Waiting for the education store 30% off for the s21 series. Heard that Snapdragon 888 this year is overheating and only marginally better than 865. So hopefully the new Exyons 2100 will surprise us this year

    • +3

I thought read somewhere that performance may be quite close but battery use better with exyons, so it may actually be better option for once.

No wonder S20 Was selling like Fish n chips

    • Glad I picked up a S20 FE 5G in Oct 2020 when signing up a JB Telstra plan with Galaxy earbuds. Everything is good except the touchscreen sometimes did not sense my touching.

      • Everything is good except the touchscreen sometimes did not sense my touching

I nearly bought one from Partner store 35% off but there were so many reports of this (and patches that didn't seem fix it), it put me off an otherwise great sounding phone.

        • Unless you are a mobile gamer, I think you've missed out. The touchscreen issue is still there. Unless you are playing games, it is barely noticeable.

          • +2

            @kron: "it is barely noticeable."

I d nt pl. much. Gam. B. I. Do us.

            Oh. FFS!

      • Interesting. I've been on a s10e for a while now and just got given a iPhone 11 for work during lockdown. Not sure if its down to screen size or what but I have definitely noticed that the iPhone 'feels' like the touch pad is more accurate. Not sure if its hardware or software but its something I notice now when moving between phones.

Would reckon 865 or 865+ chip would be a better choice. The performance for will be closed to 865+ when 888 hits its thermal wall.

  • +12

Waiting for the same twats as last year to complain with their benchmarks that the Exynos chip is worse because it's 3% slower in Shitbench 4.2.5 despite nobody noticing a performance difference since the S9

I was waiting for Samsung defence force to ignore all the problems that S20 has but then I noticed your post. S20+ was the worst phone I've owned, I've been told by some that I'm a Sammy hater even though I've owned pretty much every phone they've made since S2 as well as bought them for my wife. I've been told that I must have a dud and I've been called names by the less intelligent folk but my phone has a terrible battery, it overheats when using split screen apps within 10 minutes (less if they are games) curved screens suck, I've had enough of them now and am tired of them breaking so easily compared to flat screens and reception was poor compared to other phones on the same network in my household. I've now replaced it with a phone that cost half of what the S20+ did and I'm so much happier with it (Pixel 4a 5G)

      • Well that is a mid range phone, so you would hope it costs much less.

        • The wireless charging is the only feature that I personally used and miss from S20+. The faster screen Hz was never something I used as it came at the expense of resolution and a major hit to battery usage. The mid range phone though performs better than the S20+ ever did.

          • @[Deactivated]: Oh for sure, just miss out on premium things like water resistance, wireless charging and reverse wireless charging, old gorilla Glass, plastic build etc etc.

            • +1

@onlinepred: I'll take plastic over all glass any day, who doesn't put a case on their phone anyway? You're paying for premium features that are just in fact gimmicks at times. You drop a plastic phone and it's fine, your drop a glass phone and it's $285 for a new glass back, $300 for the screen. (quoted $585 to replace front and back on my S20+ last week by Sammy authorised repairers, it won't make much more if I did that and sold it so I'm just going to use it for something else)

              • @[Deactivated]: I don't put a case on my phones, I don't drop my phones. My old man dropped his 4a (not 5g), and the back cracked from the bottom corner, screen shattered due to flex. It was unrepairable. It's the difference of a steel frame.

For sure, if you don't need features, you can buy budget phones with a fearureset that works for you, and save money!

Also $800 is almost what i paid for my wife's S10 when it was released.

                • +1

@onlinepred: I paid $650 for this, my wife has the S10 and is happy enough with it. I've dropped my Samsung from my pocket whilst sitting on a stool in the kitchen onto the wooden floor and smashed both back and front. Whenever I've dropped one I've expected it broken and usually am right. I don't understand how somebody can live life without dropping a phone at some point. That's literally inhuman.

                  • +1

@[Deactivated]: I accept your classification that I am super human.

                    • +1

@onlinepred: Nah, I said inhuman, a superhuman would have noticed the difference :p

I'm not here defending Samsung in your case I'm just … fed up with all the shit the Exy phones get for some reason.

Curved screens blow, I wish they'd give it up already or make the curve less intense, it feels more premium though.

        • Rumours say No curve on s21

        • What is wrong with Exynos?
According to reports the new Exynos performs just as well as the Snapdragon variant.

    • +1

To be fair though, my Exynos S10e battery life is almost half that of what my mate with import S10e SD gets. Also my phone gets crazy hot after just browsing the web.

    • Less power efficient, overheats quicker, less performance. All justified complaints

      • Only time will tell if the new Exynos performs just as well as the Snapdragon equivalent.
According to early benchmarks and tests, it suggests massive battery improvements and performance.

Are the specs fully out yet and the image?

    • +1

      Yep, we know nothing official.

      • Why would anyone in their right mind pre-order something that they dont even know yet :L

    • +1

Pictures and most of the specs are on here

  • +4

There's somewhere between a 100%-100% chance that they'll be a better deal on the new S21 series in the next week.

  • +1

888 does support project treble, Even though I would wait to see how new chipset is going to perform, I will only opt for chipsets enrolled in project treble if planning to get new phones.
For the money spend on recent flagships it should keep going for at least 4-5 years.

  • +1

Doesn't appear to be target as I clicked the link OP gave and signed up for pre-registration.
Unlikely I'll take it though as I have a tonne of JB Hi-Fi gift cards to use lol

For those unaware. It's very likely that the S20 Ultra will come with new Galaxy Buds Pro and a smart tag for pre-order. The Ultra also has S-Pen support this year but does not come with one, so this $100 accessory voucher would be perfect for buying an S-Pen if you're going for the Ultra.

    • Thanks I'll get a moderator to fix the title.

    • S21 ultra you mean?

      • Yeah lol I wrote that comment with very little sleep

  • -2

Hi I have S20+ 5G when it released and I am happy it. What's the issues you having

  • -4

Lol Australia gimped yet again.. Other countries get Galaxy Buds Pro or a Galaxy SmartTag for free

    • You need to learn how to read…. it says "MAY BE" not "WILL BE".

  • Anybody got their voucher yet?

    • Nothing.

    • I received my code.

  • For those looking for a spare code, please comment in the code giveaway megathread, not in the comments here. Thanks.

  • Does anyone know if the $50 newsletter code can be stacked with the $100 accessories code?

    • Yeah it can

      • Thanks Mate.
