So OW price will come to $75. Good Stuff

      • Didn't think of that. Good thinking.

  • Wish it was the Networked drives

    • Yeah I have the GoFlex Home and having that network option is good.
Doesnt get great reviews tho for some reason.

This is still a great price if you can find one.

See my tip below Dirtybird! :)

  • its 7200 rpm, anyone know if it has sata?

    • -4

      how fast can you spin?

    • +1

it is a SATA, if I recall, they have XT drive in it (SATA3, 7200rpm and more higher end drive in Seagate).
XT drive is better than Expansion with Green drive, or those WD/Hitachi with Green drive.

      • Are these removable (for internal use) then? Unlike some external ones which have the USB interface soldered to the drive?

        • my other 3TB GoFlex Desk drives are removable(internal drive in a enclosure).
not too sure about the 1TB but I would say there're the same.

  • i don't see how this is a great value for a 3.5" external

    • momentus XT hard drive inside, staticice the 1TB pricing on it.

    • Can you find any cheaper and widely available?

There is no way this drive has Momentus XT hybrid drive in it - if you disagree post evidence…

      • +1

sorry my bad, it is a Barracuda XT, but I think that is only for the 2TB or 3TB models. I have this one.

I can't find what is in the 1TB version but I suppose something similar with a large cache.

      • Momentus XT only came in 2.5" form and 750GB, so no need for proof.

If it was portable, USB powered, I'd jump on it. Not literally of course. :)

  • Why is the link for lasoo?

  • Good deal, with drives still a it overpriced since the Thailand floods this is a good deal if 1Tb suits you although if you can stretch the budget 3Tb externals are probably the sweet spot for $ per TB. Thanks for the bargain :)

    • there always people voice their own personal opinion, telling you not to buy this & price will come down very soon, but only if you know what really happening…

have a read on this, although its from Nov 2011
      http://allthingsd.com/20111123/seven-questions-for-seagate-c…

CEO of Seagate said the effects on Thailand floods will last till at least end of 2012 or even later 2013, and if you put yourself into his shoes & think hard, I believe he is correct, there's no point building more factories just to meet some bubble and then get stuck with excess capacity later.

so, short answer: just buy if you need it!

    Waiting for Portable 3.0

Here's a tip for those like myself with the Goflex Home NAS version. If you want a USB3.0 adapter it's worth ~$40, I wanted one anyway, so that makes the 1tb drive inside also ~$40…that will go nicely in my new HP microserver at that price! :D

  • Still $99 on their website, I wonder if they just haven't updated it yet, or if they are out of stock for "staffly" reasons.

    • Not sure its for online.

    • Now its online for $79 but only for Click & Collect.

  • I'm not sure how it's related to this product (like wether it uses the base or not), but I saw the GoFlex media player for about $85 at Officeworks yesterday.

Picked one up today, it wasn't marked on the shelf but did scan at $79.

    Will crack it open tonight.

    • Same, was $109 on the shelf, the DS dude reckoned the sale started tomorrow…until I pointed out that today was actually the 24th! :p

    • Easy to open? How's the performance? Thanks.

      • +1

Opening was easy after a few youtube clips - it's a clip release so you probably end up scuffing the edges a bit. The enclosure is basically a SATA->USB3 stand with a pretty case on it.

The drive I had in mine was a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS. Surprisingly the internal drive passes the Warranty validation on the Seagate site, in warranty until June 2014!

I will re-use the enclosure for other SATA drives whilst the 1TB goes in my microserver.
