Wahoo KICKR CORE Direct-Drive Smart Trainer $949.00 (Was $1299.00) Delivered @ PUSHYS

750

(Apologies, I don't know when this deal ends. Will update if I find out!)

An excellent indoor trainer at an excellent price. Wouldn't be surprised if the next version of the CORE is close to release following the flagship KICKR's recent update (and Zwift releasing their own cost-effective, competitive trainer) and thus the price drop, but you're still getting a superb machine that only the most demanding and serious cyclists would ask more of. Only real pitfall is the lack of a supplied cassette as far as I'm concerned, but man, I wish this was the price I paid for mine!

Great trainer, looks like Zwift Hub making others a bit more competitive.

    Price beat at 99bikes for addditional 5% - https://www.99bikes.com.au/wahoo-kickr-core-power-trainer

Pay with discounted ultimate him cards for further discount

    • I did this… they complained that it was below cost, but still matched it. Thanks for the tip, great price!

      • Nice, I always do pricebeat using the online, saves dealing with whingy staff.

    Definitely a great price!

I credit the Kickr Core + Zwift for the marked improvement in my climbing ability. I used to hate riding up any inclines (not many hills in my area to practice). Here's a video clip of me riding over the West Gate Bridge (VIC) during the Around the Bay charity ride last weekend (skip to 1:50 onwards for the 'good bit'): https://youtu.be/6QVoej_7wPo

Nice. Was that the 100km ride? What do you use to record your rides?

    • At 3:06 you came close to middling that gap, would have been nasty

    • Great job! I bet cruising down the other side at 40 felt good

    • What's the grade on the incline?

Plus about $250 a year for Zwift

    • Yeah, anyone tried paying with turkey cards?

I get the 20% apple gc when they are on sale but haven't tried using Turkey account

    • Check out My Whoosh. It's a competitor to Zwift and so far, free ;) I like their workout plans and programs but haven't used it extensively (time poor).

      Review by DC rainmaker.

      • I got a 404 error in that review link.

      • Blegh, that UI looks like someone took Zwift's UI and reskinned it to make it look even more horrendous.

    • Zwift is optional. You can always create your own workouts with Garmin or whatever you use.

        Please

      • Not sure why you got negged. Zwift is indeed an open option, albeit a very functional and fun option. $21.99 a month.

For pure training and number smashing, apps like TrainerRoad will give you a good scheduled workout. Free.

Or Grand Theft Bike (a mod for GTA where you can use your trainer)

      • +1

I'm going to try this. It looks hilarious. https://youtu.be/qcMoY7mI2mk?t=443

        • I'm equally excited about trying the GTA V mod as I am about receiving the KICKR core I just ordered.

FYI, GTA V available for $15.29 at CDKEYS ;-)

        • It's pretty fun. I used a Makey Makey to create buttons for shooting etc.

    • Don't get why everyone uses Zwift. Tried it and to kiddish for me. Much prefer Rouvy.

      • For the gaming element, exactly what you don't really enjoy I guess. Most others find it a fun feature.

Levelling up, buying virtual bikes and wheels, earning special kits for completing challenges and promos etc etc.

Plus the huge community, and plenty of events and group rides.

        • Motivational aspect of badges, completing routes, zwift academy challenges

          • @impoze: I'm never gonna get the PRL Full badge

  • I've bought one recently.

It's great for when you want to get some riding in or even a race when the weather/timing isn't ideal.
That being said second hand is where the real deals are, these trainers seem to be pretty durable.

    • Agreed, this seems pretty close to 2nd hand price and no warranty transfer on 2nd hand, plus it’s delivered.

      • +1

If you have a receipt then it will come with warranty even if you buy it second hand.

        Source: claimed warranty on mine.

        • Thank you!

  • What improvements would they do to the newer version anyway? Just curious as I recently purchased this. I don’t really climb anything more than 16% anyway and 11speed is fine for me.

    • Probably quieter, maybe slightly more accurate. Ultimately would mean not much to 99.99% of riders

I've got version 2 kickr and it's fine

Also maybe the new one has a hard wired cord

  • how do I know whether my bike is compatible with this trainer?

  • Is there any Smart Trainer for kids? Rear wheel size like 18"

  • +1

This is good, pair it with zwift and it will surely get you moving. Wife uses it with the wahoo normal workouts and netflix

  • +1

Does that mean you need to buy a seperate cassette in order to use this?

Do you need a wahoo bike computer for this? My bike computer is not wahoo.

    • +1

      No cassette included with core

Works with ant+n compatible with garmin etc

  • +1

I used to cycle 200-300km a week but don't have the time to get out for rides anymore. I had a fluid trainer and hated it mostly because I could never really get the resistance right and it felt like a torture device. Not being able to 'coast' sucked as well. Are these direct drive trainers any different? I'd love to get some pedal time in again

    • +3

You'll love it if you pair it with Zwift, I was exactly the same, did my fair share of fluid trainer hell training for events and hated it. Got a Cyclops H1 and tried using it with training apps like TrainerRoad and virtual route apps like Rouvy and just didn't get into it, so it sat for a while until I joined Zwift and did Zwift Academy a few years back, the thing that got me hooked was the group rides, so much fun riding with people from all over the world with great banter, made some friends, joined a racing team and now race regularly as well (captain of a ZRL team). Working from home now, it's so easy to jump on the trainer at lunch and get some k's in with some intensity if needed and then back at the desk within the hour. Weekends I still go long with a mate IRL because that's still the best part of cycling, and mid week I do IRL MTB training to keep the skills up, but the rest of the time it's Zwift. For background I primarily race XC mountain bike (club level and marathon events like Otway Odyssey), do a lot of road events (just did the Classic ATB) and the occasional crit but have a long forgotten history in long course triathlon where I learned to hate my JetBlack fluid trainer with a passion.

      • Can you share more about whats involved with ZRL, have to race regularly?

  • What a coincidence my friend was telling me about zwift last night, seems like a big investment because I'm pretty sure my current bike isn't compatible but looks pretty fun

Have been using my kickr core for 3.5 years now and it is still going strong. Trainer on weekdays, outside on weekends.
