Was in at BigW today and got these prices. They were pretty open about prices which was good. They had this leaflet out on the counter, so to prove that this does not belong in the forums!

Need to buy the SD card reader for iPad first. Then you can use a SDHC card - max size 32GB. It is limited to just photos (I think).

  • -2

    it only takes micro SD

  • +1

will jb/dse price match if the ad is not on bigw website, can we just show them the link to this deal?

    • +1

Big W have announced prices and go on sale midnight tonight.

    http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2012/03/big-w-confirms-ipad-availa…

  • So is it confirmed that BigW Aus wide will not be getting the 64gb Wifi for release? Seems absolutely crazy if true.. It seems like the most wanted model. I don't know if I should even bother wasting time lining up at BigW tomorrow morning or just head straight to JB. I'd like to save the $11 (yes I am a cheapskate who likes to spend money) but I also would rather only stand in 1 line.

  • Does anyone know that this price is gonna stay like this for a while, or its just a launch-day special?

    • everyday price. The price will not drop until the Ipad 4.

      • Are you talking about the big-w price or the general price?

  • Anyone lining up for this in Melbourne Big W?

  • ^

  • looks like people are lining up at BigW QV store in Melbourne

    • +2

He's not kidding.. I'm the guy standing in front of him.

  • +1

QV queue coming up to 100 deep. People joining quickly.

    • +1

Is there any point joining the queue now? Okay… sending my android robot to QV to queue up for me.

Good luck people… and let's hope people don't buy multiple iPads so more people get to go home happy.

    • +1

Lol… and if those posts above are to be believed, there are only 65 ipads per store?

  • +1

Calv ….I am on the left coast 3 hours behind ya

Let us know if you get one,

    good luck

  • +1

can someone in line at bigW also confirm if they have the new Apple TV's? Would go well ont eh same receipt for a GST refund!

  • QV store only have 38 units in total, and when they sell it, they make it looks like you are withdrawing millions in cash :))))

  • these ipads are selling like fries.

guess i got to line up at my bigW 6am tomorrow

  • I read a comment somewhere on this thread saying that bigW arent selling these at 12am, so figured meh dw….then at 1207 i decided to call bigW campbelltown to be sure, the guy said nah we are selling them, but only till 1230…theres a few of each left, nobody here, i was like sweet, will you be there at 1230 or just after his like a few mins after is okay, as i was in fairfield it begin to drive down as fast as i could, when i was about 4 mins away at 1227 i figured ill call him and make his life easier and tell him which one i want, he replies saying we are closes nobody is left here and then hangs up.

fuck me! biggest waste of time…..if your not gonna stay open for the extra 5 mins, dont make it sound like you are, save me the drive

if only i didnt read the stupid comments and went at well basically 10 mins earlier.

  • I guess you cant make a complaint on the bigW facebook page! it gets taken down almost immediately!!

  • For what its worth, JBHifi Chadstone opened at 7:00 am this morning, and there were 6 in queue as of 6:55 am.
in and out in 10 minutes.
    $537 for 16gb wifi.
Not a great deal, but not having to queue, squeeze and shove makes it a very pleasant experience overall.

  • Lining up at bigw no one here lol

  • Big W QV had about 20 left from their last night sale.
I got a 64gb 3G Black, but they had no 16gb Wifi left as I was 2nd in line.
About 40 people in the queue when I paid and left, doubt they would have any left by now.
Happy Happy Joy Joy. Amazing display on this thing!

    • Ha ha, I was first in and got a 16 Wifi White

      • LOL I remember you, you sped up a bit, I sped up a bit, was watching behind us in case anyone started to run, funny stuff…
I was going to wait at the other door on Swanston st, lucky I didn't as they opened it up a few minutes after the main one!

I wanted the 64, but also would have been prepared to wait until next week or whenever, the dude behind us 3rd in line wanted the one you got!!

I was at Macquarie Big W around 7:30am. I was No5 in the line. Bought 2 16 G WiFi Black. Really want one white one black but white has been sold out.

    • I was no 7 :D. It's not selling like hot cakes to be honest.

      • Maybe people just aren't too fussed with the new Ipad.
The perceived stock shortages are helping sales though, i'm pretty sure the people who queued this morning forsaw sellouts.

      • i was no2 :) i only grabbed one 16G white wifi and one 32
the guy at no1 only grabbed one 16G white too
so not sure no3 or no4 must have grabbed 2 16G white

lucky the manager came out and gave us numbers to avoid people running towards the counter

  • Got my iPad 3 from Big W this morning, white wifi 16gb. Was the first to get it as I was the only one there. Others came in after I has got mine tho

  • went to liverpool at 8:30. line was pretty short, 8 ppl?
waited 15 minutes then the guy in front of me orders 20. LOL
they limited it to 5 per person after that lol

  • Got mine 16GB White - Big W Broadmeadows VIC, there was about 15ppl in the line - 1 guy was there since 7am. To all the people who missed out - I wouldve thought if you were in line at QV you were making a mistake. If you really wanted an iPad today you wouldve said to yourself "Who would buy an iPad at Broady?

  • +1

Got mine for $398 at JbHiFi! :) priced matched big w no probs! :D

    • $398???????????

    • wow…mt ommany do price match?!
Do you think if I print this receipt and take it in and ask for another 16gb black wifi..they would sell at same price? JB at Mt.Gravatt wouldn't price match.

      • I Can confirm that JB isn't doing it for this price any longer.. that is until you are able to prove that big W have stock again :) other then that you're going to find paying full price is your only option!

On that note I'm glad I got mine on day 1!

  • Oh man, should have gotten them to pricematch mine.
Anyone knows if its still possible to price match after purchase ?
(return product and repurchase again at the pricematched price maybe?)

    • If you ask me if you didn't in the first place good luck :P Try your luck tho.. who knows!

  • happily turned up at 830am at karingal, vic- nearest to mornington peninsula. 4 people in front of me only 2 for iPads, one didn't buy, so had got my white wifi 16g $498 new iPad by 835am - took a couple minutes from carpark to big w. good store if ur in that area!

  • Only 10-15 people lined up at my BigW.

I was the first there at 8am.

Picked up a shiny 16Gb white wifi.

Feel sorry for the guy who took the day off work to get the 32gb which wasn't available.

  • -5

i see this as the beginning of the end for apple as too many people are starting to wake up to the fact that all thier products inevitably are lemons

  • Got my this morning. Turned up 20 min after big w opened and there was no line. Walked in and got one straight away. Fairfield bigw

  • About 10 people lined up at Big W Erina. They had about 60 in total. Guy took at least 10 minutes to find a 64gb wifi for the lady in front of me. Horribly unorganised for a product launch.

  • just picked up 16gb wifi from david jones melbourne city …price match to $498 …DJ's is the closest one to my work and knew it wouldn't be busy there :) …call first, as they could change their mind about doing price match

  • anyone able to get HN to price beat? if so by how much?

  • Just got 32gb wifi black @ Big W Hoppers Crossing. They still have stock, just call ahead. If you missed out at your local store just check with some in the suburbs, seems to be many still available. Now we all need a bargain for a smart cover!

  • Can someone comment on the quality of it? A lot has been made of the HD screen, but what do current apps look like on it? Don't want to upgrade if I have to purchase all my apps again.

    • if you had purchased your apps, you simply just download it again on the new iPad.. you dont have to pay again…

      • what I meant was buy the new "HD" version of the apps that developers will start releasing.

Do the old app versions look ok on the HD screen.

        • As far as I remember devs upgraded old 3GS apps to retina screen for free.

I would be surprised if Apple allowed them to make us pay again for essentially the same iPad app.

        • Just as a note some games like RAGE were released as HD and SD versions with different pricing. They were later quoted as saying the SD version sold poorly and the vast majority went for the HD version.
As far as I know most iPhone games just upgraded the existing version to HD for free - so hopefully this happens to the iPad Apps, mind you iPads apps aren't afraid of pricing themselves high then their iPhone equivalent.

  • Got the 16gb Wifi at big w gateways in WA. =D

  • -1

They seemed to have plenty left in my local shop (in Shepparton, VIC) just before. Was quite tempted to get one, just to be able to sell it with a profit in eBay…

    • -1

I got it for 449 at target with my staff card. Imagine the profit.Lol

      • +1

Dont worry. Ebay will share the profit with ya. 8% final value fee + 5% paypal fee. Hopefully, it worth effort.

  • +1

Got mine from big-w at about 8:45am (they opened at 8am) and there was no one in line. I asked the guy how many they had sold and I was only the 4th sale so far. I guess it's one of the advantages of living in a smaller city.

  • Wow, buy from Target or here?

  • does the iPad 3 come with Siri? Also does the iPad 2 cases fit the 3?

    • Siri is not included with the new iPad but it does allow voice dictation.

      • +1

so Siri wont be coming to this iPad?

        • Currently unknown. I expect it will eventually be made available on iPads.

  • Anyone recommend a case for this thing? I'm looking for something that has a hand loop on it.

  • Anyone else own all 3 iPads?

  • Most JB Hi-Fi in Western suburbs of Melbourne have stock of all models.

They won't pricematch as they said Target and BigW are out of stock. They are selling it for $7-8 less than BigW/Target.

    IE: $675 for 15GB Wi-Fi + 4G vs $668/669.

Ring your local store to check stock levels.

  • +1

Shawn: 8 bucks more for 1 less GB sounds like a poor deal or is it the other way round?

  • voice dictation sucks on this thing, maybe needs an update, i got the black 32gb wifi from bigw livo, they had heaps in stock

  • I'm keen to get one of these tomorrow (if anywhere still has stock) but checking the Big W website the prices there are MUCH higher then what they're said to be on here, and also even higher then Apple themselves!

Has Big W put their prices up since today? :S http://www.bigw.com.au/electronics/ipad/new-ipad

    Trav

  • lol holyshit they have increased! Glad I bought first day, screen is f@@king amazing!!! Posting from "the new iPad"

    • amazing screen indeed, I cant look at other screens the same anymore!!
Retina 65 inch panel anyone? lol

  • those website prices are an error, they are all the Ipad2 prices.

  • Just purchased from big w warringah mall (nsw) and can confirm this bargain is still correct. Around 8 or so left under the counter. Asked guy about higher prices for new model on big w website but he didn't know

Saturday 11AM I picked a "New iPad" 16GB Wifi up from MYER for $499 price matching Target.

Was kinda surprised the 16GB models were still in stock more than 24 hours after release..

I didnt bother walking the extra distance to Big W to try and save $1 - especially since the website prices were much higher, and wanted to use my Myer One reward card as the iPad purcahse provides half the points for a $20 gift card (so kinda $10 off… later)

    • can you post the receipt form myer?

I went to myer and a guy showing a manager badge I talk to says they cannot price match $499 as it is below the cost and mention BigW whould be in trouble with Apple as they sell below apple price.

      • If so they would have had trouble long time ago… Matching or not is their right apparently. But lame and silly excuses are not accepted.

      • +1

The Myer Manager is either a liar or an idiot, or both.

Manufacturers, wholesalers may set a RRP (recommended retail price).

They cannot, however, force companies to only sell at that price.

The way Apple makes sure that prices are near to the RRP is by offering retailers only a very small margin on all products, so if they want to make a profit, they have to sell near RRP.

Of course, there are ways to get around this, by limiting supply or enforcing different payment terms on the retailers, but any company caught doing this is subject to heavy fines.

Another way some of the European white goods appliance makers get around this is to appoint a retailer as merely their agent, with all sales really done with the manufacturer directly. That way they can ensure no discounting occurs.

I don't think Apple cares really. As long as they get paid, it is up to the retailer to determine their profit margin or otherwise.

      • Myer always uses "below cost" as an excuse not to price match. From my experience, I seriously believe that their "cost price" isn't actually what it costs the company, but a lower bound on their margins below which their staff are not authorised to sell. It's a complete croc.

    • can you post the receipt? if one of ht myer store allow them other shop shuld be able to so if I show the receipt them they would probably agree.

  • +1

Most of the Big W stores would have run out of stock. Or at least the popular ones. Anyone have idea how soon apple will provide more stock for Big-W?

For those who did get a price match at GG, HN, JB, Myer…that is just an awesome effort. Must be a nice rep/sales you talked to. I am tending to believe you must be a HOTTIE wearing the minimal clothes when approaching the staff. At least what I have ring up/walked in to all the JB/HN around my area wouldn't do price match or even $510 for the basic wifi 16GB model.

Guess I have to wait until Big-W restocks them. Come-on apple….

    • +1

The guy at MYER said as long as it wasnt below cost price they would match… he checked and said $499 was OK to match.

    • +1

Seeing as the next 'batch' of preorders comes in 2-3 weeks, I'd say it'd be the same for retail store stock, give or take :)

  • +1

Anyone in WA know which BigW store has 16GB WiFi in stock now? Thanks.

  • +1

Wish i had of gotten one - oh well until the next sale comes along.

  • +1

Got mine at the Warringah Mall store yesterday arvo.

Have got one through vodafone instead.

Price is cash only and pickup 3174 area.

  • Anyone know about stock levels for any big w in NSW?

    • I asked at Macquarie yesterday and they only had 16 and 32GB 4G, and 64Gb both (I think).

  • I'm currently selling the New Ipad WHITE 32GB WiFi + 4G for $750. Picked up from Target last Sunday, still brand new & sealed. :)

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/66592

  • Its time for a refund Now…. As ACCC claims Ipad ain't 4G

  • these are still available at certain BigW stores.
One of my mates bought one yesterday at Rouse Hill

Don't know if anyone has thought of this but if anyone already has an entertainment book/card http://www.entertainmentbook.com.au/ you can get a $500 Big W gift card for $475 - use the gift card to by the ipad and you get it for $475 (the book does cost $65 initially - but if you have one already it would be worth it)
