Gyw is great but it sure ain’t $50.

      • Except it can be - one of my favourite pair of boots is a GYW workboot from Rivers that I got for less than $50 - the leather and elastic are terrible but the sole feels almost indestructible.

10 of these or a pair of RMs. Easy choice.

  • Only size 12 AU left.

    Crap brand.

Most of the brands posted on Ozbargain are. People like cheap, disposable crap here (especially clothes), sadly.

      • +2

Yep, something that's expensive that is discounted is usually met with scorn and 'thanks bought 10'

    • Just curious, what are some of the better brands out there?

      • +1

RM Williams will last a lot, lot longer than these, but people on this forum cry over the price because they're not interested in the longer term

Or because they cant afford to drop $450 on a pair of boots because they're too poor to even afford a snickers. The cycle exists: boots break because theyre cheap so you use your savings to buy cheap boots and cant save up for the better ones.

        • I have POS kmart and target boots that look like these, I think I paid $10 for them. They have lasted almost 1 year each with pretty frequent use. They haven't even failed yet; the rubber on the heel is peeling off- I think I could fix it with some strong glue. I have no doubt RM's are better than these shoes, but are they 50x better? I understand supporting homegrown is worthwhile, but holy crap > $500 for some leather and glue.

@naturaldecay: RM is owned by Twiggy Forest now, I’d rather buy American.

            • @nuts: What's wrong with twiggy?

            • +3

@nuts: Another MULTI-billionaire jizzstain that reps being a good guy, doesn't pay enough tax while destroying the Australian environment.

          • @naturaldecay: They will definitely feel more comfortable haha

          • @naturaldecay: There's quite a bit more that goes into a quality of pair of boots than leather and glue, and most of RMW's derby boots are hand-made by Australians in Adelaide.

        • RM Williams are a luxury boot which many people cannot afford. You can't just blanket assume that everyone has the capacity to buy them, even if it is a sound decision. For many people, this $50 shoe would be considered "fancy". Have a little perspective.

@shiny1: Luxury? Settle down. Half the young men in city offices wear RMs.
Luxury would be shoes that cost over $1000

            • +3

@mlburnian: They are absolutely luxury shoes. Just because other shoes cost more doesn't make this any less expensive. I also use the term "luxury" because it is incredibly expensive for a shoe. Yes, the RMs are great in quality and that's why everyone loves them, but to see them as a boot that everyone should seriously consider because it'll last forever is just silly.

Thomas George Collection, a small Australian brand, is excellent and probably the best value option in Australia for quality GYW shoes and boots.

    • The pairs I have from Julius Marlow not only have lasted a long time but also age very well and don't crease. The value performance on these is unbeatable. Don't listen to this guy.

  • Not even 12 left, I'm a 12 and won't let me
