17817

I'm expecting this post to be "turning red" given the last few SUBS deals so here goes….

Source -

Big news coming out of Disney+. Disney Pixar’s next highly-anticipated animated film “Turning Red” is being pulled from its previously announced theatrical release and instead, it’s headed straight to Disney+.

@Disneyplus took to Twitter to announce the news with a brief teaser trailer noting, “Disney and Pixar’s #TurningRed will stream exclusively on #DisneyPlus beginning March 11.”

Users who wish to block "Additions to Subscription Services" can do so by adding SUBS to their deals customisation. * Xbox Game Pass, Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus etc. are considered additions to subscription services. You can also block seeing deals from certain stores or users by hitting the hide button below. Discussion Thread

This will go well with Telstra's free 12-month Disney+ subscription!

    • Wait what?

      How?

      • +1

Was targeted but log into Telstra Rewards Hub to see if eligible

        • +1

Not sure if it's targeted. They had a huge banner on the side of the telstra shop in Melbourne CBD advertising it. Might just have to go in store.

      • +6

        How?

        It's a secret, we can't TelstrYa

  • +3

Sad. Pixar is best enjoyed on the big screen

    • +5

85" is quite big for a normal home.

      • +17

And from 1 meter away, it's even bigger than an IMAX screen!

    • -1

Pixar is best enjoyed on the big screen

It's the same movie no matter if you watch it in the comfort and safety of your own home or if you watch it in an overpriced germ filled cinema.

      • +17

I frequent a reasonably priced germ filled cinema.

      • +3

but what about the comfort and safety of your germ filled house?

      • +1

So true, it's amazing we ever survived going to the movies as kids with all the dangerous gangs of thugs and viruses waiting for us at the doors with baseball bats.

  • +8

    In 59 days? That's a record

  • +1

    …. have put a reminder for it….

  • +1

only if i renew my membership.

    • +1

+1 my annual subscription expires end of this month

  • +4

Shame about the cinemas but straight to streaming means I'll be able to watch it elsewhere in HQ. Thanks for the heads-up

  • No Boba Fett

  • Off-topic but when will Sing 2 generally be available on Disney+?

    • +9

Well the first one isn't on there, and it's not a Disney movie.

      • +1

Shite I just saw the movie and thought it's a Disney one, kids has been harassing me to go watch it but with the Omni around not sure if it's the best idea.

Ok Sing is on Amazon Prime Video, and I do have annual subscription to that one.

        • It’s also on Binge

          • +9

It's certainly available on the high seas, if you want to set sail.

    • Ozrottentomato?

  • Just fyi for anyone out there wondering about getting Disney+ - I pay for my Disney+ subscription using the credit I generate with Google Opinion Rewards.
It's the next best thing to getting it for free.

    • How does it work and how much effort is it to pay say for 1 month?

      • +4

You answer 1 question every few days for $0.26-$0.31 I struggle to see how he pays a whole sub I've only made $2 in a month.

        • lol
so far this month I have answered 12 surveys for $4.66.

          • +8

@Almost Banned: I dunno man,i just go to work for one hour and make $40 instead

            • +4

@dbmitch: The surveys are all 1-3 questions long and just select dot points, takes <10sec to do one. I do them at work ;)

            • @dbmitch: Like Agret said - those 12 surveys probably took less than 3 minutes combined.

    • How? I thought they closed that loop.

….or maybe that was Netflix? 🤔

      • Disney+ can definitely be done with Google credit

    • All I get is.. this qn doesn't give you credit qns

  • Eternals is available from today, btw.

    • It's available right now?

    • +1

Ewwwww, maybe if it's free or something.

      • +1

But it will be free from tomorrow… ;)

    • Tomorrow.

  • +31

I guess I'll take JV's reigns for tonight and kick this shindig off (no hate towards you dealbot, just the practice of posting these 'deals'): I expect new, exclusive content (whether it goes to the cinema first or not) as part of the Disney subscription I pay $119.99 per year for.

    • And they add plenty of new exclusive content in the form of their Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, etc shows.

It's a bit much to expect Pixar movies to be free all the time.

      • +5

Is it a bit much though? The average Joe frequents the cinema maybe 2 times a year (if at all given the place of streaming today). It's slowly but surely becoming commonplace to expect a new film (whether it be on Disney or Netflix or Amazon) to be released on these platforms.

Who would have thought a film with Leo Dicaprio and Jennifer Lawrence would go straight to streaming and not a cinema say 5-6 years ago?

It's not that far-fetched to see that based on the way Disney is going that certain Pixar titles will hit Disney+ instead of going to a cinema (even if they were scheduled for a cinema release first — someone would've posted this 'deal' even if it had gone to a cinema)

My point being, I'm knowingly subscribing to Disney's service as I know they'll have new content on there be it shows or movies.

        • The actual average cinema visits is 6+ per year according to screen Australia.
          https://www.screenaustralia.gov.au/fact-finders/cinema/audie…

There's usually a difference in quality in a movie made to premiere straight on streaming services and those destined for the cinema.

I downvote series and movies headed to these services if that was it's original place to premiere. My point I guess is there is a perceived value saved as you are not visiting the cinema as you would have had to, and as above the quality of it not being 'direct to dvd'.

          • +4

@Gehirn: Those stats were last updated in 2019 and as mentioned, streaming has become more commonplace today so the average number is no doubt going to be lower when they update those stats when the events of the last 2 years are factored in. I would see a film every week prior to Covid, but I'm sure a family of 4 wouldn't be at the cinema 6 times a year unless they were quite well off (given it would cost them close to $100 if they were getting snacks and what have you) though I could be wrong depending on people's viewing habits and interests. Then again, I'm not sure how they go about gathering their data (most of those visits might be from people like me who saw at the very least 20 films a year, prior to covid which may have been averaged out with 2 films from a family of 4, I'm not sure).

That's just my take as I don't see it as a deal regardless of whether it was supposed to be released in a cinema. As mentioned, this post would have come about in the months prior to it hitting Disney+ if it had gone to the cinema first so I still would have shared the same feelings.

        • +1

Who would have thought a film with Leo Dicaprio and Jennifer Lawrence would go straight to streaming and not a cinema say 5-6 years ago?

Having watched that movie, while good, was definitely made by a bunch of celebs with not much else to do :)

    • +21

      Exactly.

New content being added to a streaming service isn't a bargain – it's why people subscribe and stay subscribed to them.

Just because some company is releasing some movie on their streaming service instead of in cinemas doesn't make it a bargain. Just because some company said some movie was coming out in cinemas first but then release it on their streaming service first doesn't make it a bargain.

Should there be a post for every new movie and TV show added to Netflix, Stan, Disney+, Apple TV+, Foxtel Now, Amazon Prime Video, Paramount+, Binge, and the rest? Of course not! If that happened, OzBargain wouldn't be about bargains anymore – it would be just be a list new content on streaming services.

Don't turn OzBargain into a list of new content on streaming services. Keep OzBargain about bargains!

      • But this isn't just a normal movie. This was a planned theatrical release that is now part of the subscription. There is an extreme difference in quality between movies made for theatres and those made specifically for streaming services (although that gap in difference is narrowing)

        • +1

A wise person once said "Just because some company said some movie was coming out in cinemas first but then release it on their streaming service first doesn't make it a bargain."

          • -2

@robothat: A wise person once said "Users who wish to block "Additions to Subscription Services" can do so by adding SUBS to their deals customisation".

    • +6

You forgot the random bold words.

    • +6

Agreed. I take issue with it being called 'free' when clearly you have to pay (the subscription fee) to access it. Not free, expected as part of the subscription, not a bargain.

  • +13

Sigh. I too am expressing that 'features' of a subscription are not a 'deal'. I know I'm in the minority on this view, and I'll just set up those stupid settings to not show me these deals.

    • +3

It's not a regular feature though.

“Turning Red” is being pulled from its previously announced theatrical release and instead, it’s headed straight to Disney+.

      • +4

It’s a regular feature of the covid era, the one going for 2 years now, and with Omicron really kicking off, can see why Disney sees no value in cinema attendance or it has test reviewed poorly

also a “deal” (aka a normal release for a streaming platform) for 2 months away is pointless

        • -1

If only there was a way to set a reminder…

          • +1

@Daabido: Reminders are for the dentist and rectal exams not a random release on a streaming platform

            • @thesainter: My calendar is full up with reminders. Not one of them is for a rectal exam, but you do you.

              • @Daabido: Maybe need to add sarcasm detector to your reminders

        • +1

Regular feature but not a sure thing as shown during the time inbetween Delta and Omicron when they were releasing movies at cinemas.

    • I'm inclined to agree

    • +1

When called to a vote on the forums it was an overwhelming no but the site admins have ruled "these deals got upvotes so we are disregarding the vote". It's not about what constitutes a deal so much as "what generates clicks/revenue for ozbargain". It's important for them to get as many ad impressions as they can so the site can keep running.

  • Thanks, reminder set.

  • -4

I’m going to downvote every shitty fake ‘deals’ like this

    • +18

If everyone does what you do disney plus will become disney minus

    • +1

      Solidarity comrade! ✊

  • Thanks for the deal, going to grab it.

  • +9

The show is part of your subscription you pay for. No bargain here.

    • +3

Many of us rotate between subscription services. I'll come back to Disney+ for this + eternal + Bobba Fett + Encanto for example, hence in 2 months time. For me those posts are valuable.
You can just hide those subs posts (replying randomly to your comment but could have been to any other complaining about it)

      • +5

This movie doesn't make it better value. You pay your subscription because you expect there to be shows like this produced or added. If I want to see what's coming up on streaming, I go to a website that shows this info, not a bargain site.

        • -1

Only 13 downvote. Clearly the majority of haters have embraced the new OZB feature and moved on.
Why wasting your time to come here and comment while you could just have excluded subs deals.
Also why would I check every now and then what's available when I can get a community to point me out what's worth coming + additional comments of like-minded members with same interest.

          • +2

@ShouldIBuyIt: Most comments are a waste of time, including mine ans yours.

          • +1

@ShouldIBuyIt: Because using a shared computer at times means everytime I want to look at this website and apply these settings, I have to login. Most people who look at this site aren't logged in so have no say and maybe they don't care or maybe they are in the same boat as me.

            • @colaman: You must be stuck in 2009. You can use smartphones those days.

              • @ShouldIBuyIt: No mate, hence why I said at times. I like using a desktop too.

      • -1

Anyone on here with a brain knows how much of a scan all these services are and just gets whatever they want whenever they are.

  • +1

I’ll set the reminder to get my ship ready.

  • Anyone know when No way home will release on disney?

    • +4

in about a year and a half, I believe Sony has a deal in place with a streaming on demand company (cant remember which one) where they get it for 6 months then another streaming site will have it and it will finally end up on disney plus after a while same thing that happened to far from home

      • In the US No way home will go on itunes/play movie etc in march. After this it will go on STARZ for 12 months.

        • Disney plus deal is for Sony's releases starting 2022 so still quite a while to go before it lands there

  • +1

    Good things come in 3's

    • Telstra' free Netflix for 12 months
    • Paramount+ 12 months subscription for $5
    • Netflix Turkey for 🥜

Thank you OzBargain. I'm thankful for all these great deals.

Paying it forward with upvotes! Have one on me dealbot.

  • +2

Can we please just add a separate subscription section to Ozbargain so we don't have to have the same old argument about their deal validity credentials?
The top bar of ozbargain could then read: Deals. Subs. Comps. Forums.
And then allow customising your home page to either include traditional "Deals" only, or "Deals" + "Subs" together.

    • +1

      people just want their argument.
if its not this it'll be something else

      • +3

Not really no. This is just plain stupid really. The "discussion" thread where this was pondered over had an overwhelming No majority for such posts. Obviously there's an underlying issue at play here and thus the mods/management are playing the rhetoric. One may presume that "deals" like these would drive traffic to the website and appeal to a wider audience etc.

        • +1

but i think there isn't anything inherently bad with these posts apart from the fact its obviously just a tv guide/notification and not a deal.

tbh. its a bit borderline/grey. Movies on demand on sbs etc are generally considered deals. This is sort of an extension of that.

          people just want their argument.

i probably just think everyone is trollish like me. lol

          • +4

@gimli: Movies on services like iView or SBS On Demand aren’t deals! 😅

    • +1

Or you just hide the subs and stop whinging about it

  • -4

This is not a deal but rather than listening to the community the mods just remove negative votes, their pockets must be lined by Disney
