  • I’m guessing “PDF to text converter” does not mean OCR. Waiting, waiting, waiting for one of these which actually does have OCR…

A "corect" PDF file has the text embedded as characters, not images, thus extracting the text is trivial.
What you are referring to is an image stored inside a PDF, the image can be extracted and OCRed, thus is no different than OCRing a scanned document.

try this one for OCR, hasn't disappointed yet https://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-viewer

Abbyy is the best one to my knowledge

  • Thanks OP. Have had limited success with others. Hope this works better :)

So, you normally pay $30 to have half of the main screen full of ads?

  • +2

I normally use this one [https://www.sejda.com/] and it does it all. I was thrilled when I found this some time ago.

  • +13

There is ads on top of the page 🙄

  • +28

It has ads and the PDF file also has watermark. Not worth even trying it out.

  • +11

It has ads and an ugly ass red watermark on the bottom of each page 'Made with PDF Editor'
    Whats the point?!

  • I just want a good viewer with tabs. DC keeps releoading some files or something when you have a bunch open, makes it slow.

    • +2

Sumatra pdf might work for you.

  • +7

Ads and watermark on every page "Made with Pdf???". More this is a separate application, nothing to do with Adobe Reader.

  • +10

Watermark and ads on so-called $30 application

    • +4

      Thanks, save me from download.

  • Super annoying to use. Not marking as -ve as this maybe useful for some. Watermark and not a great output after conversion.

So many of these from Microsoft lately, most aren't the best and screw ads..

    All of these work ok:

    • Oh just gave myself a D for skipping this post.

    • Lol I was just about to copy paste all that, but thanks

installed and tested after seeing the negative comments above. uninstalled afterwards and back to using this

Foxit Reader is my goto. Been pretty good so far and is free

    • +1

Foxit Reader is just a reader isn't it? Any kind of editing requires Foxit PDF Editor, which isn't free.

    KEY FEATURES

    ✔️ Annoying ads
    ✔️ Annoying watermark

    • +3

      Well said Steve!

      me? ===> Uninstalling ===> immediately.👍

Retracting my positive vote for the watermark and ads. Misleading to have an original price of $29.95.

  • +1

How does this have so many positive votes for a sh!t product?

  • Thanks neg voters, saved me the inconvenience.

  • +1

Agree with the negs, can't believe something costing $30 would have watermarks and ads…..GTFO!
    Just uninstalled!

    • Use pdf24 instead for merging, converting, splitting and filling up in pdf. Its free

  • I’m looking for PDF editor but Adobe’s editor is on subscription method and too expensive. Any other alternative I can try guys ? I need to edit the texts with few pictures. I can’t find the word document.

    • +1

      You could try nitro pdf..

    • +1

      thepiratebay.org is your friend
… search for previous version of Adobe Pro v8 which is not subscription

Or you can try Open Source PDF Editors
      https://opensource.com/alternatives/adobe-acrobat

      • Thank you Andy. I tried downloading previous versions and Adobe blocks them and asks me to jump into their expensive monthly DC subscription.
How do I access pirate bay as it’s blocked on TPG internet?

        • Adobe is blocking you because you first need to fully uninstall the subscription version then run the Adobe Cleaner (its on the Adobe website) that fully removes all tracers of their crap subscription product.

Google is your other friend. Search TPB proxy to get past TPG blocks

          • @[Deactivated]: I’ve got another Adobe DC installed it works perfect but after few hours Adobe comes in and checks for an update messed up everything.
How can I stop Adobe auto checks ? I’ve tried manually blocking everything it fails

            • @justanick: You need to block all outgoings from all Adobe apps / files via firewall

              • @[Deactivated]: Could you please give me some instructions on this please for windows 10? Also should I delete all Acrobat products like reader, photoshop ? I’ve blocked Adobe update in the past even registry editor but this update just won’t stop.

Damn I just purchased this app to try out but should have checked the comments here first

I agree the app is rubbish and the worse thing about purchasing a crap app from the Microsoft Store is not having the ability to permanently remove purchased apps from your App Library

There is a hide feature to remove apps from the Ready To Install list but IMO it is a poor substitute for a permanent deletion option (such as the one provided by the Google Play Store)

My Microsoft App Library is now permanently tainted

  • I just use Word to edit. Has worked since 2016 version, I think..

    • You use Word to edit pdf files? And then save them as pdf?

      • +1

Yes, I usually just right-click on a pdf file and do Open with.. and then select Microsoft Word.
I then make my changes etc and then do Print to Microsoft PDF.
But you could do Save as.. PDF I guess.

  • Using word to edit PDF how ? The font alignment changes ?
PDF editor works very well but it’s so expensive. I tried installing Adobe pro 8. It’s too old it’s not useable now

  • I have been using Xodo for years and have never found anything that can load as fast as it does.
