    Only 50hz though.

  • Nice price.

  • Only 50hz and not 3d. I prefer the samsung deal which was $750 with good guys voucher.

  • You don't happen to play TrackMania 2 do you Pepsi Max, I mean MepsiPax??

    • Nah sorry mate, i'm usually MepsiPax13 on games. Never played trackmania either!

  • Insane. Just wish there's more room at home!

  • +16

Great deal, might have to invest on one of these. 3D is over rated.

    • -8

3d is definitely not over rated, although my 2 years old sony 40' lcd didnt have this function.

    • +15

I agree, i would much rather a beautiful IPS panel with excellent viewing angles and better colour reproduction than some stupid 3D gimmick.

If i want to watch a 3D movie, i'll watch it at a cinema. But even then it bugs me after a while and i start wanting a clear picture.

    • +3

"Over rated"? Strange. Seems every thread i go to being anti-3d is almost as hip-to-be-cool as being anti-4wd, or proclaiming oneself an (internet) atheist.

Over rated is the last thing i'd call it. Though 'overdone' would be an apt description for the random, and seemingly endless whining about it that seems to be here there and everywhere of late.

"I will not watch 3d!" proclaims someone. Seven other come in to give that person hardy back-slaps, offer them a cup of tea and a scone, and intone "You're alright by me lad; i knew you were ok".

      • Yeah, I guess being against suburbanites driving cars that block your view, cut you off, and create lots of pollution; or not believing in unprovable mythological entities from the bronze age, is merely, "hip-to-be-cool."

        • -5

Not believing doesn't bother me, nor does disliking one or another particular model of car (haven't stated my position on either topic; there's no reason for me to) - it's the sanctimoniousness of the tone it's done with that does. I'm not a fan of smuggery, or angry 'group think' (which is, yes, ironically noticeably hip-to-be-cool - and laden with cliches - if you're witnessing it from the outside).

A tone you pull off quite nicely in that little rant.

        • +2

You got it wrong, it's hip to be square

        • ed:(del) Nah, leave it there. Time for topic to die really.

      • +4

Stop fighting lads - now I'm out of scones, so how about pikelets instead?
Seriously, don't get too worked up about it - we'd be a boring lot if we all didn't have varied opinions! :)

        • -7

ed: On second thoughts. probably childish getting into it. Good luck to all those who want 3d removed as an optional extra, or whatever it is you think you're mission is…

      • +6

It's not so much a matter of "I will not watch 3D", it's more "I will not pay extra just to watch 3D". This is OzBargain after all, we're all cheap bastards ;)

        • lol. See that i can groove with.

    • +7

I don't care for 3D at all, but I still think 3D capable TV's are worthwhile. To be able to produce 3D, the TV needs to meet certain standards that usually mean it's quite a good quality TV.
It's a little bit of a cheat when looking for a good new TV.

  • stupid question: so I taken it will not record TV programs onto external USB drive?

    • Not stupid, most TV's come with this nowadays but this one seems like it doesn't looking at the Panasonic site:

USB HDD / SD Card Recording: —

I think that's a no, given it had the same stuff marked for the 3D features. Will play stuff off hard drives though.

EDIT: Also has (the) wifi(s) and can stream stuff over your network :o that's pretty sweet for the price.

      • hmmm

  • +1

This is a much better deal than the Big W catalogue price of $848 http://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/televisions/led-tv/bpnBIG…

  • No stock in SA.

    • I picked one up from JB muno para at 2 o clock when they had 7 in stock

  • So you guys actually think this is better than the Samsung 51 inch full HD plasma? Coz I am about to head down to JB for it.

    • I think it's generally agreed that bigger is better, and the 51" will definitely be bigger. Just don't tip it ;-)

    • Definately not better than samsung. For $750 with good guys voucher you are getting a bigger screen, samsung name, much faster refresh rate and 3D which you may not use much but is nice to have for some games.

      • +1

Not sure i'd agree with with 'Samsung name' over Panasonic's (didn't neg you, though). Rest of it makes sense -esp Hz bit. Though i find there's also subtle differences in all these brands/tv's in the way they handle colour etc. Might pay to view both options first hand and see if one just generally visually rocks your boat more. In store settings can be flubbed and make it difficult, but even allowing for that there's usually an inherent lean to red/green/yellow etc on each tv which, contrary to what the guy in the store will say, can't really be changed.

      • Coolies….I bought the Samsung one already. It comes with one 3D glass. Now I need to source for another. Any idea where to get the cheapest?

        • Sorry, can't really help you much. Had a Samsung last year, but has ended up with my sister (nothing wrong with it; just cabinet troubles in lounge area led to space issues). That one came with four sets of glasses free, so never had to buy any. My slightly smaller Panasonic is 3d to, but third gen glasses (just one pair to try) had to be bought from US…

Two stores might be decent prices are Videopro.com.au, and digitalcentre.com.au. Former i got my tv from; was good experience. Latter i've looked up before for other items and they've seemed reasonable, but haven't ever actually bought anything from them myself.

          Good luck with it.

    • With the panasonic you will gain the Smart TV Access (however good their smart tv system is I don't know)
LED-LCD IPS Panel (Best viewing Angles, Plasma's Glass Screen Reflects like all hell if you are in a bright living room)
Power Consumption: 260kWh/annum for Panasonic compared to 539 kWh/annum for the Samsung is significant.
And the extra $50 CASH ;)

The Samsung will give you the bigger screen, the plasmas typically have a better refresh rate and you also have 3D which… you can make your own mind up on if you need it or not ;)

It all really depends on how much you value the extra screen real estate, where the tv is sitting (bright room?) and whether the 3D or smart TV means more to you.

    • The Samsung will be much better for movie viewing at night time. The motion, color and lighting should be much better.

  • +4

    50Hz kills it.

  • Do smart TVs such as this one have browsers and/or the ability to play catch-up TV over the internet, even if they don't have a specific app for it?

    • A quick google search says it only has apps for ABC iView and Channel 7's catch up service.
There isnt really smart tv's with a full browser experience AFAIK, though Sony does have a modified version of Google Chrome on some of their Smart TVs i believe.

  • +4

SmartTV is more of a gimick than 3D IMO. Who really needs to access internet via their tv, nearly everyone has a mobile thesedays or a computer nearby in the house..

    • ya but tv screens usually bigger than comaputer or mobile screens; matters when watching online videos.

    • I don't mind it as an extra, but in practice it tends to be painfully slow, awkward and, beyond fiddling a bit first day for kicks, doesn't get much use. This is on two tv's i've tried it with now.

3d, well, it's a love it or hate it i guess (the latter crowd obviously being more vocal). Got a free 3d Bluray player and a couple of movies with tv's. Where it doesn't work, and ghosts and what not, i'm not a fan - it actually detracts. Where it suits the subject matter and the image comes together well - eg. Coraline/Monsters V Aliens/Tangled - it looks terrific, and for mine, really does/can add something to immersion (the loss in brightness in these films is less than the gain from depth imo, particularly with some of the brighter third gen glasses). It's one of those things that's going to depend on the tech, the movie, and the susceptibility of individual user to the '3d effect', though - there's everything from potentially very good to very bad experiences with it. But as long as it's just an option, as far as i'm concerned, can't see the problem; all good.

      • Coraline is brilliant.

        • Agree. Been my best experience with the tech. Charming movie anyway, but whoa, in 3d, the sort of shoe-box 'stick your hand in the there and pick them up' feel… is just incredible. Almost as if it's filmed on puppetry stage.

    • The equivalent on our main TV gets a bit of use now and then, the lady of the house finds it nice to watch stuff when ironing or folding clothes or other household duties, since the big screen means she can still be moving around to do things.

  • +1

For LCD, it's best to find something with at least 100hz. But this is a good no thrills TV set nonetheless.

  • Nice TV but if you read the specs closely you will see it has a "IPS" panel not an "IPS-alpha" panel like the better model and the 32inch version. IPS-alpha is later technology.

There are some owner comments on the web complaining about viewing angles on this set which I find strange as it is still IPS.

    Anyone own one?

    • +1

I picked one up today, viewing angle is great all round.

same brand, same size, same price
    but better quality
    Plasma FTW

    • How?

      • faster response
        true black
        greater contrast

          IPS>Plasma

          No.

    • You may wanna check the electricity bill at the end of the month :D

      • 405kw vs 260kw (energyrating.gov.au)
assume that around $0.18 @ kWh
        ONLY $35EACH YEAR!!!!

        much?

        • +1

          TOO MUCH FOR OZBARGAIN

        • I pay $0.24 @ kWh

        • +3

Quick, someone post him a power supplier bargain!!

    • Definately agree that plasma is the best. My hitachi just runs rings around my other lcds in terms of picture quality and screen size. And it was made 2 years before the lcds.

  • Is this TV better than the LG 42LV5500 listed on ozbargain a few weeks ago

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/53696

    • Think the LG has a better refresh rate otherwise much the same. you would be impressed with both.

but personally after seeing the great samsung plasma deal I will be waiting until xmas and hoping to get a 42" LG or Samsung LED with 3D for about $700

  • This is a sweet deal, pity it is only 50Hz. And 3D is a gimmick, no doubt.

  • Just got back from jb they put extra disc 10% for this bring it to 628

    • did you haggle to get that or did they just give it to you?
or did you buy an extended warranty, extra etc so they lowered it?

    • any chance you can explain this? any receipt at all?
