Pretty good deal wish it is 2k though

  • +22

1080p on 27 inch is a no go in my books

    • Perfect for the kids that play Minecraft though.

      • +2

They dont need 144 hz in that case too. Overkill.

      • +1

Your kids have higher visual acuity than you. So, if you think DPI is woeful, it'd be worse for them.

    • +1

      Agree 100%
Somehow its that golden spec that nobody has. 27" QHD high refresh rate. Then if you do find it, is it in stock?

Bought a new monitor in June and the part that made it hard was that I didn't want curved.
I compromised and didn't bother with height adjustable.

Acer Nitro VG272UP QHD 144Hz FeeSync IPS 27in for $620ish

      • 27", 1440p, IPS, 120hz+ is an in-demand set of specifications. That's why everyone went nuts over the Dell S2721DGF when it was $535 (and later $508). The Viewsonic vx2758-2kp-mhd was also popular when it was showing up in deals around $400.

    • +1

I agree too, I used to have a 27 inch 1080p but "downgraded" to a 24 inch 1080p. For general web browsing and watching video at 1080p, 24 inch is way better. Gaming I'm undecided.

1440p should be a minimum for 27 inch imo

  • +1

What would be the cheapest QHD 27 inch with USB C monitor currently available?

    • let me know as well please, currently hunting for one

    • +2

USB-C might make that one tricky.

    • +1

What's the benefit of USB C over display port? I've seen the request several times. I haven't bought a monitor in years

      • +1

All new Macbooks need USB C

        • So use a USB C hub with display port/HDMI and pass through charging?

      • +2

I got the Dell U2721DE which has powered USB C.

The monitor acts like a hub.

I plug in my Lenovo via the USB C and it powers my laptop + whatever is connected
to the monitor ie. keyboard, mouse, ethernet, speakers

Apparently you can daisy chain the monitor but I've not tried this.

Reminder; the Dell deal from August 1 has people still waiting for delivery. Most likely end of Oct early Nov. I will not be giving this company my money again, might consider buying from a reseller only.

    • +1

I've always had a positive experience buying from Dell direct. If people don't want to wait, pretty sure it wouldn't be hard for them to cancel their order and get a refund?

      • +4

order should be fulfilled by first / second week of Oct. we were not expecting the large volume of order back in August. Sorry about it

        • +1

Thanks for the info, is it true the bulk of the remaining orders will be coming by ship?

        • +1

I sure wish the company would actually communicate this officially, or even just clearly. My order status screen says end of October, but the most recent seemingly generic email I’ve received, says end of September (30th) … and now you and others in the last thread say mid October? - I’m not sure why the votes are going the way they are on these comments here, because it’s a seriously sub-standard customer experience. Short of the singular account of a positive experience above, seems to be fairly consistent across the business.

why the votes are going the way they are

The project management triangle (or iron triangle) is often succinctly put as: "Good, fast, cheap. Choose two"

It seems most commenters on Ozbargain are happy to chose good and cheap with regards to the Dell S2721DGF.

            • @Stoz: :D …It sure seems they have allowed themselves a bit of slippage on the S2721DGF project. Pity about the piss poor stakeholder management plan.

Yeh my dad bought a refurb monitor from the factory outlet. He had it in a week. Unfortunately it died in a week. Dell replaced it right away with a brand new monitor and had a courier pick up the dead display.

Good experience if you ask me.

Doesnt stop people waiting months for their deals having the right to be pissed. But I think if Dell had direct control then they would do something about it.

        • -3

I mean, wouldn’t an even good-er experience have been receiving a non faulty product the first time around? Is it reasonable to expect a level of QA on a product that deemed a refurb? I would have thought so?

        • I had to take Dell to consumer affairs before they provided a refund on a purchased new faulty monitor. They were saying all I was going to get was a refurb - take it or leave it. I guess it depends.

      • +1

Third positive dell experience here. Computer, two laptops and two screens all bought directly from Dell
Have been really happy with performance and support thus far.

    • +10

How do you suggest they should’ve handled it? They sold like 2000 monitors, completely demolishing their stock, on what was most likely a price error. Seems pretty good to me that they’re fulfilling everyone’s orders, and if you don’t want to wait, you can simply cancel.

      • +1

i've had my date extended 3 times, they should have capped how many monitors were available for sale based on their channel checks. they stuffed up, they are a multi billion dollar companies - they should have oversight on this

        • I agree it should've been capped, but I, and probably many others, are very glad it wasn't because then we all would've missed out. The people who aren't glad can simply cancel, no harm done, save for the inconvenience of waiting for a refund. I still don't see the issue here.

          • +1

@dano: the issue is i've been baited into waiting 3 times now, each time extending. I feel like i've invested my time and money and it hurts to pull the plug now. frustrating experience.

    • +2

I was one of the ones that ordered and I have a different outlook. It was a great price, they communicated the delay and gave us the option to cancel! Happy with how it was handled, realistically not sure what they could have done better.

    • Are you actually serious? As far as I know, they didn't cancel any orders, and maintained quite good communication with everyone who made an order. Logistically, I think they've done admirably considering how much traffic that deal received.

      • +1

Maybe I’m a little jaded as one of those affected by that order, but my opinion is somewhat different. I would have to respectfully disagree that they have maintained ‘good communication’ (in fact, my only personal inquiries went unanswered). In fact, the opposite, because I have 3 (4 if you include unofficial comments on ozbargain) potential delivery dates for my monitor. Perhaps I am an edge case and others haven’t experienced the same, which I will happily concede if others offer a different account.

While you might find it ‘admirable’, their response to the order. I would suggest that it was a failing of the company that led itself to selling more products than it could successfully deliver in a REASONABLE timeframe, as is required to trade in Australia.

Of course, I haven’t cancelled my order…. yet. But I certainly won’t advocate for dells customer service.

        • +1

If you have ever had to deal with acer customer service you'll soon realise that dell is leagues ahead, so much so it's not even fair to compare the two
          .

    1080p lol

  • +2

    FHD@2020. No no no

  • What are everybody's thoughts on the s2721ds.
    https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-27-monitor-s2721ds/apd/…
Price isn't at historic $370ish low, but seems like good value at $439 delivered.
Looking for a third monitor that doubles as a gaming screen for the switch and xbox

    • Not sure which model Xbox you're talking about, but for the switch you might be better off with a 1080p monitor (either at 24" or 27") as it can't go higher than 1080p (there is a rumoured 4K switch but who knows).

  • -1

I can't understand how 1080p can be called a 'gaming' monitor

    • +2

have you looked at steam stats ?

85% of ppl play on displays with resolution of 1080p or lower.

      • Yeah but you would hope those are not all brand new purchases lol

    • +2

What's wrong with 1080p on a 'gaming' monitor?

Higher framerate and better graphics settings for the cost of hardware. Yes 1440p has more detail but how much does that really matter? It's only strategy/MOBA type games where I get significant benefit with 1440p honestly. "Scenic" type games are nice but I wouldn't begrudge anyone not spending >50% more for it. In fact I'd rather the opposite for racing games.

If 4K became possible to run on mainstream hardware tomorrow, does that mean 1440p is not good for 'gaming' anymore?

      • Absolutely. Once 4k is mainstream, 1440p will be old tech, that's the way it goes.

  • Almost had a panic attack, thought it was the S2721DGF before double-checking model number.

  • +3

Frankly not really worth the price even if it is on sale.
I would really wait for the S2721DGF before pulling the trigger
    1080p 27 inch isn't comparable to 1440P 27 with better colours

    • Yeah but isn't that really expensive thoo?

  • +1

PLS bring us another IPS 27inch 144hz and 1440p and I'll bite xD

    • we need to fullfill all aug order 1st sorry, but it will come back :)

      • thanks now im back lurking in the shadows waiting to pounce once opportunity presents itself.

  • +1

Forget 1080p at 27”… it’s curved and VA too. Literally the worst of all worlds (okay, it’s high refresh, I’ll give it that).

  • pretty good deal i have been seeing ppl selling their FHD 144hz used monitors for $300. VA cant be that bad ? I sit infront of the monitor not at the side right ?

    • Better contrast at the expense of poorer clarity (especially at low pixel density) and colour accuracy. I tried a VA once and couldn’t stand the fuzzy text.

TN is the one with poor viewing angles.

  • What you think about the "Acer VG271US 27" 165Hz QHD 1ms HDR400 FreeSync IPS Gaming Monitor" ?

    • Avoid Acer dude, it's not worth the gamble. They're quality is inconsistent and you're going to want to pick a god and pray you don't have to RMA/warranty anything through them.

      • Thanks

        • Can confirm, bought an FHD 24" and was horribly washed out. Their 240hz monitors have had the same issues.
