this was my first post. Please advice where I was wrong and I will fix it

Hi mate. First thing, you need to put it in the right category (Financial in this case). Also change the min spend to 3k. Good deal.

        • +1

Fixed..$3k..I had classified it in Financial.

Happy first post! Please read the rules before posting and I’m sure you will find lots of help in this site

      • You can click on "revisions" and see what you could do better next time:
*AmEx Explorer Credit Card 150k Sign up bonus, 120k 1st Yr and 30k 2nd yr
*American Express Explorer Credit Card ($395 p.a), Bonus 120k Pts (After $3k Spent), 30k Pts (After 2nd Yr) + $400 Travel Credit

      But this is rude

      • -6

I disagree, I was just being honest

        • +1

Honest and rude. It can be both. For it to be just honest, you could have explained how to improve the post.

  • The title should say 120k bonus points after 3k spent, not 30k spent.

    • thanks..fixed it

  • Good deal, Hmm but this or the Qantas ultimate, which is better.

    • +1

You can't transfer these points to Qantas.
Decide what you want to do with the points first

      • You can transfer these points to Qantas. It's a circuitous route though and I don't recommend it. First transfer your points to Marriott Bonvoy and then transfer to Qantas.

This is the most flexible currency in points - Can transfer to many airlines such as Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, hotels etc. I am accuring these points for singapore airlines. However, if you only want to use it in Oz, You can use the points for hotel stays too.

  • Do companion cards count as holding an amex express card?

    • Wondering too

    • Supplementary do you mean? Then no

      • yes, supplementary is the one. ok cool thanks

  • Wonder what they will do with the $xxx travel credit if we are in this kind of state where we cant travel international nor domestic due borders are not opening?
I heard they extended last years’.

    • +1

i didnt know they extended last years, if its true that's great as i was going to use it for local car or hotel booking so i didn't forfeit it.

  • Devo, literally just got this card last month with 60k bonus points…. ah well.

    • +1

      I know the feeling
I referred my missus last month, so net-net got 120k with the referral bonus and now going to close my card before the annual fee hits

      • So the points credit well before the annual fee comes?

  • Slightly off-topic but here it goes.
I have this card and travel credits expire 4th of Dec… (I managed to lose them once being forgetful). Since my wife is stuck overseas, planning to travel, especially with current restrictions is hard.
Has anyone had any luck getting the travel credit validity extended?… apart from that one time when Amex extended ones expiring between Mar and Jun 20 to end of 2020.

For anyone wondering, here's the response from Amex in my email:

"We are extending your American Express Travel Credit

For Travel Credits expiring between 1 October 2020 and 31 December 2020 that have not been redeemed, we will be extending the expiry date to 31 March 2021. Remember, you can book for travel up to 10 months in advance. There is no need for you to call or take any action, the extended expiry date will be automatically reflected in your online account within 8 weeks of the current expiry date of your Travel Credit. All other terms and conditions for your annual Travel Credit remain the same."

  • another off-topic question -
My annual fee is due later this month, but my annual travel credit of $400 has come through in my account
If I redeem it now and close my account before the annual fee due date will I escape the fee and get $400 free from Amex?
Is that a loophole? Has anyone else had a similar scenario with their account? Thinking if I should check with Amex first before redeeming

    • Yes a well known loophole. Go for it.

      • Did not know this. Does it occur only after you've held the card for 1 year or can occur when you first get the card?

        • Occurs around the 11 month mark.

          • @DrRalph: Does it stack? I.e. if you don't redeem the travel credit by month 11 do they issue another travel credit which means you have $800 to spend?

  • Around the 11 month mark.

So if you're smart, you use the travel credit in the first few months and then again in the 11th month before you cancel to avoid paying the new annual fee.

  • Is it possible to subscribe to the Explorer card meet the min. spend to get the 120k points and then change to Platinum Edge card (3pts/$1 for supermarket/petrol vs Explorer 2pts/$1)?

    • +1

Yes you could even keep both if you wanted

  • Does anyone apply for multiple AMEX cards in the hope that they can quality for multiple point offers?

    • Those days are long gone.
Used to get double points if you applied for a personal card and again if you got a business card.. No more

      • Ah I see. thanks for letting me know :)

  • How much is 120k points worth?

    • +2

Couple of toasters or 1 way business class to Singapore ;)

    • +1

This will vary quite a lot depending upon how you use your points. For me it will equal 5 or 6 nights in a 4 star hotel in the US.

  • Can't believe this deal isn't more popular, the referral link for the Explorer card has the wrong details though. You'll get the same 'up to 150k' points if you apply through an OzBargainer's link, the 60k for the referee is wrong/outdated.

Also, don't forget to transfer your points to Hilton/Marriott/Kirsflyer today to benefit from the conversion bonus points (ends 31/12).

    • +1

KF has been extended to mid Jan

Anymore info on the Hilton bonus please? 40%?

      • With Australia issued Amex cards, the standard transfer ratio between Amex and Hilton is 2:1 (2 Amex points = 1 Hilton point). Until 31st 2020 December though, the 25% transfer bonus promo improves the transfer rate to 8:5 (8 Amex points = 5 Hilton points).

        • thanks, not worth at 25% for me

          • @daft009: It's good if you want to top up your existing points to a round number for a hotel stay redemption (ie I was 10k points short with Marriott and they're rather expensive to buy).

    • Unless you're definitely sure of an upcoming travel then it makes sense to apply; otherwise would be a 50/50 gamble of using the travel credit IMO which applies to me currently.

I'd bite if there was a cashback similar to the Amex Qantas deal ending tomorrow as I'm after KF points rather than Qantas, so will hold out for a bit longer.

    • So will I get more points signing up through a referral link, or not?

  • This is the referral link 'bonus':

    Welcome Bonus
    110,000 Membership Rewards bonus points1
when you apply by 13 January 2021, are approved and spend $3,000 on purchases on your new Card in the first 3 months of Card Membership.

    This is the standard bonus:

120k Bonus points after min. spend $3k. Additional 30k Bonus Points after 2nd year annual fee charged.

Unless I'm missing something, do not use a referral link!

    • I’m ‘giving’ people 120k + 30k through my referral link, which is the same as the generic offer. So if you’re going to apply, it’s nice to use an OzBargain link I would say.

      • but through the referral link, you're getting 110k not 120k?

        • Shouldn’t be the case. I’ve tried a few links myself, they’re all the same 120k + 30k for the 2nd year.
