Amazon AU looks to have a good deal on the Acer Swift 3 14". The main benefits I see with this laptop compared to recent deals posted which are slightly cheaper.

  1. Better multi-core performance due to having a AMD Ryzen hexa core (6 core) processor
  2. Better build quality due to magnesium/aluminum chassis vs the plastic in others
  3. Battery life is up to 12hrs, and 3rd party reviews (laptopmag.com) seem to indicate that it gets close to this number (11hrs) based on usage of course.
  4. Wifi 6 support vs Wifi 5
  5. USB-C support which cheaper laptops seem to lack
  6. Only weighs 1.2kg vs the heaver plastic chassis.

Also some manufactures seem to have a 1 month wait time for delivery, which this doesn't seem to have.

          You thought a high powered premium gaming ultrabook with a metal chassis and great screen would be found for entry level plastic gaming notebook price?

          $1.8k is actually a decent price in the current climate given the specs and build quality.

              @Homr: That's your subjective opinion. It has one of the highest end consumer Ryzen U series CPU with 8 cores and 16 threads and the highest powered GPU that can fit into a notebook that small yet still have great thermals due to high end cooling. Considering it runs every single AAA title (apart from Flight Simulator) at native res and above 60fps it's objectively a high powered laptop for the time being regardless if you don't think of it as being high powered because it hasn't got a 3090 in it.

              It's the highest power CPU and GPU that's ever been in a notebook that's less than 1.5kg.

    Specs look great for a basic laptop, quite a few people complaining about fan noise, which could indicate poor thermal design or some other inherent issue. No experience with Acer laptops, just reading the reviews.

      I looked up this model and couldn't find anything major. There seemed to be issues with the older Intel based model and fan noise.

        Yeah I was about to reply the same thing, the intel model had a lot of thermal issues, but the AMD version seems to have solved that. Probably because the Ryzen chip is using less power.

    I have an older Acer Swift 3 (2017, i5-7200u 8GB ram), and it's been fantastic.

    I think I bought it for about $1000, and a few months ago I bought a replacement battery and replacement charging cable for about $150 total (The cable broke due to me stretching it too much, and the battery was basically dead, I couldn't take it off charge for longer than 20 minutes.) So other than the usual wear and tear of a laptop, I've had no issues.

    At this price, it's definitely worth it, the metal casing makes such a difference over plastic and the IPS panel is great.

        Acer Spare Parts (Infinity Computer).

        They're the official parts store for Acer so I trusted them and it's been good.

        I replaced it myself, you might need a special $2 screwdriver from amazon.

    My swift 3’s 2 keys broke within. 3-4 months of purchase. And Acer customer care was adamant to tell me that they don’t guarantee to replace the damaged keys, even when I have posted the laptop to their sydney support centre. I would say without the inhome support service spending on more than 1k laptops is a great risk. I have comparatively found dell and Lenovo inhome support service very good!

      You do know that they pretty much come from all the same ODMs in China. All the manufacturers have quality issues. Just look up the defect numbers for Dell, Lenovo and even Apple. They will be close to each other including Acer.

        ‌That's not entirely true. Most manufacturers are located in China and that applies to many white goods, but that doesn't mean all of them are the same. iPhone and ZTE are made in China but they are not built with the same quality. China in a way is like a big kitchen, vendors decide what ingredients should go on the plate. Also, after sales service includes technical supports, warranty and software update which are part of the package.

          You are comparing laptops with phones and that is completely different. Compal, Quanta, Winstron and Foxconn build the majority of the world's laptops. Open up the Acer, Dell, Lenovo, HP, Asus and even Apple and you will notice that a lot of the components are exactly the same beneath. They all design to certain price points. This Acer at the entry level is much better then the cheap products from Dell and Lenovo.

            You are right in most part but just missed the last point which is the most important one.

            Why are you buying the entry level Acer at this price point when you can buy a Dell or a Lenovo's Gaming or better than entry-level Laptop cheaper? Any one of the following laptop is much better value than this ACER in my opinion.

              1. Quad core cpu only
              2. 220 nit screen
              3. Plastic chassis
              4. Non backlit keyboard
              5. Wifi 5 support only
              6. People commented that the laptop only achieves up to 4hrs usage with its 42wh battery vs up to 12hrs of this laptop
              7. Lacks USB-C support

              That's a lot of missing features for $88 less.

              Delivery time is also 1 month vs immediate access if you went to The Good Guys, based on people's feedback in the other thread.

              *The G15 was good value, but is sold out. It is a lot heavier at 2.4kg and thicker. IT was part of an eBay promotion and not immediately available. Battery life from owning a similar G5 laptop with 56wh battery, would be up to 6 or 7hrs, so less then the Acer. The chassis is also plastic.

              *The IdeaPad deal has expired. The AMD Ryzen 5700u CPU is good and is equivalent to a 4800u but the chassis is plastic and the battery is only 38wh.

              *The e14 was a good deal but it also is out of stock due to being a run out model from last year. Otherwise it was 1k+.

                @shellshocked: Thanks for your comments. As you could see, there are many bargains around, just "Hold on to your hard-earned cash, don't buy when you don't need one" is the headline, and please stay away from ACER :)
