Hi everyone on OzBargain,

We have read all the comments and are sincerely sorry for this to be happened. We also understand that you may be dissatisfied with the outcome and the refund process so we would like to make the statement below to explain:

Harris Technology wishes to explain that an internal administrative error has resulted in the cancellation of eBay customer orders.

The incident occurred when a $15 promotional coupon for Harris Technology products listed on eBay, which was meant for a one-time use by one customer only, was inadvertently not made ‘unique’ to that customer enabling it to be used generally. With that being said, Harris Technology acknowledges that the voucher error resulted from an internal company mistake and not that of eBay or its customers.

Upon discovery of the administrative error, Harris Technology cancelled the discount coupon and notified all customers who had used it that their orders were cancelled. As part of the seller cancellation process on these affected orders, Harris Technology used the ‘Buyers Address’ checkbox as the reason for cancelling the order as there was no voucher-related option.

Harris Technology has been in regular communication with eBay to ensure affected customers would have their purchase refunded and these have now been processed.

Measures have been taken to ensure the mistake does not occur again.

All customers that had an order cancelled after using the promotional voucher have been offered a new $15 discount voucher which can be applied to purchases over $100 Valid till 31 Dec 2021

Why was the code generic and advertised by eBay? It even had T&Cs

    • -7

      Hi there
We are investigating that and can confirm it was meant to be one-time use only. Overall, it was still an internal administrative error and we are terribly sorry for all the inconvenience it may have caused.

      • +4

When will you admit that it being a "one-time use only" code is a blatant lie?

        • -3

It was planned as an one-time use only but somehow there're some administrative errors that makes it become public and a generic code.
Overall, it was still an internal administrative mistake either because lack of setting up coupon experience, lacking of communication, lacking of crosschecking and so forth.

@HTDealAdmin: And then suddenly everyone got their address wrong in eBay, thankfully HT comes to the rescue and let us know about it.

          • @HTDealAdmin: Much lacking.

One thing you don't lack in is lying. Comes second nature to you bunch.

  • +4

Yep - HT requires training in customer relations and grammar.

      Thanks for the comment

  • Needing a headset for work. Anyone own the HS35 and can vouch on the microphone quality?

  • +5

Why did you lie when cancelling everyone's orders - suggesting it was an issue with the buyers address.. because there was no voucher option? Please. The voucher isn't worth the digital ink it's written on. $100 minimum spend. LOL

    • -3

      Thanks for the comment.
It was an internal administrative error and we have acknowledged that in the statement. We just want to make it clear here that it was a genuine mistake that we made internally. We are truly sorry for this.
The cancellation reason was selected because we cannot find "Coupon Error" , if there's an "Other-Specify" cancellation reason we will definitely go with that reason. So it's not we want to lie to a customer, it's because there's no this option. Even we choose "out of stock" as the reason it will be consider as a "lie" too. It was not our intent to snowball the situation, we are trying our best to make-up the mistake.

We are sorry to let you know that harristechnologyaustralia cancelled your order and mentioned the cancellation reason as 'Something was wrong with the buyer's delivery address.'

I don't mind having my order cancelled, but this cancellation reason is a blatant lie.

    • but there was no crappy voucher option!

  • +3

There is nothing wrong with my delivery address. I have received thousands of dollars worth of eBay orders through that address this year.

We are sorry that your order cannot be fulfilled, and we are trying our best to make you feel better by offering the same amount of discount but on a minimum purchase of $100 so we will be able to cover the cost of shipping/man-power/eBay service fees etc
      Sorry again for this incident

Or you know, contacted ebay before actioning. Maybe they have a solution thats doesn't require a lie, besides you wouldn't be the first to stuff up on a promotion/coupon. But your first instinct is to lie speaks volumes.

Thanks for the explanation. Decent deal on the monitor.

Unfortunately, HT needs to realise that incidents like these can not be treated as simple mistakes. In fact, I'll daresay that the company has squandered an opportunity to raise the bar of customer delight with their disappointing response email, which was tardy, ineffective and frankly, indifferent. Everything from the content of the "apology" message to its intent was flawed. I can think of at least five different ways this situation could have been handled, that could have resulted in a positive customer experience, and possibly a word-of-mouth recommendation from several thousand ozbargainers, which is a marketing gold standard.

I had a mediocre opinion of Harris Technology before the incident (due to several reasons), which remains largely unchanged, with the exception that I'll probably not consider revising it ever. Yes, there will some of us who will still buy from HT when the price is the cheapest, but there will also be a lot like me who'll prefer spending a couple of bucks extra elsewhere. If you don't believe me, ask Mr Harvey.

Rant over, time for a few drinks before tomorrow's slog!

    • Thanks for the support.
Yes, we have learned a lot from this incident and agreed that this situation could have been handled better to turn it into a marketing gold standard.
We are trying to make everyone feels better by offering the same amount of discount but on a minimum purchase of $100 so we will be able to cover the cost of shipping/man-power/eBay service fees etc

      • We are trying to make everyone feels better

What a half-arsed attempt at that.

  • $15 off with $100 is just nothing on ebay, eBay run promotion for 20% off regularly.

So just save all your coupons as rarely people will use it.

For 1 customer one off code there is always better way then generate a one off code on eBay, just refund the customer after they place the order? This explanation is outright unacceptable.

Trust being build over time and get destroy by one mistake. Sorry HT, do better next time and everytime.

    • Thanks for the comment, agreed that there is always better way to generate a one off code on eBay, so we have acknowledged it was an internal administrative error in the statement.
The coupon error was set as "no limit spend". e.g. A $14.98 products will be $0.30 while a normal eBay 20% off will be $11.98.

    This store is dodgy!

WELL I'M GOING TO GIVE HARRIS TECHNOLIGY another chance… i just hope that they actually honour this ''promotion deal'' unlike my other purchase that was cancelled > very disappointing!

However this is a very good deal if they honour the sale > purchased 2 of these headphones for $68-40 and then applied the discount code MYPLUSGKM7CKTC7M which took another $5 off the total price to $63.80 delivered > the best price for just one of them everywhere else is around $50 to $65 each… so i'm almost getting 2 of them for the price of 1

"Internal admilnistrative error"…what did you do, HTDealAdmin?
    Clean out your desk.

    • Thanks for the comment

      • Thanks for your reply.
"…somehow" I guess no one will ever figure out the error. Cheeky, ambiguous "admin".
Plenty of cut & paste left I see.
Also…is this your urine in my pocket? It is.

  • In an interesting twist I was able to provide feedback on the cancelled order in Ebay. Go to the leave feedback section on ebay and it might be there.

Still has the balls to show up on Ozbargain after the last debacle.

  • No thanks.
