If you into buying steelbook editions.

I was until I realised they weren't worth the investment and they devalued like crazy.

    • +2

Agreed. No point spending the extra money. Save money towards another game.

    • I agree too. The only reason I get steelbook is to get special content/downloads that you can't get otherwise.

    • +15

Your comment makes it sound like buying steel books was somehow intertwined with your retirement plan.

    • I’ve only seen Steelbook editions of games getting more expensive than the normal editions, check FB marketplace and Ebay.

  • -7

I wish I could return mine. What a dud of a game. Woke x 1000. Give me the original any day of the week.

    • Haven't played, can you elaborate

      • +9

Would recommend not seeking out any info until you've played. Not because the content is so shocking or controversial, but because you risk putting the talking points before the work of art you're about to experience.

Perhaps its safest just to say that if you enjoyed the first, the second attempts to improve on that. And I think it was a success.

Fantastic game. This and tsushima are easily the highlights of the PS4 era.

        • -2

Ghost of Tsushima is a great game - a genuinely great game, but The Last of Us Part II is leagues ahead of it. There's literally no competition. Other then releasing a couple months apart, I have no idea why people talk about them in the same sentence.

TLOU2 is the new gold standard for video games.

          • +2

@australiughhh: Tldr: you're probs right. But I am biased towards the mechanics of gameplay.

I can totally see your point, and from a "whole package" perspective I'd have to agree tlou2 was better, and maybe profound so. The graphics, story, characters, attention to detail, mission variety, atmosphere, and some elements of the game play were superb.

But I'm an old school gamer who wants games to be something I actively play, and for that aspect of the relentlessly flowing through moves I'd give the "games" a more equal rating than otherwise. Tsushima, like Spiderman and sekiro, felt like such a path of mastery.

I didn't try tlou2 on the hardest setting, but a friend swears that hard on the first version demonstrated just how high the skill ceiling is.

          • @australiughhh: I wouldn't say 'leagues' ahead of it. It does storytelling better where Ghost of Tsushima definitely does gameplay better. If you compare TLOU to something like MGSV in terms of gameplay it starts to fall apart

            • -1

@cille745: Ghost of Tsushima has good gameplay, but The Last of Us Part II, hands down, has the smoothest, most-refined stealth gameplay of any title in the medium. I thought it was incredibly atmospheric and immersive. Great environmental storytelling. Great score. Great sound design.

      • -1

Just play it if you liked the first. I just finished it, going into it knowing nothing and it was amazing. The story-telling is the high bar at the moment.

If you are going to listen to someone on the internet, don't listen to them, listen to me.

    • +4

After playing it through, I thought some people were way too judgmental on this game (the noisy people most likely didn't play it). I did manage to avoid all the spoilers when they got leaked, so that probably made my experience better. But I do think people will look back at this game a lot differently in a few years time.

The story isn't better the the first game. But its way more creative. And the gameplay is top notch.
This aint no The Last Jedi/Rise of Skywalker level of F#@K up.
I do think it deserves its 93 Metacritic score and I did enjoy this more then Uncharted 4. I just cant enjoy playing uncharted on hard difficulties.

      How is it woke?

      • They whitewash the surgeon (Abby’s father) from the first game and let Mel go into battle heavily pregnant. :/ it’s a mess of a game

        • -1

After a quick googling it seems like the character was always white?

Also having a pregnant character in a fight is "woke" now….? Seems much more on the "edgy grimdark" spectrum to me.

Anything else or is that it?

          • @Autonomic: Re google and look for the character asset naughty dog made. Is that all? No. Who was Danny? Why did Druckmann put himself into the game?

    • The opinion of an Angry Gamer™ is worthless.

      • Opinions are like a holes, everyone's got one.

    • Yeah there's a woke aspect. But remember part of not being the ugly kind of woke is maintaining awareness of all points of view, and not getting triggered.

The butch girls arms were a bit much, but I found them strangely attractive, so there's that.

      • -1

Laudern disagrees, or someone has downdoots for me, presumably for admitting there is an ugly kind of woke.

This absurdity will be its own demise.

In a world of (floods and) snowflakes I get to be a delicate flower too you know.

    • Just made a new T-Shirt with the slogan:
      Not woke,
      Awake!

Haven't played the game, so no idea, but I read it pushes the Lesbos mythology… like 90% of Netflix movies.
The original was in my top 10 best ever games, joining the ranks of Half Life, Alien Isolation, Doom, Myst (Played 1994), Mass Effect…

Evelyn de Rothschild: They're breading uncontrollably and destroying the planet.
Mr DS: We'll lock'em down and turn'em gay.

Excellent mini series called: Utopia (2013)

    Tinbook life

  • A really good game. Play it through before judging it.

  • The first one was one of the best games I have played. I bought cheap (used) PS4 just to play this game, game worth it for me.
    Dodge, dodge…

  • What's the benefit of Steelbook?

  • For PS5 owners, wait for the next gen patch before buying, that's what most folk I know are doing.

    • so to those who have already purchased the game, do you recommend to wait till the patch(ps5) to play it??

      • +2

The game is very much worth experiencing right now (especially for $29 for the regular non-steelbook version). A PS5 version will be even better, but it won't change the core experience.

      • Honestly, it’s not a must. It was already very optimised on the PS4 Pro where I played it. It’s very playable as-is. If anything, what I think would add to the overall experience is if NaughtyDog added haptic feedback. 60fps and a texture quality bump also would be nice.

  • +5

This has a very average user score 5.7/10 in Metacritic. nothing like the 9.2/10 user score for the first one

    • +4

Average meta score and a shit tin of Game of the Year awards

    • It was review bombed. That's what strong women and lesbians will do to people.

"Unless it's for porn, you're makin' the wrong call."

      • +1

If you are telling me metacritic is for porn I've been doing it wrong.

    • Animal Crossing New Horizons has a metacritic score of 5.5, is that making it average or a bad game?

Also it was review bombed, Metacritic had to change their user review system because of that.

    • Fragile gamers got panties in a twist. Feel free not to play it if you want to miss out on one of the best games, not just of the generation, but ever made. That'll show 'em.

    • This is the day you realised meta critic is about emotions, not about actually playing a game or not. Most probably never played the game, just watched the leaked video

    • +1

A lot of gamers opposed it for political reasons regardless of the quality of the game

      • Most people did not complain due to political reasons (not sure why so many people think that way). The main complain is characters we knew behaved / acted in out of character ways (especially at critical moments, it seems that the story drives the characters this time around). Plot armour is another complaint.

LGBTQ parts were written quite well (organic) for most people though the irony is the Q group were upset about it (how those people are treated in the game - despite it depicts the current situation - that's not the message the Q group is happy about). Overall, the story feels like it is for a TV series, rather than a sequel of a critically acclaimed game. Graphics and animations are top notch.

  • +1

Considering that other major late ps4 releases (Ghost of Tsushima, etc) got some upgrade patches quickly and this didn't, it's likely this will get a proper next gen remaster, as in a more signifcant upgrade. Think Last of Us 1 remaster on ps4.

    • Yea I played on ps5 and At no point did I think it needed a ps5 version right now.

      • +1

I played it on PS5 recently. A 60fps patch would be nice.

Also, a patch to take advantage of the SSD better (instead of a big game load designed mainly for HDD) would also help.

  • +3

    Golf Iron DLC included?

  • I think most people were upset about the early twist in the game and then they had to spend another 10 hrs getting the other side of the coin ……. that twist was fine but it probably would have been better if there was a more meaningful way to achieve the same result.

The LGBTQ parts were really just a couple of throw away lines and I nearly missed them ( probably should play with headphones )

I didnt mid that Abby looked like an 80's action star cause that gym was massive and it was probably part of her anger management routine.

Over all good game but had more endings than The Return Of The King and I wasnt a fan of any of them.

  • Anyone need a $50 paperweight?
