one of her videos on how to pick the right moisturiser for your skin type

if you moisturise immediately after you step out of the shower and after a towel dry, you would improve the effectiveness of any moisturiser
alpha keri and dermaveen are basic and great if la roche posay is getting pricey

    • LRP is having a 25% off sitewide till midnight. Stack it with 25% shopback.
I just restocked some effaclar duo and sunscreens

  • Weren't Sukin 1L items half price at $10, as recent as late last year? i.e. Full Price $20?

    • Would be surprised if there are still items left that haven't been hit by the inflation hammer. Pretty much just the new normal.

Nice, Trilogy Bakuchiol on sale for half price.

For those of you that have genuinely sensitive skin and need to use Cetaphil / QV / Goat etc bodywash, I have converted to this and saved a tonne of money since.

Dove's "beauty bar"s are okay too, but stay away from their body washes.

  • Dang. The Amex offer just expired yesterday. Bad timing.

  • Cancer council hasn’t been on sale in ages, so sad they aren’t in this round

    • +1

give the DermaVeen sunscreen a go. It's really good… doesn't dry greasy, doesn't sting if it gets in your eyes.

      • I have, I don't like it. Cancer Council Active is my fav body sunscreen

  • What are your recommendations ffor moisturiser for very oily skins?
