Nervous first timer.

This just popped up as a suggestion for me after I bought the 6tb Red Plus drives. Seems cheaper than the historic deal of the $165 earlier in the month.
Also doesn't look like there is an order qty cap like there was on the Red Plus drives.

SMR - don't buy these for NAS use. Just don't.

    • F WD with their SMR shenanigans. Never again.

SMR, no good for NAS hence so cheap.

For anyone wondering why SMR drives are bad for NAS, read this article: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2020/04/caveat-emptor-smr-di…

Still don't understand with above article. Does smr ok for surveilance nvr? Prefer skyhawk or purple but they are hardly on sales.

      • Get the skyhawk so you won’t have any issues.

western digital did this to themselves.

It's ridiculous that WD still keep using SMR in their red lines

    • +1

At least it's easy to differentiate now. Red = SMR, Red Plus/Pro = CMR.

Still, marketing these for NAS use under any label is extremely poor.

  • Would this be good for a regular drive inside a pc for storage, and running games from it sometimes?
