Currently the Galaxy S3 is valued at $789Both the Vodafone and Virgin Mobile plans come in at $64 per month with $59 for the plan and an extra $5 per month in handset repayments.
Virgin Mobile Plan Analysis:
The $59 Fair Go Plan offers $700 of calls. This would give you 623 minutes of monthly calls (based on 3 minute calls) and 3GB of data per month (with the Bonus 2GB data promotion that Virgin is currently running).Total Cost is $1,536 and the phone is worth $789 which essentially makes it $31.25 per month for the plan. That’s pretty good for 3GB of data per month.
Other benefits include:
Unlimited SMS within Australia
Unlimited Virgin to Virgin calls (8-9% of the mobile population).
International calls and texts are charged at higher rates (e.g. international text messages are 45c each), but when you call or text it comes out of the included value.
Vodafone Plan Analysis:
The Vodafone $59 plan offers $750 of calls. This would give you 673 minutes of monthly calls (based on 3 minute calls) and 1.5GB of data per month.Total Cost is $1,536 and the phone is worth $789, this echoes the Virgin price of $31.25 per month for the plan once the value of the phone has been removed.
Other benefits include:
Unlimited SMS (text) within Australia and to International numbers
Unlimited calls to Vodafone / 3 Mobile (almost 30% of mobile phone market)
We’ll keep adding plans to our comparison pages as more information becomes available.
fr33loader on 31/05/2012 - 12:38 ¶thanks. i'm with virgin on a $59 a month with 2gb. my contract expires on september.
3g is mediocre. very slow most of the time (rarely H, 3g once in a while, E often, G most of the time) and unreponsive sometimes. i cant even consume half of my monthly data. calls are ok though.
for me i dont recommend getting their high data plans. waste of money. just my 2 cents, ymwv.

https://onlineshop.telstra.com.au/ shows that the S3 is available on the "S" plan ($59 cap) for a total of $72/month.
If you think this is bad, have a look at Galaxy Note prices - more expensive than the S3!

Agreed, think this is a better deal

fr33loader on 31/05/2012 - 12:33 ¶$82?! lol telstra's not even trying.
sorry op, thanks for the info… but no.

This is typical Telstra tactic, sell the phone for a stupid amount for the first few months, catch the early adopters, put them on a plan, then lower the price for the people who arent willing to spend any amount to get the latest tech, seen it happen so often with telstra…
not a bargain, but informative… better suited to the forums
The other thing that gets to me is even if telstra was the same price there plans offer less value than optu$ and vodafail so they are still charging more in the end! so they are hitting you with both ends of the stick!
if it werent for all the billing issues ive had with optu$ id seriously consider switching… and lets not get started on vodafail.
+1 voteHonestly I'm with Telstra because I see the value in them, but nothing special here. Since I am on a $40 pre paid cap, it would actually be cheaper for me to buy the phone outright, and no lock in!
Anyway the SGS3 will drop to the $600 mark very quickly, anything above that is early adopters tax.
