  • Price seems only to apply for the 30 days of the Starter Pack. Recharges are still $40/month for unlimited.

Assuming Optus Network, I'd be interested if anyone could use 10GB in 30 days.

    • I think the extra 5 GB (of the 10 GB) is 1-off, as it comes with the Starter Pack. Then, it's 5 GB

    • Not sure why somebody negged you because what you say is correct. It's a first month offer.

I had difficulty using even 5GB in 45 days of the Woolies offer (also Optus network). I check my mail and surf a fair bit on my smartphone and this only accounted for a few hundred MB. To use up the rest, I downloaded some large files. So the 10GB is a gimmick—-hardly anybody will use that much, unless they watch Youtube for hours on end, and Dodo knows this.

  • Even when it does go back to $40 its great value esp with 100 mins international calls!

  • Unsure…

"You have selected a $39.90 Unlimited Standard Calls and Text Starter Kit with a 30 day expiry. This is charged at $19.95.
This includes 5GB data (plus bonus 5GB on the first recharge ) and 100 minutes of international calls to 50 destinations. See www.dodo.com for destinations.
Your initial payment amount is $19.95 for your $19.95 Starter Kit."

    Ok, above comments are correct.

looks good.. except for "Tethering is not currently available for the iPhone" :(

    • Thats a deal breaker…

    • how do they know if your tethering though? thought it would look like its comming from the phone… any different for android phones?

      • tethering using iphones are different than android. apple fanboys wont get an idea how much apple trying to juice them.

        • Just need to learn the work arounds. With software there is always a loophole.

    • You could jailbreak and use PDANET.

      • You can just apply a simple carrier file update, no jailbreak required.

        • any link that show step by step process for this?

    • Apple = restrictions, once again.

Does this restriction does also apply to Android devices…? :-/

      • No problem tethering to Optus with Android.

        • try read the whole deal? and the fine print for this CURRENT deal, instead of talking about the OPTUS. this is only Optus reseller which they might restrict it for the price.

        • Mate, there is no technical bar to tethering for Android. They might say no tethering in the T&C but to enforce it requires quite a bit of sleuthing on network equipment so it doesn't happen^. Even the native Optus service doesn't block tethering. I just did it a couple of hours ago from my smartphone to check a VPN gateway which I cannot do from inside this work LAN.

I've had experience with Optus, and MVNO Amaysim, and reseller Woolies. I don't know if Dodo is a MVNO or a reseller, but it doesn't matter, it just isn't blocked.

As for the troubles with Apple, I sympathise but that's not a problem I have. I'm only talking about Android.

^ Tethering is simply the equivalent of your home router's NAT on a smartphone. To detect this kind of packet rewriting, you'd have to do examine the TTL of packets, and even that can be countered by the gateway. And really these days, they care less and less how you choose to use your quota.

        • er we were talking about no tethering on iphones? why did you talk about android? i know android doesnt restrict anything.

Because I was replying to IVI's question, to wit:

Does this restriction does also apply to Android devices…? :-/

          Can you see it now?

        • right

  • this is the $40/month with the first month at half price

  • OT: Tesltra pre-paid 365-day payment option ($60 payment lasts up to 365 days) is CHEAPER than Dodo's…?!?
    (Dodo's 365-day pre-paid option requires a: $100 payment.)

Say you have a "nice number" = useful for business, due to its cute or easy-to-dial digit-pattern.

You'd move it to Telstra's pre-paid and be paying $5 / month to keep it alive, ie,
if NO calls are made from it. (Some phones can be user-locked to preclude Non-000 Emerg calls.)

A cheap way to have INCOMING (only) service, eg, to a service company.

IF the phone is Next G, you might even get more calls when you out Bush in the Outback.

I have to give Telstra credit for this -ONE- "deal" in the huge Telstra "price-maze"… ;-)

    • Liveconnected have a $5 plan with 100 credit

  • -1

Pennytel - $35 a month unlimited with 5GB data is a better deal.
