Castrol Edge 5W-30 Engine Oil 10L - $69 @ Repco

190

I was looking for 5L but only 10L on special, it's good if you want to change oil for 2 cars at the time or save half a bottle for the next use.

Once you open the bottle, it will be contaminated and won’t be able to use few months down there track. Was told by some mechanic so not sure how accurate it is.

That doesn't seem to make sense.

I get that for brake fluid, but not oil.

Lmfao yeh that's bs, your mechanic is using a open 200L drum for oil changes. Just don't leave the oil in your boot. Want it to be stored in a stable temperature environment

        Yeah like the car's engine

        • -1

It has a purpose in the engine. Stored in the boot its goin through pointless temp changes reducing its properties that you'd want when you add it to your engine.

            • @Laziofogna: Pretty sure the bottle will say not to store in car boot. Do some reading, educate yourself before making stupid comments

              • -2

@DoesntEvenMatter: Think again mr Pretty Sure, cause the label doesn't say that and it's total non sense. You can try again and play the "imho" card, but it's still non sense

@Laziofogna: From the Castrol EDGE 5W-30 A3/B4 Product Data Sheet -

                  Storage
All packages should be stored under cover. Where outside storage is unavoidable drums should be laid horizontally to
avoid the possible ingress of water and damage to drum markings. Products should not be stored above 60°C, exposed
to hot sun or freezing conditions.

                • @Laziofogna: I checked and it says it on penrite atleadt. I've seen it on nulon or shell too sooo in the manufacturers opinion its true and not nonsense

                  • @DoesntEvenMatter: Nahh, car boot does not harm. Pretty sure you wrote car boot. We all make mistakes, don't worry.

Because he wants you to come back to his shop rather than storing oil in your home.

    • +1

Your mechanic is feeding you bs.

Leaving it in a sealed container is fine.

I mean it kinda does make sense if you put oil in your car and dont drive it and let it sit after 6months, a year whatever its then no good and you have to change it anyway so opening a oil container and exposing it to air might degrade that oil if you leave it around? not 100% but does make sense to me

      • +2

Used oil needs to be replaced because it gets contaminated by things like carbon and fuel, and it wears out due to the heat cycles and shearing.

It's completely different to unused pull from and opened oil bottle that has had the lid put back on

    • +1

I didn't neg you. As a guy above said, mechanics open a big drum barrel and leave it for long time. In my opinion, just keep opened oil bottle close and in good condition.

      • All good, I was just wondering so just putting it out here for someone with more facts.

  • 2% cashback with Cash rewards too (every little bit counts)!

Damn just bought at supercheap for $80

    • buy this and return with the old receipt

    • Same… my next oil change won't feel so good because of this.

  • +1

How long is oil good for once I crack the seal on the bottle? Only change oil once a year :/

  • Might be a noob question but can anyone tell me if this would be suitable in a Mazda cx7 diesel turbo? From the repco site I just got 'may not fit your vehicle' when I put in car rego
