I have a Panasonic LX5 not exactly aDSLR but has tons of options. Would this course help at all?

    • +1 vote

You have a hybrid which is exactly the same principles as an SLR, I used a hybrid in the course as well, a Canon g10, the course will be fine and if it isn't there is a money back guarantee, cheers

    Done, nice checkout system:)

Ordered one last night. Excited to use my eos1100d.

Slightly off-topic: Rep can you please recommend me a decent (not expensive) second lens for my 1100d? I currently have a 18-55 and need something longer.

  • +1 vote

For sure, I usually like to shoot with primes but they are pretty pricey over that length but a decent lens and a very decent price is the 55-200mm, if you check Amazon you will see its actually the second best selling lens on the entire website after the Nifty Fifty(50mm 1.8), I would advise to buy the 50mm as well, its cheap and the difference between that and your 18-55 is immense…

If you are a bit more flush then splash out on the Sigma 50mm 1.4, the difference this has over the 1.8 is amazing, one extra stop means you can shoot in half the light, I would also suggest the 30mm 1.4 from Sigma as well, the 60d is a small frame camera and has a magnification of 1.6 so the 50mm lens you put on it actually come out at 80mm, the problem is that you always have to step backwards to shoot group photos due to the magnification, the 30mm Sigma x 1.6 give you roughly 50mm which is your normal eyes perception.. enjoy the course, cheers

    • +1 vote

so where is the best(cough cheapest cough) place to get the 50mm 1.8?

      • +1 vote

right here on Oz bargains, i saw a great deal for one here for under $90,,http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/58679

    • +1 vote

      Yes I'm Steven Riley

  • +2 votes

Are you the guy in the video, or just a re-seller?

    • +1 vote

Yes I'm the guy in the video, I'd love to have the luxury of resellers but the price of the DVD would be around 50-60 dollars just to pay the middle men..

  • +1 vote

    Hi

Just to confirm that this offer is running for all of January?

Also, does the DVD give you any information about lens selection? I'm trying to learn what the lens specs mean and how they are applied in practical situations.

    • +1 vote

After the DVD you will know about all the settings on how to set up your camera which include Aperture and shutter speed, these values are placed on the lens, for example a 50mm 1.8 has an maximum Aperture of 1.8, its slightly confusing but the lower the number means the hole in the lens(lens opening(called Aperture)) opens wider, thats why the 50mm 1.8 lens is so good, the hole in the lens is so wide that it lets in tonnes of light as opposed to the kit lens that have a maximum aperture 3.5, each stop of light means its let in twice as much light, its all explained in more detail in the course, cheers

      • +1 vote

        Thanks for your comments Steven.

I just placed an order 1 minute ago.

Look forward to watching the DVD this weekend. Hopefully it will help me get more out of my Pentax k500d that I've mainly used on Auto.

Recommendations for Must have lenses for Nikon DSLR? for hobby nad learning

    • +1 vote

Hi Bozter, there is actually a really good Nikon lens which is the same as the Nifty Fifty, meaning the Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens, its a little bit more pricy than the Canon lens but you can usually find it for under $150 dollars, well worth it..

Just a comment for the rep/poster - I think it's fantastic that you're investing the time to respond to just about everybody. It's rare to see nowadays! Keep up the good work

    • +1 vote

Exciting! Ordered one too. Thanks, Steven!

    • +1 vote

      on its way, cheers

  • +1 vote

Heh, peer pressure, I've just bought one - I've actually done a photography course recently as well, so I'm not sure if there's going to be anything new… but given the rave comments, and reasonable price, I'll give it ago.

    • +1 vote

Even if you learn only a handful of new things its worth it, most people spend thousands of dollars on the latest and greatest cameras and lenses and still don't know how to use them which is a shame..thanks for giving it a go..

  • +1 vote

Just bowed to the hoard and ordered one for the missus, she's keen to learn more about our camera so hopefully will help her out :)

    • +1 vote

I should rename this the Wives and girlfriends special, (Wags Camera Course) by the amount of people that have bought it for their missus..

  • +1 vote

just ordered for me my wife :)
Im sure she will learn something new out of it.

    Cheer's

    • +2 votes

Alright that's it, I'm changing it now to just Wags Camera Course, hehee

  • +1 vote

Just ordered. using Canon 60D with lens 18~200, hope it helps me to get better photos of my daughter.

    • +1 vote

For sure, I use my daughter in a few of the scenes, she's quite young and super hyperactive so burst mode is essential to get a decent shot of her..

  • +1 vote

    Hi,

I went to pay and the total comes to $20, I thought it was $15 as advertised above. Can you please clarify.

    Cheers.

    • +1 vote

Should be $15, it usually $20 so maybe it was another website, please try here and message me if you have any more problems, thanks
      www.digitalphotographycourse.com.au

      • +1 vote

The site has been updated down to $15 now. Thanks.

        • +2 votes

No worries, just to let you know I didn't change anything so it might have been another website or something..anyway its all fine now and that's all that matters..cheers..

  • +1 vote

    Hi
the website seems to be down. or is it just me? all other sites work fine…

    • +1 vote

other people have mentioned that to me as well but every time I check its fine, can you check on this link

      www.digitalphotographycourse.com.au

      • +1 vote

I tried the link and it says "Server not found"
is there any other way I can purchase the dvd?

  • +1 vote

Time to dust off my rarely used 10D (with a nifty fifty!). :)

  • +1 vote

I purchased last time. The only odd thing was that I thought that I was dealing with an Aussie, but the confirming eMail came from the US - if my aged memory serves? DVD was mailed in Oz though.

    • +1 vote

The servers for the website are located in the US.

      • +1 vote

        Thanks. Adds to my education!

    • +4 votes

It says on my passport Australian and I live in Australia but I really don't like vegemite, am I still an Aussie?

      • +1 vote

I haven't viewed the DVD yet Steven, but you may be able to enlighten me?

I understand that our view is around SLR 50-55mm. How much nearer does a 200mm tele (~x4) bring one eg 3/4 or 1/2 closer? And what of a wide SLR 25-28mm lens (~1/2)? THANKS.

I'll continue with the Vegemite - need the vitamin B for my old brain :-)

        • +1 vote

Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been trying to get a few examples together but I am very busy getting these orders out, it's all on the DVD though so feel free to grab me if you don't understand it..

      • +1 vote

Gees that's questionable if you are still an Aussie if you don't like Vegemite. I guess so long as you also don't like the Marmite etc substitutes. :)

        • +1 vote

2 things I avoid like the plague, Marmite and starfishes…

  • +1 vote

I'm thinking of buying this to learn about DSLR, though I don't have a camera yet

Is the Canon D550 better or the Nikon D5100?

    http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon_EOS_550D-vs-Nikon-D5100

I checked this and it says 5100, of course D5100 is more expensive but is it worth the price tag?

    • +1 vote

That deal at the moment on the 550d is pretty good, actually its amazing, coupled with a decent lens and you can have pro photos, Camera bodies come and go, don't worry too much about the body, its the lenses that make the difference, they are both great cameras but I'd rather have a cheaper body and save my money for more expensive lenses

      • +1 vote

Doesn't the body make a real difference when doing night photography?

        • +2 votes

The main difference is that the normal cameras we buy, I mean normal everyday people are called small frame cameras, Canon, 7d, 550d, 60d ect and have a small frame sensor, cameras which are more pro like a 5d or a 1d have a large sensor, the larger sensor picks up more light due to having a larger sensor to catch this light, that's the main difference in the bodies..
In the smaller sensor you will need to increase the ISO to match the larger sensor or increase the time the sensor is open, increasing the ISO can bring more digital noise into your shot..Digital noise is that grain we get on photos..just like the old film shots..

  • +1 vote

Just bought one for my self, atm all I have is my trusty N8 and my Sony HDR Sr12e Handycam.
You get all these deals and cameras have all these features so I am thinking having learnt a few things will help me make an educated decision on my next camera and I suppose make better use of the ones I have.

    • +1 vote

The video on it is great as well,

  • +1 vote

this is perfect timing, just bought a Nikon D3100 with 18-55VR lens for $533 Delivered.

I am new to DSLR. Hope this DVD is going to help me in taking portraits and animal shots. Cheers

    • +2 votes

Where did you get that deal? wow..

      • +2 votes

Bought from Kogan for $609 delivered, I also bought a Kogan Giftcard for $225 with value of $300. Therefore, in the end I paid $533 altogether. I thought its not a bad buy. So I went for it, hopefully this course will help me.

        • +1 vote

Awesome, great kit for almost under $500, I can't believe the prices that they are selling cameras at in 2012, its getting cheaper every day..

  • +1 vote

what lens would you recommend for the sony alpha 300 and where?
I've got the Minolta maxxum 70-210 f4 which is great outdoors, but all I have is the stock lens for indoors :(

Ordering the book and a lens based on your recommendation :)

Hi whatthecrappin, a friend of mine used to look after the entire sony Alpha brand in Australia and now he has taken over Fotoriesel in Sydney, his name is John Wallace, a top guy.

It's best to contact him directly as he constantly has new products before anybody else and new lenses, you can call him on (02)9299 6745 or email at johnw@fotoriesel.com, good luck.
