    Cheers.

go for it mate..instead of getting an android tablet, you will definitely enjoy it. I have a xoom, today i bought an ipad2.

  • I just picked one up from JB Hi-Fi, they price matched it with DSE's $399 no worries. :)

  • What should i get 3g or wifi (16gb)?? (ipad noob here)

    • Depends on your usage. If you're mainly using it at home, then save your money and get the WiFi model. If you're primarily going to use it when you're out and about (and you need Internet) then get the 3G model. I use my Transformer outside a lot, but I just tether.

Long story, short. Depends on what you need it for.

  • Myer will only match apple's price $429 but they said iPad 3 is arriving next week so I am going to wait. I want an ipad2 but dh wants an ipad3…currently we have an ipad1 which we've had since it first came out and we think it's time for an upgrade!!

ipad 3 anyone? its ahell lot better than ipad 2 :)

  • Is it safe to assume that all this stock will come with iOS 5.01?

    • Highhhhhhllyyyy likely it would. Unless maybe you buy from Apple Store.

    • Even if it doesn't, updating it to the latest version is simple enough and there are no barriers from getting it. Whereas (unless I'm buying a Nexus device) this is the most valid question to ask every time a new version of Android is out.

For example, "I'm getting the Galaxy SII for $0 on the $29 cap tomorrow. Is it safe to assume that it'll come with Gingerbread and probably stay that way until Samsung AND Vodafone update it despite ICS being launched 3 months ago?"

Yes. Very safe to assume that and a very valid question.

      • He obviously wanted 5.0.1 for jailbreak.

      • A more valid question is: Why aren't you using a custom rom?

        • Buzz off troll.

  • i bought one from jb hifi, isnt it meant to come with a smart pad/cover? :(

What? No. Free of charge is something you don't associate with Apple products. Not being anti-Apple but that's not their business model. They make quality stuff and charge for it.

  • as an ANTI-APPLE person, at this price, now I am seriously considering getting one!! Coz this price seems like an awesome deal….SHOULD I?! Gonna end up as another gadget for my baby boy watching his Thomas the Tank

  • out of stock everywhere in Melbourne. I don't think DSE have many stock in first place but causing problems for JB, HN for price match.wondering anyone here actually bought one from DSE

    • I went at 10am yesterday morning and my dse is tiny and never even stocked iPads, so that's fine. But I asked where stock was and was told fountain gate had over 20 16gbs wifi in stock. I only asked for that model thou.

    • they had heaps of stock on the 8th walked in a picked one up no problems

  • Tempted to get one… but really curious as to how much difference the new screen will really have in day to day web browsing.

    • I have the Galaxy Note which is 800 x 1280 pixels, 5.3 inches (~285 ppi pixel density).

The new iPad is 9.7 inches, 2048x1536 pixel resolution at 264 ppi.

My Galaxy Note allows you to view the web page non zoomed in, you can even see tiny text that would of been impossible to see otherwise. The new iPad will do a much better job, as the screen estate is much bigger.

So apparently the highest ppi needed is 460 for 20/20 vision but if you have 20/10 vision the highest ppi needed is 600. Will iPad 2015 have a 4096x3072 display? Maybe.

I would strongly urge people to get the high resolution iPad 3

Why pay $399 when you can get the new ipad 3 for $539?

    • -4

      exactly…

-it has a better resale value

-will get more better updates, and u can get updates longer than the ipad 2..

-ram + gpu will be able to run more newer games

      -better resolution

      -better camera

If you are going to get an iPad(3) 16GB most people will not noticed the difference. The only major difference would have been 4G, but of course is not compatible with Telstra's network anyways, so you get 3G coverage.

      • +2

Unless your Mr Magoo you will notice the screen difference.

        • I can't take comments like the above seriously. Having a retina display is like comparing an old 50Hz 576p LCD to a new 200Hz 1080 HD TV IMO. It's seriously chalk and cheese.

Also 3G is fast enough for 99% of people that use an Ipad. You can download angry birds HD in 15 seconds instead of 5 with 4G…

        here's youtube of comparison

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Or5CQrTXA1c&feature=related

ipad 2 you can see the dots on the icon

and what does 16gb have anything to do with resolution

more pixels than 1080p is cool

also being able to do 1080p recording is pretty good

        • here here! <slams down empty glass on bar>

Ignore the BS about getting 4G (tethering to a 4G device - meh)

        But, the following is certainly good news for those on Telstra 3G with new 'ipad';

'Within is an upgraded 3G chipset that supports HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA (DC – dual channel) standards that Telstra enabled during the 21Mbps and 42.2Mbps “maximum up to” speed boosts of Next G’s evolution, making it the fastest iPad ever when connected to a 3G network such as Telstra’s that supports the DC-HSDPA standard.'

  • I'm thinking of getting the iPad 3 from the US. Will there be any difference to buying it in Australia? Would the charger still work (different voltage) and is the warranty worldwide?

      • Worldwide warranty
      • Charge will work. You will just need to swap the head or bend the pins fit fit out plug.
    • 1) It will come with a US charger, just buy a adaptor for like $2 on eBay, voltage is fine.
      2) Warranty is universal
      3) It's pointless. Add sales tax on and the price is near the same.

      • Thanks. So US$499 excludes sales tax? How much is the additional cost (ie. sales tax and other charges)?

Based on an exchange rate of 1.05, that translates to A$475 compared to the starting price of A$539. I have a friend returning from the US and can buy for me.

        • It's different from state to state.

        • Some states don't have sales tax for online purchases and this is where a lot of US online retail comes from not just people ebaying but also businesses like Amazon.

However postage usually makes up a lot of the difference. Add to that risk and the waiting time and it's not generally worth it any more.

        • It doesn't matter what state the business is located in, it's the state the item is getting shipped to that decides if tax needs to be collected.

  • When is Samsung going to to get their pricing adjusted?

    • When they sell more than 10 units.

When apple stops throwing lawsuits at them.
