Just in time for them to go back to school!

  • Still waiting for their 4G sim plan from previous deal.

    Good deal for this though

  • What is low income to them?

    • +3

Family Tax Benefit Parts A or B

As defined by the government. Don't even think for 1 minute that Telstra are doing this out of the goodness of their heart - they're all being subsidised by the government…

      • -6

To be frank, government owns 50% of Telstra so they if thats the case they are ripping themselves off. But where does it say this deal is subsidised by the government

        • +8

          government owns 50% of Telstra

Huh? Didn't they sell it all between 1997-2011?

But where does it say this deal is subsidised by the government

Check the NBN website. I think it was announced as a part of the covid relief packages, so families without internet could still home-school.

          • +5

@salmon123: Yep, it was fully privatised in 2011.

        • +5

got your facts wrong Frank hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

'This plan is normally priced at $75 per month'

What a rip-off. Also, what do Telstra ask for after 12 months?

    • +3

Indeed, for $75/month you'd expect at least a 50/20 plan.

  • -5

probably cheapest nbn plan that im aware of atm? good on ya telstra. Oh well the $5 telstra sim should see us through when the free nbn ends on sept 30th.

    • +6

      good on ya telstra

Nope. Don't think there's ever a valid time to use those words. Telstra are hated for a reason.

      • They the only ones who have unmetered Apple Music for post and prepaid. Even Optus removed unmetered Spotify.

        • You pay for it though. They are always the dearest, remind me if BP servos

          • @DannyBoy: I went with a 12 month prepaid when it was half price, or $100 off. It's great, speeds are great. Only complaint is Telstra prepaid doesn't have visual voicemail. That's actually a huge problem for me and i'm not sure what to do now. I could get a second sim with a service that has visual voicemail. i don't need a postpaid plan because my telstra prepaid has unlimited calls and enough data for 12 months.

          • @DannyBoy: You are paying for a lot more than that

    • Free NBN when was that

  • -2

its hard to beat as it includes a voice service too. "Phone line + calls included" note "have not connected to the nbn with another carrier in the last 3 months" i guess you would be excluded if another household member has already signed up to nbn with another ISP.

How do they check this item#3?

    • +1

Yeah its very very annoying, but I guess they check with NBN

      • +3

'haven't connected to the nbn with another carrier in the last 3 months' , but if you are already with Telstra you can do it…

    • I’d assume they have visibility of who is connected to what to allow churning etc to work. It’s a network and at some point there’ll be a node or exchange they could check?

    • As far as I can tell it's to prevent people from churning again. Eg. You recently moved from A to B, so you have to stay with B for the discount.

  • So does this deal include call's to landline and mobile's

  • My grandmother (pensioner) pays more for this for just her Telstra landline with unlimited calls, and she has an NBN NTD. Wish she could get this offer.

OP might need to update the requirements:

    • have a valid Centrelink concession card and you're receiving Family Tax Benefit Part A or Part B
    • Yes main page doesn't mention the concession card, but when you click apply it's just about the first thing it mentions… could just be poor choice of words.

After 12 mths, the full Core Internet plan price will apply ($75/mth, plan price may change). If you cancel your plan within 12 mths of connecting, you will need to payout the remaining cost of your Telstra Wi-Fi Modem. The payout amount is $9 multiplied by the number of months remaining from 24 months e.g. if you leave after 8 months you would pay $9 x 16 (the number of remaining months), at a total of $144. If you leave after 12 months, you will not need to payout your Telstra Wi-Fi modem. A pre-payment of [$150] may be required for new Telstra customers. This amount will be credited to your Telstra account and will be applied against your bills. If you choose to leave, we will refund any remaining credit to you.

I have a feeling there is a joke somewhere there but I can put my finger on it.

    • +9

I do some work for the Department for Child Protection. Many of the "struggling" houses I visit have enormous TVs, every kid has a decent phone and laptop. Of course they have internet on too. Yep, plenty of streaming sites and enormous dogs which plow through a decent budget of dog food each week. Last week, one of the kids ragged on me for my shoes and that his laptop was better than mine! Problem is, they have $0 in the bank and a bunch of bad debts.

      • But do they have any good debts?

        • +3

Not too many. "Good debts" as you put it, comes with financial literacy. Many of Australia's poor families don't have financial literacy, don't have great financial discipline and think very short-term. Another of the kids I work with has been "unsettled" during school in the morning lately. Guess what - mum orders Uber Eats Maccas for him for breakfast! And it was not a one-off! So he loads up on sugar, saturated fat then goes off to school where he cannot concentrate because the teacher is boring! It costs her about $30 a time when she does it! I'm not trying to slam the poor but seriously, if you had seen some of the stuff I have…

    nbn 25 standard
    44Mbps typical evening speeds.

    Hmm… something doesn't match up.

  • +1

LOL, I am just waiting for 5G home broadband to kick the ass of NBN, so they actually stop price gouging on Internet Broadband.
NBN sucks in general, cant even give the speed of what the plan is you know

    • I said this would happen ages ago on this site, got down voted to death… people are funny.

    • Weird, but The truth is truth

I mean hou just gotta look as far as new Zealand to find out how much we are getting ripped off

  • how much is the modem worth normally?

    • $219 outright or free if you stay for 24 months. If you leave early you have to pay the remaining cost.

  • +1

Pretty useless deal when they refuse to carry out our switch to nbn citing 'COVID-19'…..

  • +4

Beware if you switching to telstra it takes 3 weeks or more for you to get connected to nbn. due to Covid 19

    • How about FTTB?

    • Did you have an existing NBN connection or were you on a non-NBN connection switching to NBN?

    • Hey mate, can you share a bit of a timeline of your application with Telstra? I submitted my application last week and would like to estimate the time required for the switching so I can cancel my plan with TPG.

  • Keep getting error pages

    • What page is erroring out?

      • +1

At the end after I enter all the details

Sorry, an error occurred and your order could not be submitted

If the problem persists please contact 24/7 chat or call us on 1800 336 028

  • So I'm not receving any family tax benefits and I have home interenet. However have been stuck with ADSL2+ on a plan with telstra for at least 24 months and NBN is said to be due any day now. Does This mean I qualify based off those last two points?

    • If it is all 3, would recieving job keeper qualify for the top point?

    • To be eligible for the offer, you'd need all 3 points sorry.
Sounds like you're almost coming to disconnection date on your ADSL service? Might want to move soon

      • @lostoutback, are you legit telstra employee? Can the discount be applied to existing plan?

  • +1

Tried doing this for my parents.
Also get an error page after submitting everything.
When I called them - can't help. Web chat was absolutely useless too.
    Not sure what to do?

  • +1

Error for days but today it worked fine.

  • Can anyone tell me is this sufficient speed and data allowance for myself and my 14yo? He has a PS4 and plays for an hour or 2 at most on school days and probably up to 10-12 hours over a weekend, including YouTube. I just watch Netflix etc. I want a good price but scared it won't be enough and I'll have to upgrade, costing me more than another provider.
