Hmm, seems the champagne miles is the better deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/676149

    • This post is pointless. A regular referral from the randomiser nets you a better deal.

      Qantas Ultimate Card:
Referee: 110,000 Qantas Points after $3,000 Spend + $200 back + $450 Travel Credit each year
      Referrer: 40,000 points.

      • I clicked through the referral link and I could not see $200 cash back anywhere. 110,000 points is there but no cash back.

        • -1

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It was a copy & paste job from the randomiser at 1:45AM. The referral information may need updating.

  • Was just checking out my referral page and it is now showing 130k for the referee and 50k for the referrer.

    • Can you send me a referral ?

  • Title needs to be updated!! 130k Points now :)

I took the Champagne Mile offer for 120k points, was beating myself up and realised that it included a $100 Cash Back as well… so I think I am ok … Lol.. for anyone wanting a sneaky 130k point, hit this up… I don't think I have seen the ultimate give so many points…

Unfortunately the Qantas reward availability is quite poor at the moment!

    • It really deserves its own post after being changed from 100k to 130k points. It's going from being a crappy deal to being on par with the previous popular deals. I imagine most people will miss this because it's not a new post and therefore won't trigger any notifications.

  • I understand if you cancel your card (to avoid the $450 annual fee) and have an unused Qantas Amex travel credit, that credit disappears.

I have no immediate use for this credit but want to close my card. What would happen if I book flights with the credit, cancel my card and then cancel the flights? Would I receive a standard Qantas (not Amex oriented) credit?

    • Maybe not the exact situation you are looking for but something fortunate that happened to me.
I booked my flights with the credit before cancelling my Amex card. Sometime after this, Amex Travel notified me of an unexpected flight change that did not suit me. Amex offered me 2 options, a full cash refund of the fare back into my (now closed) card account, or Qantas held travel credit. I obviously went for the cash refund. Once I confirmed the refund I was able to request the cash credit on my closed account be transferred to my bank account with no issues. (Almost the full $450 amount)

This tells me they may be able to least pass on Qantas' policy on travel credit if you cancel on your own accord.

  • Is the 3000 spend based on specific type of transactions or any spending?

  • I think this has reverted back to 100,000 QP? Needs the title updated again.

    • still at 130,000 for me. where did you see 100,000?

  • Seems to still be available, why was this marked as targeted?

  • Just got approved for this one - combined with the 20k points offer from Qantas so I should be getting a nice and healthy 150k points

    • just reading their write up.. how did they ask you for the "details of your income, expenses, and debts"? thanks!

      • Typical credit card application form, credit check, personal details, asked for salary, typical monthly expenses and then I had to submit a payslip.

  • Just a newbie question.. It says this is targeted in this post. But can someone explain how its targeted? Like I cant get this deal if I dont get the right referrer? Is that correct? Many thanks!!

  • This one doesn’t specifically say that you are not eligible to get the bonus Qantas points if you have got any bonus though applying credit card in the past 12 months. I applied another credit card last year and received 130k bonus points, it hasn’t been 12 months, am I eligible?

    • No, there is an 18 month wait before you can sign up again and get the bonus. Standard on all AMEX and in the T&Cs

      • Sorry, let me clarify, the other credit card is not Amex.

        • As far as I'm aware, it's whether you've held an Amex in the past 18 months. But check the T&Cs (I'm not associated with Amex)

  • Was about to help a relative to apply for this, looks like it's gone back down to 120k? Also what is the minimum credit limit and salary required for this or there isn't one?

    • Yes, for me is showing the same. Eligibility: 18 years or over, Australian citizen or permanent resident or hold a current Business Long Stay Visa (subclass 457), Personal gross (pre-tax) annual income of $65,000 or more, No history of bad debt or payment default.

      • Wow did they change their approval process recently? They now require you to upload photos of your driver's licence and a short selfie video capture thing. Also my relative had to call AMEX up after several days of silence to find out that they were waiting on income proof documents, since AMEX hadn't bothered to send out any emails about it with upload links etc. Was definitely much smoother and proactive when I got the card last year.

        • Re the bonus points, 130k for Qantas Ultimate, 150k Amex Explorer, 300k Platinum, if you don't see it, try another day or another browser. This fluctuates everyday hence Amex has the disclaimer "if you leave the page, you might not see the offer again" for these bonus offers. My wife applied for the Explorer last Friday at 110k and on Tuesday we saw that at 150k. Had to ring up to cancel the initial application and reapplied again to get the 150k. Also had a chat with Amex since I remember my platinum card was approved within 5 minutes. Seems like there had been a flood of identity theft going on hence they are slightly tightening their process. Wife is still waiting for her approval confirmation at the moment.

          • @Feiniao: Thanks, that's interesting to know that the website details fluctuates. Though I personally don't think the 10k is worth the hassle of cancelling an existing application and credit check and reapplying all over again, but good to know for next time around.
A lot of the other banks don't seem to have tightened their security checks to the extent that AMEX has of asking for biometric stuff.

  • Hi, just confirming - Cant you book hotels/car hire as these options are there on the Amex travel page? If there is a credit available on the website I am sure it can be used on any product on the website right?

  • Does anyone have a Qantas ultimate referral? I don't have an ABN so can't use the business one 🙁

    • +1

I do. PM me for details

  • Is there still a $200 back on Qantas Ultimate Card? I don’t see it in the website.

  • Has anyone been approved for this card if you have been employed with your current employer for less than 6 months? ie. I have only been there two months, is this likely to result in automatic rejection?

Also were you required to submit payslips for this card upon approval?

Finally is the referral still available for this card, and if so what is the current offer in terms of referral points for referrer and referee?

    • +1

Amex will ask you for any details such as payslips to validate income upon application. Sorry I don’t really know about the duration of employment and whether this has any weight.

Current offer on the Qantas Ultimate is 75000 Qantas points after $3k spend in first 3 months, and additional 25000 Qantas points on first anniversary for the applicant. Referrer gets 30000 Qantas points :)

  • I only realised the Travel credit could be used for hotels as well for those who thought it's for flights only.

    • Really? I thought you could only book Qantas flights with it? How do you use it for hotels?

      • I mean the $450 travel credit. In the AMEX booking page, you can choose the Hotel tab, search the hotel, and make a booking.

        • Have you actually been able to make a hotel booking? I think you can search it but not sure if it allows you to actually book it with the credit?

  • Can you confirm that is still correct? Referee: 110,000 Qantas Points after $3,000 Spend + $200 back + $450 Travel Credit each year and Referrer: 40,000 points. Thanks
