  • Bugger, can't see BMW Longlife spec on this anymore…. I think in the old days it used to have it. oh well….

  • How's 5w-40 synpower for a diesel Hyundai i40 with dpf?

Time to learn how to service cars

    • +2

So easy for most cars. Just Google it.

      • +1

Yeah, each car has its little nuances. E.g. a ranger/bt50 can't be drained for longer than 10 minutes. And euros have the silliest sump plugs for some reason.

      • +2

Fumoto valves save time and no more worries about stripping threads and rounding off the nut. Worthwhile investment if you intend to keep the car for a long time.

        • This is why you learn, no need to strip threads or round the sump plug/bolt (nuts go on bolts, and behind the wheel). If it wont seal under even light tension, you need a new crush washer, seal, rubber oring, whatever it uses to seal, no need to swing off the bolt. Or simply add a thin amount of sensor safe silicone to the flat surface of the bolt or sump and clean it off/reapply each oil change.

I havent heard any issues with the Fumotos but I dont want to use them. Feels off.

  • What is the magnet that they are talking about?

    • I believe it's a promotional fridge magnet they hand out at special events. There's quite a few posts in the past deals saying it's not needed to claim the cashback.

      • I tried to submit the promotion and it's asking to upload the magnet photo. Does anyone has this ? If not, what should we upload ?

        • +1

I just pressed next and completed my entry and got confirmation from Valvoline as well - no magnet photo here

  • I have plenty of stock from previous deals and thanks to COVID I hardly drive anywhere now. No gigs left to drive to. So I dont log enough kms to warrant buying any for a couple of years.

    • +1

Most cars still require new oil each year and brake/clutch fluid every two years regardless of kms.

      • +1

        Warranty issues aside.

Nah, only if parked out in the weather. If undercover you eliminate a lot of potential for contaminants like condensation build up in engine oil. As a blanket statement, its safer to change it. Brake fluid absorbs water (bad, because it boils at brake temps) so worth changing every so often anyway, unless you already run silicone brake fluid. Those numbers are just on the side of caution for liability concerns, coincidentally serves marketing and bottom line too.

Make sure you start it and idle it a little weekly though. And get a battery charger/maintainer, theyre the ones you can just leave connected. Id double those numbers if generally parked undercover, not doing the KMS, and starting it regularly.

    Awesome deal got 3, thanks!

  • Can't see any online

  • Last time I claimed they denied my claim. They wanted proof.

    • Your receipt is proof

    • My claim "couldn't be found" even though I received an email confirmation after submission :S I'm currently working it out with them via email

    • Claiming and receiving gift card used to be straight forward, however now it's unreliable and they may later say they need to check with the card issuer if it wasn't sent out.

  • Bloody hell. Signed up an account when purchasing only to realise it's a paid member account and I unknowingly paid $5 extra. Grrr.. so bloody misleading.

    • +1

But you get $10 credit, so you made profit.

      • I have to spend more money to reap the benefit of that $10. That's not profit in my books.

  • +2

Purchased three 5W40 bottles. Before discount, $191.97; after SCA discount 40%, cashback 1.5%, giftcard 8% and $60 cash back the final price will be $44.39

    • Link?

      • Maths. The catalogue says 40% off but it's actually closer to 43.54% off.

        Normal price:

        3 x 67.99 = $203.97

        Discounted price:

        3 x (38.39 - (38.39 x 0.08) - (38.39 x 0.015) - 20) = $44.23

        • The 1.5% cashback is calculated on the ex GST price not the GST inclusive price. Maths.

  • Damn. Only issues is with Suncorp Rewards minimum gift card is $50.

  • Will this be good enough for Volkswagen or not? 5w-30 is the right one but I am not sure if I have to get only the engine oil labeled "EUROPEAN"

    • Volkswagen approval is through VW 504.00/507.00, none of these have it. You should be okay with the MST ones but if you want to stay safe look for the approval.

      • 504/507 is if you want longer service interval. Otherwise 502/505 is OK but as you said none of the Valvoline oil specifiically listed VW approval as far as I could see. Nulon/Penrite/Castrol/Liqui-Moly have VW approved oils.

  • +1

I tried one of these Valvoline oil (5w-30) once in my i40 petrol, few thousands km later started to get timing chain rattle on start up; dipstick was not low so not sure what the issue was. Switched to Penrite GF5 this time around and issue seems to have gone.

    • Overfill?

      • Oil level was just right maybe a tiny bit over

        • Wierd

  • Found this in the T+C….

One (1) entry per purchase receipt will only be accepted.

I assume this means we have to buy it with 3 separate transactions to get 3 per household?

More than one (1) cash back claim is permitted per household and per receipt, up to a maximum of three (3) entries per household. That is, multiple entries are permitted. One (1) entry per purchase receipt will only be accepted.

Is the last sentence contradicting the first?

    • Saw that too, I think it means you have to actually enter 3 times if you bought 3. So they won't issue 2-3 cashbacks on 1 entry.

      • In the last thread they said you can buy 2 on the 1 receipt and receive 2 cashbacks. I've gotten 2 cashbacks on the 1 receipt in the past too.

    • Yes. No. My understanding is three cashbacks per receipt (ie one entry), three entries per household would be the limits.

  • is 0w20 eligible too?

  • +1

Just received my cashback… but I think they messed up because they returned 6 instead of 3….

    Guess I made $5…

    • Whoa, aren't you lucky! When did you submit your claims and did you provide a magnet photo?

      • +1

Submitted claim same day this deal came out, didn't provide any magnet photo, all I did was send a screenshot of the receipt.

        • +1

That's quick. Cheers for the reply.

        • Damn! I submitted my claim on the 17/4 and haven’t received mine yet.

Please allow up to two (2) months for delivery of eftpos gift cards to the nominated address as provided by the claimant on the online claim form.

          I guess I’ll keep waiting.

  • Finally got my 2x cashback for January's promotion yesterday!

  • +1

Got mine last week also. Rippa deal thanks op.
