Harvey Norman $300 Cashback on Any Ultrabook

3110

Hey guys, saw this on tv, seems that this is a good deal:

http://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-aspire-s3-951-2364g34iss… for $488.

I'm not sure if they are cashback vouchers or cash, just saw the ad on tv, and will update when/if I can find out more.

Pretty sure it said instore only also.

This may be useful also:

Found some more:

Not too sure why it has been negged though, not like all the staff would take all the stock…

  • I'll be keenly awaiting updates on this one. Almost bought the Acer S3 for around the $650 mark the other weekend, and that was a 'good' price.

  • +1

Ivy Bridge is just around the corner, and the early benchmarks for it show that it's quite the performance leap. IMHO better to wait for the next generation of ultrabooks since the first generation ones are pretty average.

Still a good deal though for anyone who really wants an ultrabook right now though if it is legit and HN don't jack up the sticker prices.

    • +30

If you keep waiting you'll never get a laptop. lol

      • +4

IMO it's better value to save up and spend a bit more especially when you know the next generation is literally a month away and offers a sizable performance increase.

Also, the current first generation of ultrabooks are pretty mediocre. For example the mentioned Acer Aspire S3 generally gets pretty average/bad reviews.

        • +4

And the Zenbook UX31 got good reviews. Are we really surprised the Acer offering didn't get good reviews? They've always been budget over design, and since the Ultrabook concept is a design heavy concept…

The fast booting features of Ivy Bridge are included in the current line of Zenbooks (I'm guessing other brands as well, but haven't looked into it). It's not integrated into the chipset, but it's been added. Same with USB3.0 - not natively supported by the chipset, but included.

There are also rumours that due to slow sales and the inability to clear existing stock you won't see full Ivy Bridge Ultrabooks until "late fall" which means October/November. So "knowing" it's literally a month away is, well, belief more than knowledge.

On top of that, Ivy Bridge doesn't seem to show a serious increase in performance. An increase? Yes. But a few percent for the most part. Even the power savings aren't huge. In idle mode almost no improvement.

I'm considering waiting for the Zenbook UX31A primarily for the 1920x1080 IPS screen. Ivy Bridge is a nice bonus, but hardly critical for Ultrabook type jobs.

          If I can get the Zenbook UX31E-RY009V for $1392 - $300 cashback… well, I think I can settle for a 1600x900 TN panel.

        • +1

Bought 2 of these for $1062 from GG at their leap year sale, DSE had a similar price online a week ago I think. Depends on what price HN apply the cashback to but $1090 for a zenbook wouldn't be that great.

        • Great? I guess not. As good as any other deal on it? According to you - pretty much yes.

Would I wait around hoping another place will put it on special? No. Same reason I wouldn't wait for the UX31A… then wait for the UX31A to go on special… then decide to wait for the UX31P…

        • Get a ultrabook $300 cheaper and spend it on a fast SSD i say (unless they already have one..hehe)… my crappy Atom laptop is going amazingly well in a nice intel SSD in it… just my opinion..

      • +2

"If you keep waiting you'll never get a laptop. lol"

This can be true of PC hardware, but it really depends how close the thing you're waiting for is. I mean, if a new generation of product is releasing TOMORROW you would wait, wouldn't you? What about next week, or next month? Still worth waiting for unless you need it now. There has got to be a line to draw somewhere where the wait is short enough to be worth it on one side, or far enough away that you don't ever buy anything. Where that line is draw is up to each individual to decide.

A generation of CPU usually lasts about 1.5 years. Sandy bridge released early 2011. You wouldn't wait 1.5 years for Ivy Bridge. But a month or two away from it, why not?

  • holy ding dong thats good deal if it works

  • Thanks OP. I'm reserving my positive until the deal is confirmed

  • It is on NON advertised ULTRABOOKS.
The ad I saw said from $799 after cash-back.
That was a HP folio i3 machine 128GB Solid state 9hr battery

So the s3 is already advertised at $788

  • Ivy bridge out in 1 month? thought was july or august?

  • would hp folio be included in the 300$ cashback?

  • OMG what a letdown. Went to HN on Saturday and the acer aspire s3 was $999 and best price they could do was $940. I was like WTF. Went to wireless1 and got it for $799.

Now they do this, WTH HN.

    • The $999 S3 you talked about must be the i5 model because i3 model is listed at $788 online.

      http://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-aspire-s3-951-2364g34iss…

But if it is the i5 model $999 is cheap.

      • The HN online prices doesn't always match the instore prices. Instore tends to be higher.

    • Yeah man. They only did this because you bought a laptop.
      Your purchase timing is bad.
      And you should feel bad.

  • does HN sell dell ? i want the xps 13 … :(

    • I think u can only buy it online or at Jbhifi!

      • or Harris Technology or Dell stores in shopping centres.

  • +3

receipt please cos its HN ready to NEGGGGG

  • +2

Thanks OP for watching tv for me, i wouldnt have known otherwise :)

  • Nice deal but any ultrabook without SSD is lame

    • +2

retract - i'm talking balls, you said 'any ultrabook'.. very good

  • Will u guys still but it if the $300 is HN's voucher?

  • Correct me if im wrong but doesnt the acer s3 listed for $799 have a 20gb ssd in it for caching. so u get 80% speed of an SSD for frequently used files?

    http://www.acer.com.au/ac/en/AU/content/model/LX.RSF02.078

    • Yeah, I'm pretty sure u are correct!

    • Are u talking about the $788 one on HN site? According to HN site it didn't say so only mentioned 320GB hard disk. But if it really comes with a 20GB SSD I think it will only used for the page files not really enough to speed it up a lot.

3 cell battery also not good enough for a ultrabook.

      • Like i said its for caching. So the important stuff like booting ur pc up quickly, starting up that web browser quickly. A SSA is a waste if you want to store stuff on it. You really use a SSD for thein that you want to load fast like the OS, browser… The bigger issue is the 3 cell battery

  • +4

    Just called HN Belrose.
Told firstly that $300 cashback only applies to regular prices, not sale prices which are shown in red on their website, so the ACER Aspire S3 at $788 is not included. Went on to say that all ultrabooks under $1000 are also excluded.
    Anyone got any different info?

    • I just bought the 788 ultrabook on weekend, so keen to know this as well

      • i believe the special is from this weekend

        • Really I didn't see the ads not very sure.

    • Did u ask them about the cash back? Is it cash back into bank account?

    • what about the acer that is $998
Can you ask them to jack the price up to a thousand dollars so you can get the cash back lol

    • in HN Preston now. guys here said $788 is for LAST ONE sale, not in store sale. you can get only one or the other, not both… disappointed!!!

      • walked by dicksmith! this one is $794 for ex display. will provide pic once get home.

    • OK, just went there.

Firstly, this is a cash back by redemption - you have to send a form in with your invoice.

Secondly, the $788 S3 is not included at that PRICE (as that is not the advertised price). The advertised price is $999 (which you can apply for a cashback) or ask for the online price of $788 without the cashback applied. So if you are looking for the S3, the cheapest you can get it for in HN is $699 (after cashback).

All ultrabooks (except apple) are included in this offer - so if you are after a higher end ultrabook - this might be of interest to you

    • If that's the case, the title of this bargain should be amended.

"Harvey Norman $300 Cashback on Any Ultrabook"

There are too many qualifiers that "Any" doesn't count. It should be substituted with "selected".

  • +3

This is not a bargain. It might be. But at the moment its not - cause noone knows what it is.

  • +2

Gf went in and was told the $996 HP folio wasn't included in the cashback, despite a big "$300 cashback" sign hanging off it. No real deals here. Just HN wasting our time.

    • Doing a DSE I see.

  • As I see it the only three worth seriously looking at for this deal are the Toshiba Satellite Z830/001 for $1,342, HP Folio 13-1008TU for $1,299 and Asus Zenbook UX31E-RY009V for $1,392.

All the others either the special doesn't apply to (too low price/already on special) or the discount isn't significant compared to the cost of the Ultrabook.

Personally I'm not a fan of the Folio or Toshiba design. But I'll probably go in for the Zenbook.

    • I think HN jack up the price in shop.

  • ASUS UX21E-KX007V Ultrabook is a good deal if $300 cashback applies.

    • I will give them $2 more to get the $300 cash back :p

BTW, is the cash back means CASH or voucher or visa debit card, etc.?

  • I spoke with local HN, from what I gathered its $300 cashback on RRP

I said so the $1499 Ulrabook that says $1298 is actually $1499 again

    and he said YES.

    • In that case we have to neg this deal ……

Anyone tried price match at officeworks?

    • In that case, pos removed.

  • Not a bargain.

  • Cash back only good if you have edu tax refund

  • I'd notice Hardly Normal has a tendency to sell Ultrabooks at prices above other retailers like JB Hi-Fi and the Good Guys. So while a $300 cashback does sound tempting, when you factor in everything else, it is still pricier than JB Hi-Fi having their usual 10-15% off computer sale. I would advise those interested to shop around for the best deals.

In my case, I found the HN staff in Sydney CBD area are VERY reluctant to match prices even when JB/GG are having sales. I know because I've enquired a number of times in the past. Nowadays I don't bother even calling HN. I find that the JB/GG staff do make a honest effort to try to match your bargains on top of discounts in order to get your sale but not HN.

    YMMV.

  • I wish HN would get their story right. Went into the Belrose store today and they said the $1000 qualifying price was a rough guide only. The $300 cashback applies to all the ultrabooks on display, but not those on special or in their catalogue, which in Belrose meant that only around 6 models qualified for the cashback. Misleading? I think so.

  • got the HP Folio 1008TU- selling for $1299 got for $999 after cashback, also get beats headphones by redemption "value" ahem $279. 1008TU has i5 and 128gb ssd.
other places are selling for around $1124 dse, $1247 officeworks, $1392 jbhifi.

  • HN brisbane broadway also had acer low spec s3 reduced from $109x to $799.. was also eligible for cash back.

  • +1

Hi all i brought the Acer s3 they have advertised on their site for $788 with the $300 cash back pro,o. I called this morning confirmed it and they held it with a $100 deposit with a credit card (I insisted they did) then I went in later on tonight and got it also was given the cash back paper work. So it works out to $488! Bargain hey seeing I could only find this model at JB 2 weeks ago for $672 after 15% off special. Mind you I'm not sure what everyone is going on about round the no cash back off discounted ultrabooks as every simple ultrabook on display had this $300 cash back promo loaded on the screen with a buy now and after cashback price… Including the s3 model I brought.

    • My mate got this treatment as well. Originally they said no but due to some interesting circumstances and blind luck, he only had to pay $788 and got the cashback. $488 for an ultrabook is ridiculously cheap.

    • Good will go and try tomorrow, is $300 cash back means CASH back into bank account?

I am thinking whether to get the S3 or the HP.

I think I will go for the HP with 6 cells battery and 128GB SSD.

      • Yep cash back is via cheque. I'd recommend the s3 it already had a 20gb solid state to run frequently used things like windows. The rest of the 300gb would be your other junk you won't use much ;) the Hp is a few hundred more and doesn't look as stylish either :) only bugger is the s3 has USB ports on the back but I guess I'll survive!

        • +1

I am a bit hesitate finally they may say yours is a discounted model and not included after you submit the form.

Ezza, you have checked included SSD and Windows installed on it? And how about the program folders?

And what is the actual battery life when you use it?

  • Absolutely!! What surprises me still is that stores and the terms and conditions indicate no to advertised prices with the combination of the cash back… Yet the display ultra books are all displaying it in store on the screens even the s3. Maybe the tactic is for Harvey Norman to avoid online sales and get people in store to up sell and try pull flexirent on customers (which they tried on me too)?

  • +1

Well I was smart about it and took a picture of the demo pc in the store displaying price before cash back and after in case they knock it back ;)

  • just be sure to check prices elsewhere. e.g. the Asus UX21E-KX004V is $1364 at harvey norman, cashback bringing it to $1064, but DSE has it for $999.

  • Picked up 2 $788 S3 ultrabooks st HN Aspley. The salesman and manager both said the cashback applies. I'll kick up a huge stink if it gets denied…

    • I hope all HN will do it, may be they are not very clear yet yesterday.

I think if they do it I will go to the Acer also because after reading the review the HP is not good either.

  • This is ridiculous. You advertise a price on the website ad bait people for $300 cashback only to be told it's $300 cash back off a completely different price.

    NEG!

    • Did you read the post on top of you? A few peoples bought the Acer S3 $788 today before cash back.

  • Asked the HN near me they confirmed the $788 Acer included in the $300 cashback because the cashback is from another place nothing to do with them.

But sadly the S3 sold out yesterday.

I have to go and find another HN.

  • Okay, did some ringing around and managed to get one held aside @ $788 (not before getting told by another store there was none left in the state) after some back and forwards over the phone with a staff member. First it was $999 and then after hanging up I got a surprise call back to say that after confirming with a manager they can do $788 with the $300 cashback. Going to pickup approx 4pm. I'll post up my receipt if it all works out.

    • As promised, this is the receipt for $788. Now just to claim the cashback. Here's the cashback form those those interested too! :/

Be aware this was the last boxed one that store had. The rep seemed to imply that the floor/display model could be sold though.

  • I think HV cash back is dodgy. Went to city store. Price for ultrabook is rrp which I can get cheaper than that even after cashback.

  • -2

    Guys, read the fine prints.

"Cashback of $300 via redemption is only available on the purchase of an eligible "Ultrabook" product from a Harvey Norman franchise during the promotional period."

Correct me if I am wrong, but by the sounds of it, it means you must use the $300 cash to buy eligible "ultrabook" products.
What's an "eligible Ultrabook product"? ANOTHER Ultrabook at full price? And you have to use the $300 DURING the promotional period. Since when would cash be worth $300 one day and $0 the next?

"Not in conjunction with Catalogue Lines or any other offer."

So expect to pay full price with whatever you get with that "cash".

Sounds more like a scam to me. Harvey Norman can go shove their "cashback" up themselves.

    • -1

NO they will mail you a cheque.

"is only available on the purchase of an eligible "Ultrabook" product from a Harvey Norman franchise during the promotional period."

This is talking about the ultrabook you need to buy.

      • -2

Thanks for confirming that. But as other people mentioned, the special deals offered by HN is still a little shaky.

Acer S3 base model, $788 after cashback. Another dealer online (refer to below link), $749 without any special offers. http://www.lmc.com.au/products/Notebooks_and_Laptops/Acer/57…

        • +1

$788 is before cash back I bought one today and they gave me a form to claim $300.

      • Maybe time to revoke your negative vote?

  • Thumbs down for Harvey Norman… this offer is msleading.
You cant tell from the website what catalog sale items are, and thus you cant get offer on ANY ultrabooks but just some

    • Why people didn't read the last few posts which people getting the Acer S3 $788 before $300 cashback?

  • Just purchased from Fountain Gate. There is a sign below with before and after cashback price and we were given a redemption form.

  • if u buy it and are offered the form=boom, contract, right there.

  • +2

Mehhh I'm over all the Harvey Norman haters.. The deal works simple! It's a bargain! Done and dusted!! ;)

  • I visited my local HN store today to see what this was all about, the usual bull crap, the sales guy told me they have $300 cashback on the ultrabooks. Upon checking the Acer S3 which I bought it for my sister a month ago for $700 or something around that mark, at HN this was marked at $1399 and you get $300 cashback on that, which I laughed and told the guy that I had bought the same thing for $700 and walked out.

    • Are you sure it was the i3 version? The i5 version is actually around that price as it has a full SSD (I think).

      • Yes, I checked the sticker on the machine itself to make sure I was reading the right one.

  • Damn, no Samsung Series 9. Ah well, good bargain anyway.

  • victoria- I tried Acer S3 788$ in Springvale store and they argued that's a Catloge price, It will not get any cash back.
but at Chadstone they say ok but they have only display piece

  • Key question to ones who have bought. So the receipt shows how much post cash back? Or mention cash back somewhere?

  • +1

ok quick question. can you price match at HN? say DSE or jb has it cheaper. when claim the cashback too?

    • I have tried but was told either one.

  • Hey Guys,
Thought you should know I just bought a Refurbished Asus UX31 at GraysOnline below for $999

    http://www.graysonline.com/retail/ux31e-ry009v-r/computers-a…

    Harvey Norman's $300 was a joke…
