Glad to see Cebu Pacific coming back to Oz. A budget-conscious way to fly to Manila and beyond.

  • -3

Good luck with that. I hear the legroom is miniscule.

    • +1

I'm a 100kg guy and i flew with Cebu without issues. not as good as singapore airlines or Qantas but its manageable

    • I am both tall and cheap. Booked the cheap seats and they moved me to the long leg zone

  • Good price! Currently looking at April-May.

  • +5

Make sense for them to put up flights sale for July-Sept , stormy season

  • Has anyone flown with Cebu before?

    • +5

We did and as long as you keep in mind that they are a budget carrier, then they're fine (not bad, not great). Good cheap option to have. Note that their legroom is small - I am 6'1" and I probably have 1 inch of space left from my knees to the seat in front. I normally just end up paying for the exit row seats

That was a journey… 10am flight, delays and delays until like the 6th flight before we demanded to be put on the next flight else we'd miss the connection and they'd have to comp for that flight too. About 7 hrs later we were in the air.

    • +1

As above, keep in mind they are a budget carrier however we've had no problems flying long-distance with them (or local in PH) before, flight crew are generally happy and helpful which is good when traveling with a baby.

They're also surprisingly responsive with customer-service via FB or call.
In addition - although it took them many months to process - they provided a full refund, without any issues, for the flights we booked pre-covid that were cancelled due to lockdown.

I have a house in the phils and i still wouldnt dare go there next year.

    • +3

      Why is that?

If you've had your booster shot it may be best time to go before mass tourism is in full swing once again.

      • +1

The country is poorly controlled with the management of COVID. You are highly likely to get covid there, its a poor country where people have to pay for vaccination and on top of that they are getting sinovac which has like 50% efficacy.

        • +2

Lucky we haven't been immunised with sinovac then :) We are well protected.

You'll be waiting years and years to go.

          • +2

@tranter: Doesn't mean you wont get it. you are better protected, however if you still get unwell over there and for whatever reason require hospitalisation it will still be out of pocket.
Im travelling next year (took advantage of the hawaii tickets) but wouldn't go to philippines. it's just too risky. Honestly i didnt even think australia was going to open its doors to the Phils.
Maybe i'm a bit scared, as i know from my inlaws how worrying the situation is there, and maybe by the time july hits it will all go well, but i'm still reluctant until i see the situation improve over there.

              Travel insurance?

              • +2

@seamonkey: the cost is one thing. but they're still averaging 2k plus cases a day. so the hospitals are in capacity and aren't taking anymore patients. even some beds are in the carparks. if you contacted covid they'll ask you to stay at home. for a local, that is not too bad. at least you got relatives to look after you, hopefully. for a foreigner travelling alone, that a grim prognosis specially if the symptoms are severe.

                • @deck_oz: Yeah. To be fair I was focused purely on the financial. I've been there probably 30 times, I'd say all my trips would add up to 15 months of living there. I'm not filipino but my kids are. Point is, I absolutely know what you are talking about. Miss the place like crazy but yeah have no intention of going until everything settles down. The stories you speak of about real time are accurate - I speak to friends there most days. Just optimistic it'll be different come these flight dates - though not optimistic enough to actually book. Yet.

                  • +1

@seamonkey: As long as my kids are fully vaccinated and we've had our booster shots, we'll be going next year. The area we travel to is actually doing quite well in regards to Covid. We stay with family the whole time, so are connected locally and help is available if we need it. It's already been 3 years since family over there have seen the kids, it will be years more if we wait for the 'right' time. Who knows how longer the grandparents, etc will live. We are not prepared to miss out on these things when we can travel in a responsible and safe way.

                  @deck_oz:

The intensive care unit (ICU) bed utilization rate in Metro Manila and across the country was at 40 percent and 42 percent, respectively.

Its bad, but not as bad as you think. Cases are dropping etc. and vaccinations are rising.

              • +3

@seamonkey: Nearly all travel insurances do not cater or cover for covid related illnesses.
and as Deck _Oz mentioned people are being looked after in the streets and in carparks. Hospitals are over capacity there.

                • @maverickjohn: There are quite a few that offer at least limited Covid insurance.

        • +1

Not entirely true, COVID vax is free and sinovac is used probably 1/3 of the time equal to astra zeneca. The tech between sino and astra is the same and have similar results on a lot of studies.

Vaccine uptake is nowhere near Oz though because of raw population size but it will get there.

          • @pao2x: Apologies only Johnson and Johnson is paid , Sinovac is free

      • +1

Their double-dose vax rate is currently sitting about 22% (last time I checked) and they have many millions of very-low-income people to manage, it's not an easy situation.
Even at the best of times medical care outside of the big cities is a challenge and would be a consideration for anyone visiting soon.

    • +3

yeah if there's no urgent reason to go, best to wait it out.

    • Maverickjohn, I haven’t been home for over two years. But same here, I wouldn’t dare go next year. I don’t know if COVID is better managed in other provinces than in mine. My father in law got sick and died last month. He wasn’t able to see a doctor or go to hospital as they were all full capacity with COVID patients. My heart hurts at how he suffered for a month at home then died in agony without any medical care or attention.

  • What's to do in Manilla?

    • Work.

It may be a good option if the flight times are suitable

    • +10

Get out. The sooner the better. The islands are much better than staying in the capital.

      • +2

True. From Manila, immediately get a domestic flight out to the islands. Just don't fly Sept-Nov. Typhoons!

      • Pre-covid domestic flights to most other locations were about $20-100, so if you are going for a holiday, you could spend a few days in Manila for the sake of it then transit to other islands.

      • +1

Also probably safer due to less population. As much as Iove the Philippines, the country is absolutely rife with COVID-19 right now and their hospital system is stretched to breaking point.

    • Shopping :)

      Camiguin, Siquijor, Cebu, Bohol.

    • Cordillera Region mountains to the north are very nice too and not humid at all.

There is a certain National Party federal politician who will be pretty happy with these prices.

    • hahaha

    • Can we get a gofundme and send the lot of them all over there? One way ticket.

      • +3

What have you got against the Philippine people?
That's a bit like sending Rolf Harris to the UK.

        • +1

I'm sure they'll sponsor the local economy there with the way they handle themselves internationally.

  • -1

Can we use Rapid Antigen testing for flights to Phillipines?

  • Does the airline charge no show fee in case can't fly?

  • -3

Avoid if u can, they can reschedule your flights and dont provide any remedy like change city or change to a different flight time/day. Only option is refund. We suffered in 2019 as due to their schedule changes, we would have missed a connecting flight(also on Cebu) to Bohol. Ended up going to Manila using Qantas. Best decision ever!

  • -2

I will never use this airline again. Last time flight was delayed for almost 12 hours! Classic example of paying peanuts you get monkeys.

  • -1

There is $29 flights there for one way direct. Great deal +1. Just did a family of 4 return with extras for 1600. Cheers. Cebu Pacific is ok, no worse than Cathay Pacific. All about the destination. A+

I fly 3 of us many times under $1000 over the years. Internet all the way. Never had a major delay. As long as you pay for the flexability options, you can swap out with notice
