The 250gb is a discontinued model, that might have explained the price, but I'd be happy if they price matched it for a 160gb :)

Yeah I tried CBD and called a few others - nobody has any.
Called Sydney CBD store. Guy in the entertainment area told me that he had sold them all at $300. Asked if he knew of any other stores nearby but said that he had all the Sydney stock sent to him! Dont know if that is true or not.

Don't quote me but it should be 3.21. Just a reminder that these are the older slims and are more prone to bluray drive failure (apparently). Also they consume more power than the 160/320 but not to significant.

Choose Australia or the US as your country then, and don't really worry about YLOD as they are extremely rare on slims. And I also wouldn't buy one from Australia if you do not actually live here as you can not claim warranty

I guess soon Sony will drop price of PS3 significantly because of the cheaper costs of the new model - $300 might well become the new RRP for the 160gb.
yeah according to the japanese website it should cost around the same price as the 160gb(current) but it will be 320gb instead…

No deal whatsoever in Sydney Myer stores checked today this must be a once off bargain for a PS3 at other Myers. PS3 at Myer Sydney City is $500 plus standard price nothing on sale. Amyone know of a Xbox 360 plus Kinect for $300 and a game with controller now thats a bargain.

'tv games', that is a funny term mainly used to describe cheap and nasty chinglish pirated NES game reboots. By the time the child is 4.5 the PS3 will be under $100 so don't waste your money. Besides, little kids don't deserve a games console this powerful or capable. Start them off with something a little less like a cheap PS1 or 2.
It'll be fine for a little kid, especially if it was a bargain. However, the point you make about prices in 3 years is true. But if lovepub is just using it as an excuse to buy it for himself…. ;)
Just curious. Why bother with the 250gb model? It is easier to get the 160gb model in a bundle for the similar price with firmware below 3.55. why bother with this?
Depends, I needed firmware 3.xx under 3.56. There was a chance the current models could be 3.56+. And I'm getting the move pack elsewhere for nix + it'll need a later FW anyways I think.
Anyone else….many of their own reasons I guess…..
The Move pack will update the FW to 3.50 not sure about the newest games whether it will update the FW or not. I've seen some of the friends bought a few PS3 recently got 3.50 FW on it.
