Blizzard Honoring GAME Payments for Diablo 3
This was posted 1 year 8 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal
Not sure if bargain or not, but this may be really handy to people who pre ordered with GAME.
Pretty much if you have already paid GAME $50, Blizzard will take $50 off the price of your digital purchase.
still a more expensive price all around, but if you have already paid a hefty deposit with GAME, this should save you cash.
You may find yourself with a free copy if you paid full RRP.
edit: Credit goes to ozbargain member Jobler for this one. inbox him a thankyou.
edit 2: To Clarify, the deal does not get you instantly get $50 off. the deal will give you credit for the amount you paid as your deposit. E.g. if you paid $10, you would only get $10 back, but if you paid $79, you would get $79 off the blizzard price.

+1 votejusttoreply on 15/05/2012 - 14:21 ¶I wonder if the Game administrators will decide to not ship any stock that they have on hand (if any?). Because the customer getting their product and them keeping the stock = money.
Still, this is an absolute GODSEND for those affected.

+1 votewow, just read it through here
http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/5/13/3018593/game-austra...GAME Australia texted customers today informing them that they will not be stocking Diablo III and anyone who pre-ordered the game will not receive a refund.
maverickjohn on 15/05/2012 - 14:46 ¶Would they atleast allow them to use the credit in store to buy something else, they have no right to take your money liquidation or not, thy still have assets in the stores.

You have the right to get back your money… after the level A creditors (such as banks) are paid their debts, and everyone else who comes after them who have a higher priority credit.
The reality is, there won't be anything left for 'low' level creditors such as those holding a Diablo III pre-order.
(just an opinion, not legal statement).
+5 votesmaverickjohn on 15/05/2012 - 14:52 ¶So you would abuse a genuine offer to help those who got shafted and abuse the trust of the company for selfish needs. Thats not how it works mate.

Yep, it was just a question as it seems like an opportunity for some to double dip.
I know a second copy of a game use to be worth heaps to me when I was a student and had to fork out twice for everything in order for my younger brother to get to game with me. Thank god we're both earning good money now and I can just pay for my own stuff!
+2 votesmaverickjohn on 15/05/2012 - 15:17 ¶I apologise then, i misinterpreted your comment for one of a different cause. Sorry buddy.

No worries mate. I'd probably be skeptical of such a question myself if someone else asked it… hopefully people will have some honesty and not try to double dip. The servers are overloaded as it is!
I'm just happy my CE from JB arrived in the PO Box today… pity my bro's copy was delayed but I've given him a starters ed code so he can at least get into the action (assuming B.net servers hold up).
+5 votesThe possibility of being found out and having both accounts banned… or a conscience.
I've never been a huge fan of Blizzard, but what they are doing here is phenomenal. To take advantage of it when they will already lose profit from their kindess (which they are under no obligation to provide) would only discourage them and companies like them from doing this in the future.

This is one of several reasons why I never preorder. Not only do you lose your money in the unlikely event the company busts (which happened here), but you generally end up paying more and cannot shop around and get the cheapest price.
There hasn't been a game that's 'sold out' in years justifying it, and the crappy bonuses they try to throw in nowadays are never really worth the extra cost either.
randomchecker on 15/05/2012 - 15:06 ¶Great deal…even if I can't have the game as I have no internet available at home..(just at work!)

-3 votesNot a good deal, substituting a physical copy for a worthless digital one and to top it off they are charging you the price difference (Why is digital more expensive in the first place).
And the SADDEST thing is Blizzard is probably one of the creditors, since they would have invoiced and sent out the D3 boxes weeks ago to distributors.
Don't let them double dip you.
Turd on 15/05/2012 - 16:16 Comment score below threshold (-2).
+3 votesSure, in the long run, they'll probably end up making more money thanks to the good will that this has generated. I don't think that's something we should be complaining about though — generating money by being generous rather than greedy is something that should be rewarded, not condemned.
+1 voteillusionarybreeze on 15/05/2012 - 21:57 ¶Really? I find it unlikely that more people will buy D3 because of any "goodwill" that is generated. They are a publisher, not a store.

Didn't think of it this way, but its a good point.
My only point is that if you are going to buy a copy regardless and you have paid $20 or more on a pre-order which many people would have, how are you going to get a cheaper copy?
I dont understand how Blizzard would be one of the creditors who will receive money, because they havent shipped the physical copies to game in the first place, thats why people can't get their copies.

There is an error in my post, Blizzard is not a creditor, my bad.
This is what happens, Blizzard ships the games to an Aussie distributor (middle man), the distributor pays Blizzard money for the goods received. GAME then orders the copies off of the distributor and promises to pay the invoice, but obviously can't because they are bankrupt. The distributor becomes the creditor with a loss in their balance sheet, Blizzard does not and aleady sits on money.
so the situation is this:
For example prices are ficticious here: Blizzard normally makes $20 out of the $30 it sells for the game, the ditributor then goes on to sell the game for $50 to GAME and pockets $20. GAME then sells the game for $80 and is suppose to pocket $30.
Now
GAME can't sell you it because they are dead. Blizzard comes in and knocks $50 off the $80 digital price tag as an 'offer'. You pay them $30 ($80-$50), therefore Blizzard has now made $50 (initial $20 + $30).
They have essentially down sold you a digital copy for the price of a phyiscal + more. When they would not have seen that revenue to begin with.
Yes you 'pay' less (is digital even the same product?), they also 'profit' more.

Are you really paying less? Your paying more in a way because you've got to pay their RRP (which your deposit just became part of). Then there's the whole issue of value of a digital copy (no resale value or tangible value). But yes I agree they have managed to move more units this way.
consolegamer on 17/05/2012 - 23:53 ¶Blizzard releases how many big title games a year? One, maybe two? They don't have a middle man, except for small orders. Game would probably have bought direct for a huge title like Diablo 3. Blizzard have already made a name for themselves, so they don't need distributors.
+2 votesSome say that posts such as these belong in the forums. Not being a regular to the forums, maybe you should be able to +/-ve vote forum posts so posts like these could get recognition and just become another option when you are logged in and what you want to see on your front page and any other option that is feasible on a site such as ozbargain, maybe restrict the forum posts to the last post so it won't appear if it isn't an active post and not appear at all after 30 days (or any other time period). Just some of my thoughts. Anyway, certainly this is not a bargain, but it definitely is something that should be +ve voted for.

It's true that this post belongs in the forums technically, but it is also true that it wouldn't be seen in the forums.
There must be a better way of handling this type of situation. The way I see it, it could be through either directing more attention to the forums, or integrating popular forum posts into the main page.
Seeing as I don't think the forums will ever get the kind of traffic the main page receives, perhaps like you've said, there should be a way to upvote this to the forums.

Can someone explain how someone would be able to get two copies from this? I certainly can't see it. Cause GAME sure as hell isn't going to honour the preorder or refund so basically that's useless. The only way I could see someone getting it twice would be to use the reciept to get a discount twice?? On two copies?

highdealer on 15/05/2012 - 18:47 ¶Good job blizzard but unless you pay more that $20 deposit at Game you better off buying a copy from dicksmith or BigW

The Land of Smeg on 15/05/2012 - 20:46 ¶Props to Blizzard,it is quite sad however that they will take a loss on this. Is stayed away from pre-orders and online orders with GAME (only on the spot transactions) for this very reason that their future has been uncertain for a couple of months and I was afraid this would happen. Unfortunately not everyone was aware of their troubles in the media and I hope that not too much was lost on other orders than D3.

Props to Blizzard for stepping up. At least it's some consolation for those who had their preorders cancelled.
