Gel Blasters - Anyone Had Experience with These?

Thinking of getting a couple of these for some fun with with mates

Anyone got any experience with them? Are they any good?

Are there some particular brands / models that are better (more accurate) than others? I'd be happy to spend a bit more on something with a little better range/accuracy…

Cheers

  • Looks like a fun toy. But, they're currently illegal in Victoria.

      Yeah but what isn't?

    same

  • Are they basically BB guns or airsoft?

    • Similar. They fire a slightly larger projectile that is softer (Google “orbeez”). Airsoft are usually CO2 powered, where gel-blasters are usually powered by an electric motor and a pneumatic plunger.

The importation and possession of imitation firearms and some gel blasters is restricted in most Australian states. In the state of NSW, ‘Gel Blasters’ are considered Firearms as per the definition in the Act and require the holder to be licensed and for those weapons to be registered due to the fact they have the same appearance as a real firearm.

OP - Stupid idea to get these.

    • -1

      stupid ignorant and biased comment

      • +2

Not really. They are illegal in most states.

  • Tons on eBay, more xpensive ones are better quality, they get real expensive too

Would pay money to see a grown man playing army tho 🤣

it would be something like playing paint ball, wouldn't it?

      • Paintball is actually quite adult friendly

Gel blasters are total kids toys 🤦‍♂️

  • Sounds like a good way to get Daniel Shaver'ed.

    • Absolute tragedy.

      • aka “The Simon Says killing”

        • The fact that he was found not guilty and was allowed to rejoin the force only to then retire with benefits due to 'PTSD' really does it for me.

No idea how airsoft rifles are illegal but gel blasters are not - both can cause damage (yes, BBs can hurt more but both can cause severe damage to your eyes which is a lot more important than a scratch on your arm), and both imitate real life firearms to the point where most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference (IMO, the real danger)

I've always wanted airsoft to come back to Australia but for the sake of public safety, I was happy to do without. But now we have a huge influx of these cheap gel blasters so I'm honestly left clueless as to what the government is thinking :/

    • It’s be okay if they didn’t look like real rifles. I mean a bit more okay than it is.

      • +2

Why couldn't they just make them look like nerf blasters? Because that would take away 90% of the buying appeal for most people who crave the milsim fantasy

        • Because we can’t even have the good Nerf blasters here in Australia either… All the good models from Nerf are banned in Australia.

I've been hit by paintball, Airsoft and gel blaster without padded clothing.

Paintball - 100% chance of bruising but nothing close to contact sports with elbow wielding people.

Airsoft - small chance to bruise but a nice little sting for a few seconds.

Gel blaster - no chance of feeling it under clothes even if you're watching the shots get fired. No chance feeling it on bare skin if you were moving.

      (Wear eye protection.)

Yeah, my point was that being hit by either airsoft or gel blasters doesn't matter at all unless you're hit in the eyes. As obvious as it would be to wear eye protection, there will always be kids or even bystanders (because of kids playing where they shouldn't) that don't wear them and end up with vision loss. Though rare, these cases can happen and by then it's too late.

Though my main worry is the more likely and much easier use of imitation weapons for real crime (e.g. robbery or even kidnapping). Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to require registration (much like drone registration) for purchasing them? No doubt there'll be someone to say that it woud be a violation of their freedom of course….

  • Remember those things they put into indoor plant pots? Those little gel things?

These "guns" have a battery powered flipper to lob those things at "high" speeds.

It's a kids toy. Only an idiot nanny government confuses it with a firearm (but supersoakers and NERF is okay). thevofa also happens to believe this thing is related to killing so that kinda helps my point.

Just use that money for a couple of paintball sessions.

I have one they are good for some fun. I would recommend a rifle like a m4ss(search up on google) but if you want a pistol go with a std 1911. One more thing is i used a website called tactical edge and it arrived with no problems.

  • Anyone here have any experience with this one?

    • I would've thought they'd have an orange muzzle on them. Did you buy them like that?

      • The vector (biggest one) has a black out kit I got off aliex for $5. Others I painted a few orange bits or got a hop up.

  • Only if you are in QLD… otherwise your FUN will be in prison fighting off unwanted attention - sometimes you win, sometimes you lose

I think these and airsoft should be allowed in Victoria. If we require that the muzzle be coloured blaze orange or something like that so it's clear it's not a real firearm, then what's the issue? In California that's what they require, and they're probably more liberal/progressive/blah than we are in Vic.

  • Think of the environment!

  • They jam very very easily.
Then you'll be tempted to do some mods so it will actually work.
Replacing barrel, trigger motor, feeder, etc. etc. etc.
Your $100 toy is now a $300 toy that still spits wet pellets to 15 meters away.

And, just in case, remember these toys may be lethal …you might be shot at if the local authority thinks IT IS a firearm …

Target shooting is a lot of fun.
Join your local Pistol Club and practice with their pistols: airgun, .22, 9mm . Whatever.
Far more restricted but far more fun.
Never know, you might be our next Olympic star.

      hmm..you make some persuasive points.

I actually already shoot at the range occasionally, but I've got an urge to shoot at my friends, and not kill them, hence my interest in these things :-)

        Slingshot to the rescue!!

        Stealth quiet and concealable.

"Ammo" could be anything found around.

Easy to dispose of … and untraceable if found.

        Unbeatable!

        :-P

  • Have a read over at /r/GelBlasters as there appears to be quite a few Australians commenting on stores & beginner models.
