Not a great movie. Thanks anyway

    Great movie. Thanks anyway.

  • -2

    I enjoyed it. Thanks, OP.

  • +1

If I hadn't already seen it, I think $6 is worth it to watch the first time, at home, for lockdown :)

  • +2

    Endgame is $6.23 too

    • +1

      Black Panther, too. Possibly others

    • +1

      Same for Thor Ragnarok

  • +11

Good price, bad movie. Will be ok for a cheap gift, thanks OP.

Actually better than a few in the franchise. The trouble is she is a bit too powerful. When she appeared in Endgame she crashed through ships. It is hard to believe she had something better to do than help them stop Thanos in Infinity Wars. She might not stop him, on her own, but she certainly could’ve helped.

    • +11

I feel the lack of any character development was also an issue.

    • +1

She was felt forced upon the Avengers franchise, who had spent nearly two decades building to a beautiful setup to seamlessly come together in Infinity War What did she achieve in Infinity War? Nothing, she wasn't in it. So why put her in endgame?

The biggest problem, her existence was a distraction that didn't advance the Endgame plot at all. Look at her role in Endgame, the most overpowered super-being in the MCU achieved nothing. 5 mins at the start of the movie that was undone by time travel, 5 mins at the end getting one punched by Thanos. Taking her out of Endgame would would have made it a better movie. Meanwhile releasing the Captain Marvel movies after Endgame would have been much better for Captain Marvel, it would have allowed closure for one group of heroes and avoided the Captain Marvel backlash.

The dedicated Captain Marvel movie wasn't a bad movie. Average by MCU standards, but the over-hypers fighting with the haters…. "omg female hero BEST MoVIE 10/10" Vs "best movie, no you have it a 10? I'll give it 1/10 to counter balance hype".

      • Probably not a bad summary. The problem is the “haters” won’t accept any female superhero; I do wonder just how insecure some of them are. I just love the “self rescuing princess” t-shirts I think it says it all.

If anyone is looking at Marvel movies, and worrying about plot development, I think they’ve missed the point. My favourites are the Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor Ragnarok. I like the funny ones. It is why I prefer Marvel to DC. A couple of the middle ones with Captain America were, frankly, tedious because they went too dark. None of it was, particularly, believable.

Actually, I think my favourite character is Loki. Perfectly cast and you are, always, looking for the motives.

I don’t think any of their outfits are, overtly, sexualised. However, it is interesting how many of the movies contain the “man, he’s been working out in the gym” moments. There is a scene in Ragnorok where Thor is in low cut pants and the Camera pans around him and a scene in Guardians of the Galaxy where they spray the orange stuff on “Star Lord” so his muscle definition is more obvious. I thought both were hilarious.

I grew up in the ‘60s and my mother once told me “I can’t depend on a man for a living”. I was headed to Uni from kindergarten, I worked in IT, I made my own living. The joke is I got the “prince” as well. We save each other.

The character also comes off as abhorrently arrogant, especially in Endgame: Cap "Where are you going?" Marvel: "To Kill Thanos".

But she doesn't even know where he is yet? … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnpI7iJLcJk&ab_channel=Waldo…

The characterisation and dialogue leave nothing for the audience to enjoy, when she's on screen, it's about her.

It's not hard to write strong female leads that audiences love (See Ellen Ripley, Sarah Connor, Laurie Strode, Clarice Starling, The Bride).

Why do the MCU writers seem to struggle with this?

  • +11

I wouldn't even pay 1c for this movie. Brie Larson has to be the most annoying actress in the Marvel franchise. Majority of the people who watched her in this movie just can't stand her.

    • +1

It took in over 1 billion USD at the box office. So how big was your survey's sample size?

      • +6

It grossed that much because it was wedged between two Avengers movies and replaced the timeslot originally intended for Black Widow because they needed to set Captain Marvel up to be one of the next lead's in the MCU.

        • +2

The Black Widow movie would have been perfect there. A memorial. Captain Marvel coming back after Endgame would have been a better for the MCU. They could have had her coming bback to find out what happened after she was one of the people snapped out of existence in Infinity War.

    • +3

you arent not alone, I felt the same "meh" about her.

    • +11

I would actually argue that it's a loud minority that dislike her, at least amongst my peers she's either liked or people have no strong opinion one way or the other.

      • +5

There is a loud minority that dislikes everything.

      • -1

Rotten Tomatoes audience score would beg to differ.

        • +3

Yeah same way The Last of Us 2 metacritic scores were 100% accurate.

        • +1

I mean sure, but it would be fair to say a large portion of that would be influenced by the actual movie itself. You can't blame an actor for poor writing, and in the case of an Academy Award winner, I'd be more inclined to say it's more of a reflection on the quality of the movie as a whole than her specifically.

    • Wow. You need help.

You hate someone so much you take the time to comment on a thread for a movie that released over 2 years ago.

      You're still triggered.

      • -2

Thin skinned bunch this lot, you'll find them crying online under every TLOU2 post, anything to do with Brie Larson etc. Manbabies gonna manbaby I suppose.

      • If you're talking to me yes I can't stand her lol. Lot of people can't stand her. We all have our own opinions and choices in life. Anyone is free to express an opinion and it doesn't necessarily mean that we are "triggered" but rather just opinionated. You can agree or disagree and I couldn't care less but you should definitely seek some help yourself especially since you care so much to reply :)

    • +4

It's a middling movie, but I gotta say, when I see people go straight for the Brie attack, my misogynism alarms go off. Too many openly toxic people do that for the benefit of the doubt at this point.

      • +2

Misogyny and toxic in one paragraph. Yeah your view is already biased to begin with.

    • +1

They are still asking at least twice as much as I'd be willing to pay. It's worth more than 1c though, you never know when you will need a replacement bluray case if you break one from a good movie, and replacement cases ain't cheap.

    • +1

Oh please. You're talking about a franchise with Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow in it. Brie is fine. Maybe don't base your opinions from listening to outrage trolls

      • -1

        Brie fanboy I see? XD

  • Love MCU, didn't mind this film. Just can't see the point in buying movies these days at all, especially stuff like this that will most likely always be available to stream.

  • Was looking for cheap dvds on sale, found this for $2.49:
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Blue-Murder-Killer-Michael-Jenkins…

    • DVD? You still watch DVD?

      • My username tells it all…

        • Do you still watch VCD?

  • +3

    man of steel is $5…

  • +11

Not one of the MCU's finest. Also Brie Larson is not a good actor.

  • +7

    Captain Karen.

  • +3

Brie Larson seems to get triggered by every possible in-vogue thing. True Hollywood royalty.

  • Thanks OP. Transporter…the prequel to FF7 and Hobbs & Shaw? 😅

  • +2

Great movie. Definately one of the better MCU movies. People just hate because of Brie and not accepting that a female can be the strongest in the MCU.. I thought the sound track was good especially the last fight

  • Disney (Fox) disc clean out - dumping them all, so buy now…. as they move that stuff out and people onto streaming

  • Just found that I have it XD

Captain America: Civil War (Blu-ray) $6.75
