I wouldn’t reject the delivery because if it goes AWOL what are you going to do when they charge you a equipment fee?

        • My thoughts also

  • Is it worth moving from AussieBB? Have Telstra moved their support back to Aus?

    • It can be quite frustrating dealing with Tel$tra support. Each support team is limited and to get the most out of the support teams, you need to remember that limitation and also not to take some of the BS excuses they can come up with. Aus staff are better (but the whole Telstra support silos structure is really dumb), overseas support staff, gosh, that's…

ABB support is far better, but I am not sure ABB's NBN is top notch though….

      • ABB is one of the better providers out there and a premium network however the use cgnat as default which can be an issue for some, their support is about the best out there

        • +1

Free to request to get out of CGNAT though which is a good option

    Miss my Canadian internet
    25month for 1000/1000 unlimited =(

    • So our NBN here is really NSN (National Sloooooow Network)? No 250/25 in my area, only 100/20 max.

    • Holy cow

  • On FTTP and Telstra won’t allow a secondary service to sign up with this deal (such as a JB hifi Telstra plan).

Also, our new plans are paid upfront by AutoPay covering you for the month ahead, similar to a subscription service like Netflix. If you also have other services, such as an internet service where you normally get a bill, you'll continue to receive a bill as you do today and it will have a different payment due date to your Upfront service. I understand this may be confusing and not preferred. You can easily track your upcoming payment dates in the My Telstra App in the 'Payments' tab but you are not required to do the upfront payment as we'll go and do the similar plan.

Update: You can sign up for a secondary service; it just can't be an Upfront Service

Is this stackable with Shopback cashback?
As a new customer to Telstra, can we sign up for telstra plus at same time and pocket 50k points?

    • +2

Probs not, as redeem time is 75 days and the plan would be cancelled before 60

      • what abt telstra plus points, can we sign up and pocket at same time?

        • +1

Yes, the 50k points wouldn't be invalidated by Shopback.

          • @yojabbajabba: in that case, just sign up without shopback then…

        • I wonder if you set the start date for the latest day available will it still track (04/06/2022) - potentially gaining the $42 shop back.
          Order service 5th May 2022
          SB tracking 7th May 2022.
          Start service 4th June 2022.
          + 61 days of service, then cancel = 3rd August 2022.
          7th May - 3rd August is 90 days
easily beyond the 75 day tracking wait time

          • +2

@yojabbajabba: worth try i reckon but long shot….on phone with Telstra is signing up now…too late for me…haaa

  • Anyone else having issues with the phone number section? Says they cant transfer my number, i dont even want a $#% phone service. I dont even know my phone number for my place as we dont have a landline

      • im trying to set it up for my parents house as well, they wont want a new number cause thats all set up with their accounts overseas.

        • oh not sure then

  • if my dodo internet expires on 22nd May, is it safe to request Telstra connection on 20th May?

    • Should be fine…

Because 20th May is on a Friday

Thank you! Had to expand that section to see it. Hope I get it after a few days post-activation.

  • What does 50,000 Telstra points get you?

    • +6

50,000 more points than you had before

      • think amazon alexa echo dot's were 25k on a telstra day deal

        • +1

Does the points disappear when you don't have any services?

          • +1

@MeesusEff: No, but "Points expire three years from the date you earned them."

(Which is a bit rough because it means you can be a loyal Telstra customer for years on end but you will never be able to purchase something "good".)

            • @coxymla: I'll be getting 100k from this as I'm doing 2 houses. Hopefully can get something reasonable with it lol for cost of $4

              • @MeesusEff: Is that allowed in the terms and conditions? Have you checked? It would be an interesting loophole especially for those with rental properties. I can see multiple 50k being given out.

Isn't only the first service valid as later services you would have an existing service?

I think it would be safer to have one person per account.

                • @brisdaz: Oh, didn't think about that. I did ask the guy about the points and he just said it'll come up later. But I'm not too fussed, just wanted to try the 250 and 100 for $4

          • @MeesusEff: When I asked, their chat agent said they will keep the points but you’re suspended and won’t be able to redeem or transfer. If you return within 12 month, the points should still be there

  • Does anyone know if 2 months are calculated as 60 days or two billing cycles? And does the date of connection affects anything? Don't want to connect for a few days in first billing cycle and and get less than 60 days.

    • +4

it's from connection date so month 1 starts when the service starts

  • Does Teslstra use CGNAT by default, and if so, can you opt out free of charge? I need an IP address that can be reached from outside, can be dynamic, no problem, just a real IP.

    • No, public ip it seems, last time I was able to use ddns with it.

Be careful. Telstra is the biggest rip-off company. Never ever again Telstra.

    That's a rip off $95/month after on a 50mbps plan

Thanks OP. Ordered for a future date activation.

    Currently on Origin 2mth free.

Done and cancelled my current Spintel membership for the end of this month. It sucks that you have to double check the co you are leaving for their specific terms. Nonetheless will churn away in 2 months, set the reminder in your calendars!

  • At what stage in the signup process do you choose a future date? I’m worried it might just go and activate my current NBN

    • +1

      towards the end

Thank you op, just signed up

I got "Our upfront plans aren’t available at the address. You can buy a similar plan at the same monthly cost, with the same data inclusions."

The guy in the chat tried to talk me into a post-paid plan that supposedly has all the same features, but halfway through the connection timed out and I quite frankly wasn't a happy customer at that point.

    • +1

See my comment above. Has something to do with having an existing Telstra postpaid acct associated with that address.

If you have an existing post-paid mobile account AND/OR a FTTP NBN connection you can connect via the “Add another service” button on the NBN plans page. Same benefits ($2/first 2 months, 50k Telstra+ points)

      • +1

I have no current Telstra service at the address. Can't see that button anywhere, and chat is rather not helpful, they referred me to the regular plans, with no Telstra+ bonus points and at most 1 month for $1. :-(

  • +2

Why is a credit check required on month to month basis? Lame.

Not sure I want to try. Already had a credit check on the A8 deal and I want to keep checks away so my score builds up (all those credit card deals on OzB tanked my score)

    • Yaa, it is silly. Do all of them do a credit check?

  • How do you guys claim the BINGE offer? I went to the telstra offers hub and it says "there were no offers associated with your telstra ID"

  • Telstra say you get connected within hours of you plugging in the modem after you receive it. Anyone know the process if you're not intending to use their modem. i.e. I'm with Aussie Broadband and am migrating to telstra under this deal… how do i get the migration to trigger without connecting their modem. How would they even know when I've connected their modem anyway?

    • I just went to the store and they said I have to use their modem with their nbn 🤔

      • They don't know what they are talking about

        • Unfortunately that is the case in my experience, had my own setup and no matter what I tried it wouldn’t go. Plugged in theirs and after a while it kicked in

          • @DemocracyManifest: Did you then switch back to your own set up?

          • +3

@DemocracyManifest: Yes, their chat agent told me I have to activate the account with the included modem (it’s actually just a router but they call it modem). You can switch back to your setup after the activation is done

      • thats gonna be pretty annoying if someone has a ton of smart devices to reconnect

    • +2

I ordered yesterday and got my modem/router today.

I had same question, so spoke to Telstra and got some information:
      - Once you receive the modem/router the order is updated at NBN (not Telstra) in say 24 hours
      - You may get an email/text from Telstra advising that your internet connection is active. You can call Telstra to know which UNI-D port is to be used
      - If you have your own router, it should still work and you should be able to get internet access, but unless you connect Telstra's modem/router Telstra wouldn't know when to activate your "order" (different than internet connection), it still remains "open". I was told that the Telstra modem/router sends back data that's needed by Telstra to activate your order. So better connect Telstra's modem/router first and once good, connect back your own router, and it should all be good
      - pack up Telstra's modem/router and keep it ready to return close to two months :) (unless you want to continue with Telstra)

      Hope the above helps.

Got an update my modern due to be delivered on Sunday (!) But I have preordered connection for 20th May. Going by what you've said if I don't want my service activated until 20/5 I shouldn't be plugging in Telstra modem until ready, right?

        • Yes, that’s my understanding as well after speaking to customer care, the order would remain open until the Telstra modem is connected. But anyway check with Telstra for a final confirmation.

          • @cosmos: Would we still get the 50k points if we activate after May 12th?

            • +1

              @pramki: I think so.
I spoke to the customer care and was told that we should still get the points if we signed up before 12-May, though the NBN activation maybe after 12-May. My NBN activation is set for 13-May, and then after few days the points should come in.

      • +1

Just updating for those that may find it useful:

My scheduled date for Telstra NBN activation was today (13-May). I have been with another provider (Origin) and today automatically switched over to Telstra. I still had my personal router connected to the NBN box. So everything just happened in the background. The UNI-D port remained the same as before, hence the auto switchover without me knowing. I haven't connected Telstra's router yet, hence Telstra won't update my order as activated. Once I connect Telstra router, my order should get finalised. After which I will connect back my personal router to the NBN box.

I will update here again, also when I see those 50k points in my account, hopefully in two weeks time.

      • My order was automatically activated on 13-May as expected.

        I see something strange:
        - with Telstra router I consistently get an average download speed of around 100 Mbps
        - with my personal router I consistently get an average download speed of around 260 Mbps

I’ll just use my personal router and Telstra router is packed for return in two months time

        • Did you have to plug in Telstra's router to regain internet, or it was switched over even with your own router?

Mine's due to switch next Friday (20/5), I'm currently with Dodo which requires PPPoE login so will need to change mode midnight Thursday. When I churned from ABB to Dodo I had to connect laptop directly to router to login to router page and key in Dodo login details.

          • +1

@Craze: The switchover happened automatically with my router, didn’t had to plug in Telstra’s.

My Origin NBN account was automatically canceled as well.

    • Just to further update that I got the bonus 50,000 points to my new Telstra account. Had to call up the customer care to get these points.

      • I tried multiple times on chat, 2x phone calls and have now opened a complaint as they won't award me the points (even though I was eligible for the offer). They started out by trying to tell me the offer was only for business customers then flat out said it was only for customers new to Telstra Plus (which isn't mentioned in the offer). I'll see where the complaint goes then go from there.

        • +1

It seems like a manual process where they apply the points, for me it was at least, not sure why the points don’t come in automatically.

And, I was never a Tesla customer before, so I was new to Telstra Plus. But you are right, I didn’t see that as a condition for the bonus points.

  • Why is Telstra internet so expensive compared to other service providers??
I understand Mobile plans being dearer as they might have more towers and better coverage and all.
But internet is same infra for all.. isnt it?

    • +1

telstra was the major telcoms provider in Australia, many just go with them regardless of price so they get away with charging more, also people bundle multiple services with telstra

    • +1

VOIP is included in Telstra whereas it's usually an optional extra with other RSPs.

    • -1

Boomers. My uncle was up until recently paying $100/month for 50GB per month on his home internet plan. They trust Telstra. They get stuck on old plans.

  • +1

Can I get the 2 months Binge offer if I have already used the Binge trial?

  • My last billing date with Origin is on a Sunday , can I get transferred over to Telstra on a Sunday?
It's all automated on FTTP fibre?

    • +1

yes but sometimes better to do day before in case of any issues

    • Just go for Friday

  • how hard is it to return modem to store?

    • yea I am curious about the process, too. It's not like you can just enter any store and drop it off right lol

  • Is anyone not able to join? I keep getting a "something went wrong" page each time at varying stages of the application process. Must've tried 15+ times already!

  • +2

$1 spent and should save $99/month for 2 months off Aussie BB + free Telstra points. Reminder set to cancel late June.

  • It only accepts Australian driving license or Australian passport as id - any chance I can use my Medicare card or foreign passport as I'd?

    • Try via Live Chat. I signed up via Live Chat aka Message Us and didn't have to provide ID, but maybe that's because i've already got a Telstra ID
