PlasticSpaceman on 02/06/2012 - 19:10 ¶Fair comment…. but sometimes there's the odd one that's ok. I've been using AirAV for a while on the iPad, accessing files from a Qnap, and it's fairly impressive with the support for various formats…

LOL - are you kidding? Having lots doesn't slow down the device, but anyway…
On the offchance that you are not kidding - to delete an App all you do is hold your finger on an App's icon until it starts wiggling, then tap the little X that appears on the icon. While they are wiggling you can also drag them around to reorder them, and if you drop one on top of another than you can create "folders" to organise them into Groups that you can name.
To exit the edit mode, tap the "home button" on the device.

+4 votesApps are stored in Flash Memory. It doesn't matter HOW many you install, it doesn't change the speed of the device.
If what you were saying was true, then a 64GB iDevice would run like a dog compared to an 8GB one of the same model. Which, of course, is absolute rubbish.
Your comment is the equivalent of saying "never install more than 20GB of programs on your computer, because installing lots of programs on the hard drive slows down then processor".
Furthermore, iDevices don't have true Multi-tasking, so you don't even lose CPU if you minimise them (switch away from them without closing). The only time that they use CPU is when you are using them.
Crownanchor on 03/06/2012 - 04:20 ¶It was a reccomendation from an IT professional that a large number of installed apps can slow a an embedded device down, and i am aware that apps are stored in flash.
I have seen a device running slow with the maximum number of apps installed and have compared with the same model with very minimal apps and the difference was certainly noticable. The device was a gen 1 iPod Touch.
There are many google results regarding a large number of apps slowing down a device, but there does not seem to be evidence that Installing apps are slowing down a device.
If you notice over time a computer does tend to slow down, this maybe due to disk fragmentation of disk, registry, librarys, etc. So more programs installed can affect performance.
+1 voteAgreed with everything you said based on what I studied, etc… but there is definitely no doubt that my iPhone 4 has become significantly slower over the 2 years I've owned it (data fragmentation?) even after closing all apps and restarting the device. I have 3gb free on a 32gb iPhone 4 but there doesn't appear to be any obvious reason why it's so laggy now to use.
+1 voteI worked out the difference between them, and have downloaded both AirAV and AceMusic…
AirAV is a simple UPnP/DLNA streaming audio and video player. It can play from local files, or from Media Servers that support UPnP and DLNA.
AcePlayer is the same thing as AirAv but ALSO supports Samba, FTP, HTTP and heaps of other streaming protocols.
AceMusic is the same (full) features as AcePlayer, but is audio-only.
So, AirAV is a cut down version of AcePlayer.
Note that they cannot share iTunes media natively.
+1 voteJust tried something else. Go to Settings > WiFi and then get the URL. Open it in your web browser (eg: http:\192.168.1.50:8080) and you can upload direct to the iDevice.
I tested with a MKV - worked OK but choppy as hell on a iPhone 4
I seem to be getting some audio/video sync problems with my test MKV, will test more soon. From the help webpage…
- It does not sync when play high resolution RMVB or MKV file, how to do?
Maybe you should use “skip frame” in the settings.
Also - if you want hardware decoding, then,…
- What file format does QuickTime support?
MP4, M4V, MOV.
- Why use QuickTime?
Because the QuickTime use hardware to decode the media, save power of the device, and support high solution video, like 720P or 1280P.
- How to select sync method?
On ipad2 or iphone 4S, use “skip loop filter” may be better.
On iphone4/ipad1, use “Drop frame” may be better.
When play high solution videos, use “skip frame” may be better.
Here's the help page - it does help to read it all http://ranysoft.wordpress.com/
san_narula on 03/06/2012 - 07:02 ¶Thanks for that. I was looking for something like that to play music off my NAS. Can anyone tell me how do I add my NAS in AceMusic. ES File Explorer on Android automatically shows it under LAN.

All the free apps I download as a result of them being posted up here turn out to be rubbish.
